Introduction
Throughout 2016, as a contractor of the State Innovation
Model, Asian Media Access conducted community surveys
with four diverse community groups to gather their cultural
perspectives on the healthcare system in Minnesota. We
took a nontraditional approach to data collection by using
video and audio interviews, photo booth with whiteboard
statements, and a web-based postcard making platform to
create images relating to the questions.

portion of this project.
Story Circles
Our Story Circle Articles are composed of statements
captured during video and audio interviews with white paper
segments to support. We also created fact sheets which can
be used by the health care community to provide care which
is sensitive to the cultures they are serving. These Story
Circle Articles provide insight into the views and cultural
practices of Hmong, Hispanic, Somali, and Native American
communities in Minneapolis.

Asian Media Access organized no less than 5 sessions
where we were able to capture the statements of the diverse
communities of the Twin Cities. The statements were
structured to create the videos on the following page. The
intent is that you can gain some further insight into these
communities and their views of the healthcare system in
Minnesota.
