Intake Manifold 1 Temperature - Abnormal Rate of Change

Fault Code: 783 Intake Manifold 1 Temperature - Calibration-dependent progressive power

PID(P), SID(S): Abnormal Rate of Change derate or engine shutdown.
SPN: 105 Power Generation: Calibration-dependent
FMI: 10 possible engine shutdown.
Lamp: Red

Circuit Description:
The intake manifold 1 temperature sensor monitors intake manifold air temperature and passes information to the ECM
through the engine harness.

Component Location:
The intake manifold 1 temperature sensor is located in the left bank front air intake manifold.

Shop Talk:
There are multiple ECMs for the engine models included in this manual. Each ECM has an individual source address that
displays when the INSITE electronic service tool is connected. When troubleshooting a fault code, use the source
address displayed in INSITE electronic service tool to determine which ECM and circuit is affected.
This feature provides protection for the valves and turbocharger when a rapid increase in intake manifold temperature
occurs along with a bank to bank exhaust gas temperature difference. Intake manifold temperature rapid rise monitors
the change in the intake manifold 1 temperature sensor over a period of time and then logs a fault and requests a derate
or shut down due to excessive temperature change. The bank to bank exhaust gas temperature difference acts as an
enabler for the intake manifold temperature rapid rise feature.
Possible causes of this fault include:
Restricted air flow through the charge-air cooler
LTA cooling circuit temperature too high
Malfunctioning valves
Undersized aftercooler
High turbocharger compressor outlet temperature.
