Literacy Description of Planned
Activity Activities
Rereading The student will reread, The
for Fluency Little Mouse, The Red Ripe
(5-10 min) Strawberry, and The Big
Hungry Bear by: Don and
Audrey Wood.
New 1. I will introduce the
Reading book, Time for Bed
(10-15 min) by: Petr Horacek.
Read new 2. We picture walk
book through the book.
3. We will discuss what the
book will be about.
4. I will read the book.
5. We will choral read.
6. The student will read
the book.
7. After reading the book,
we will look at a graphic
organizer, sequence of
events.
8. Together we will fill out
the graphic organizer.
Writing Writing Activity
Activity 1. As a writing activity, I
(10.15 in) start the rewrite of the
story as a model for the
student. Then the
student will jump in.
2. We will write our own
vision of the story in the
form of a booklet made
of paper.
3. As we write and finish
the writing activity we
will then reflect about
our final product of our
story. I will ask the
student things he
realized about the new

When my book buddy read the
book, he read smoothly. The words
that we had trouble with the week
before, he didnt have trouble with.
He read 35 words per minute.
When I introduced the book, my
book buddy responded very well.
He showed enthusiasm toward
reading the book. As we went
through the picture walk the
student could pick up on the
sequence of events. When the
student read the book, his fluency
was smooth.
After we read the book, we began
to fill out the graphic organizer.
Although the student didnt want
to write, and I asked him if he
could tell me the events and I
would fill out the organizer. My
book buddy was able to tell me the
sequence of events but he did
forget one or two events but with
assistance from the book he
figured it out.
My book buddy was very engaged
in the writing activity. The story
was about the sequence of events
that led up to going to bed. We did
our writing activity as getting up
and going to school. He would list
all the events he did when he gets
up and goes to school.
My book buddy used his personal
experiences to write the writing
activity. When we shared it was
interesting to see how he was
inspired by the mentor book.
As the student reflected, he noticed
that his story was a sequence of
events. It was things he did
everyday.

to fully engage in the activity, and
it was interesting to see how we
came up with a story together.
