Abstract. One of the important steps in the processing of biomaterials is sterilization. The efficiency of the
functionality of any sterilization system are found by the elimination of organisms and their ability to not
negatively alter the functional properties of biomedical devices. Dry and wet steam, radiation and
ethylene oxide are the main techniques used for the sterilization of biomaterials. The inappropriate
choice of sterilizing agent can affect the performance of the biomaterial to affect their physical, chemical
and / or biological compromising the desired results. This work used the technique of plasma to sterilize
chitosan membranes. The membranes were treated by oxygen plasma, methane and argon at different
times.
