Works in a small stockroom. Maintains receipts, records, and withdrawals.

Checks materials and


supplies and reports when stock is low. Receives and unpacks materials and supplies. Reports
damages and discrepancies for accounting, reimbursement and record-keeping purposes. Requires a
high school diploma or equivalent with 2-4 years experience. Familiar with standard concepts,
practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to
plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain
degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Job Description:
1) Receives, stores, and issues supplies and equipment and compiles records of supply
transactions aboard ship: Verifies that supplies received are listed on requisitions and
invoices.

2) Stores supplies and equipment in storerooms.

3) Issues supplies.

4) Inventories supplies and equipment at end of each voyage.

5) Compiles report of expenditures.

6) May be designated according to department worked in as Storekeeper, Deck; Storekeeper,


Engineering; Storekeeper, Steward.
Duties of store keeper: These can be briefly set out as follows :
1. To exercise general control over all activities in Stores Department
2. To ensure safe keeping both as to quality and quantity of materials.
3. To maintain proper records.
4. To initiate purchase requisitions for the replacement of stock of all regular stores
items whenever the stock level of any item of store approaches the minimum limit
fixed in respect thereof.
5. To initiate action for stoppage of further purchasing when the stock level
approaches the maximum limit.
6. To check and receive purchased materials forwarded by the receiving department
and to arrange for the storage in appropriate places.
7. To reserve a particular material for a specific job when so required.
8. To issue materials only in required quantities against authorised requisition
notes/material lists.
9. To check the book balances, with the actual physical stock at frequent intervals by
way of internal control over wrong issues, pilferage, etc.

Nature of Job:

Storekeepers are responsible in storing, releasing, compiles records of the supply in


construction, vessels, department stores or hotels.

Basic Tasks:

Store and release supplies or equipments


Compile the records of the supplies.
Checking the supplies from time to time
Record the number and the kinds of supplies.
Disseminate the supply in its designated areas.
Securing the status of each supply.
Checking possible damages or scratches

Education and Training Requirements:

At least college degree holder or under graduate.


Must have at least 2-3 years experience

Skills and Training Requirements:

Must have knowledge and experience in storekeeping


Knowledge in basic bookkeeping
Must be keen to details.
Must have strong built to carry supplies

Employment Opportunities:

Storekeepers can work in different industries, though there are more job vacancies in
constructions industry. Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates offers good compensation
package for Storekeepers, however they require applicants with bachelor degree or at
least college undergraduate.

Work Environment:

Storekeepers work in a warehouse or room that is filled with supplies and equipments
that they must secure on. Their job is not as tiring as other construction jobs because
they only deal with the storing and releasing of supplies.
Work Hours:

Storekeepers work for 8 hours a day.

Career Advancement:

Storekeepers can be promoted as Store Managers or Supply Manager in the long run of
hard work and commitment
