INTRODUCTION

Travelling to and from home and school is considered a struggle for students in UST-
AMV. Considering the reoccurring traffic on most major roads, travel time has been a prevalent
issue for all students. Travelling diminishes study time and requires an ample amount of effort.
According to Spence B. (2000), researches give many evidences that long bus rides have
negative effects on social behavior. Studies also show that long travelling time limits
opportunities because of the consumed time.
This study intends to execute under the ceteris paribus rule, or the other things equal
rule. This rule leaves us to consider only two variables: travel time and the general weighted
average. This study is to test whether the students travel time is inversely related to the students
performance (GWA) in academics.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The authors assess the impact of travel time to the GWA. Through the use of the
convenience sampling technique, eighty-six (86) respondents were given questionnaires to be
answered. There are two groups analyzed in this study, sample group A consists of students who
travel less than an hour while sample group B consists of students who travel for more than or
equal to an hour. The given data was evaluated using the z-test with a 0.1 level of significance.
Based on the table of random sampling, the total number of second year accountancy
students in UST is estimated to be 825. By choosing a desired reliability of 95%, and a
maximum error of 0.1, we are

STATISTICAL TREATMENT
Both groups underwent the same statistical treatment. There has been no study conducted
among the students of UST AMV-CoA on whether there is a significant difference between the
students travel time and the students GWA. Therefore, this hypothesis testing was done with a
two-tailed test, which is non-directional. The total sample size is eighty-six (86). Having a large
sample size of forty-three (43) per group, z-test formula has been used to quantify the results of
the data. This study has a 0.1 level of significance that all the more provides credibility and
minimal amount of error according to the table of sample sizes generated using Microsoft Excel
2007. The formula that has been used for computing the value of z for two independent samples
is:

SUMMARY OF RESULTS
The aim of this study seeks to affirm the hypothesis that assumes that the amount of
travel time is inversely related to grades. Based from the survey results and the statistical
treatment stated beforehand, the results have led to the following:
The survey data consisting of eighty-six (86) respondents denotes that each of the categories
enlisted have received exactly 50% of the total respondents. Each category has then received
forty-three (43) respondents of which 100% has given substantial information for the research.
Using these values, we have a computed z value of -0.37963739. The level of significance of 0.1
has led us to the critical values 1.645which affirms the null hypothesis, the amount of travel
time is inversely related to grades.

CONCLUSION
The study furthers to understand whether efficiency in the travel proximity from home to
UST would have greater significance in the students performance. The null hypothesis was
tested that travel time has no significant effect on students overall semestral academic
performance. Findings revealed that at 0.05 level of significance under z-test, there is no
significant difference between students GWA who travel less than one hour with those of the
students GWA who travel more than one hour. The student from the AMV-College of
Accountancy has been to be consistent with their commitment to excellence for a decade.
Regardless of external hindrances students have proven exemplary performance in the academe.
