A Fathers Love
In Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch shows his love and admiration for
his children in many ways. One such instance was after it snowed in Maycomb for the first time
in years, and Jem found a way to make a snowman, Atticus then shares his belief in his son
states, I didnt know how you were going to do it but from now on Ill never worry about
whatll become of you, son, youll always have an idea (89-90). This quote shows Atticus
worries for his childrens future, which shows he cares. As well it shows that he believes in his
childrens creativity, which is fundamental in his childrens development. Atticus is proud of his
children, and cares for their future, which gives him all the makings of a good Father. Later on
after finding out the what the children did to Mrs. Dubose's garden, and becoming angry, Scout
narrates this about her father, I hated him for that, but when you are in trouble you become
easily tired: soon I was hiding in his lap and his arms were around me (139). Even when angry
at her father Scout still finds him the greatest sort of comfort. This shows how Atticus must truly
be a wonderful father. As well it shows that Atticus does not hold grudges against his children,
and can love them even through their mistakes. Atticus is an exemplary father,and he shows this
