Population Growth Birth Rates / death rates /migration


Birth Rate & Death rates are measured by average number of births and deaths per 1000 people.

1 Population Distribution Spread of people in an area
2 Population Density Number of people lives per unit area
3 Over Population An areas population is too large to be supported by
available resources.
4 Over Populated Urban Area When numbers of jobs are less than people who are
looking for it or if the existing infrastructure can not
support the population
5 Over Populated Rural Area When more people earn from limited recourses and the
area cannot take load of its over population due to less
crop production
6 Crude Birth Rate The number of births per 1000 per year without taking into
age, sex or any other factor.
7 Crude Death Rate The number of deaths per 1000 per year without taking
into age, sex or any other factor.
8 Birth Rate Number of children born per thousand per year.
9 Death Rate Number of people died per thousand per year.
10 Rate of Natural Increase The difference between the birth rate and death rate
(Birth rate-Death rate)
11 Life Expectancy Number of years a person is expected live on average
basis.
12 Dependency Ratio The ratio of adults (15-64 YEARS) to the combined number
of children and elders.
13 Push Factor The negative factors which influence the people to leave
one area and migrate towards other areas.
14 Pull Factor The attractive factors of an area, which attract the people
towards any specific area for various positive reasons.
15 Population Increase Rate of natural increase including net migration.
16 NET Migration The difference between the people who are coming and
leaving the country.
17 Migration Movement of people due to various reasons from one
place to another place.

towards other country. For example the migration of
Pakistans people towards UK.

reasons. Like Afghan migration towards Pakistan.

20 Urbanization The increase in the proportions of the country that lives in


its urban areas.

21 Nomadic The movement of people throughout the year with their


families and animals.

22 Semi-Nomadic Seasonal migrations like people in the mountains come


down in Winter and go back in summer also called

requirement e.g. Agriculture

32 Poverty Line The minimum income required sustaining oneself.

34 Squatter Settlement OR Unauthorized settlements consisting of houses and shops

population.

TRANSITION (DT) MODEL represent the transition from high birth and death rates to
low birth and death rates as a country develops from a pre-
industrial to an industrialized economic system.
