From the perspective of Rahim Khan. As insinuated throughout and more so near
the end of the novel, Rahim Khan plays a mediator sort of role in many of the
characters lives and especially in Amirs. Rahim Khan watches Amir as a child
struggling to connect emotionally with his strict father and thus tries to be
supportive and encouraging. He gives Amir the journal to write his short stories in
given his immense interest in reading and writing. Amirs stories are written in the
journal and Rahim Khan watches as Baba is not very impressed. Rahim Khan
observes that despite his talents, Amir waits for winter when he can fly kites with
Hassan and finally, for however long it lasts, gain Babas approval. Rahim Khan
reveals that he understood the sort of suffering that Amir endured that caused him
to act the way he did when he did not help Hassan in his trouble.
