Timing Steps of the Lesson Resources

Introduction
10 mins The Lords prayer song.
The teacher will ask the students to join in singing the Lords prayer together. Clear whiteboard for brainstorm.
The teacher should put an emphasis on this part of the prayer as a focus for
this lesson.
o Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us.
The teacher will facilitate a brainstorm with the students about forgiveness.
o Eg. What is forgiveness?
o What happens when we forgive?
o How do we forgive people?

Strategies for Learning and Teaching


20 mins The Dramatised Bible
The teacher will read the story of The Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14) using
The Dramatised Bible.

Discuss with students how the tax collector prayed to God asking for forgiveness.

Divide the students into groups of three, adjust group numbers to suit attendance. Have the
students perform a liquid picture acting out the role of Jesus, the Pharisee and the Tax
Collector, in their performance they must recite the Tax Collectors Act of Contrition as a
group. (5 minutes to rehearse and 2 minutes for each group to perform)

Literacy Students will engage with singing, verbal discussion and a


written brainstorm. Students will also engage with a time of written
reflection.
Critical and Creative Thinking Children will use their critical and
creative thinking skills to transfer written and spoken knowledge into a
visual performance.
Ethical understanding -
Faith Children will be engaging with the Lords Prayer in the
introduction of the lesson. The students will also be engaging with the
parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector and its associated
meaning.
Hope Children will pose questions about the good in themselves and
others and discover ways in which they can seek to restore
relationships with others God.
Justice Following the steps of the Act of Contrition and dramatise
the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.
Fortitude Children will explore scenarios that engage with the idea
of forgiveness.
Ongoing learning and reflective practice The educators will be
able to reflect upon discussions had with students. The educator will
use a checklist to plan for further learning and depth of content.
Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships The educator is
providing the students with opportunities to widen their network of
secure relationships and develop their confidence. Educators also
providing children with emotional support.

Holistic approaches This lesson sees educators provide


opportunities for students to engage with their learning through various
domains. E.g. social and emotional, kinaesthetic etc.
Learning through play The children are able to freely express
themselves in a manner using drama and their bodies to express their
understanding of the concepts.
Assessment for learning The information gathered from any
informal and formal assessment will guide planning for the continuation
of concepts and depth of content for the future.

Children have a strong sense of identity Educators are


emotionally available and support childrens expression of their
thoughts and feelings. Educators also provide children with strategies
to make informed choices about their behaviours. The liquid picture will
also enable students to model empathy and care.
Children are connected and contribute to their world - The
students have the opportunity to develop an understanding of their
actions and responses and how they affect how others feel. The liquid
picture will also ensure students have the opportunity to participate
and contribute to group play and projects.
Children have a strong sense of wellbeing- This lesson promotes
childrens sense of belonging, connectedness and wellbeing. This
lesson also provides students with an opportunity to talk about their
emotions and responses to events.
5 mins Conclusion
Ask students for examples of how we can ask God for forgiveness. Whilst playing reflection Reflection journals, cushions, reflection
