Tuesday, Oct 17 Due: Read Lesson 17, Question 1
Wednesday, Oct 18 Due: Read the handout on incorporation and take margin
notes and answer Lesson 18, question 3. It is important for
you to understand the concept of incorporation -- it stems from
the 14th amendment and has been used to expand the rights of
people in the U.S.
Thursday, Oct 19 Due: Lesson 18, Questions 1-2. You will have foundational
knowledge about this lesson from the handout on incorporation.
The more you read about this idea, the better you will
understand the concept.
Friday, Oct 20 Due: Lesson 19, Questions 1-2. This involves another 14th
amendment clause: equal protection. You will also need to know
this concept quite well -- especially regarding levels of scrutiny
used by the courts in their interpretation of this constitutional
clause.
Monday, Oct 23 Due: Read Lesson 20, complete question 1 about voting rights
expansion in the U.S.
Tuesday, Oct 24 Due: Review for the Test
Wednesday, Oct 25 TEST

Lesson 15 Questions:
1. What is the process for amending the Constitution? Explain how Congress and the states
work together on this (know what involves a 2/3 vote and a 3/4 vote).
2. Read the Bill of Rights, Fundamental Changes, and Expansion of Suffrage sections found
on page 106. List three bullet points for each section which summarizes that section.
3. Compare Marshalls and Gibsons arguments for and against judicial review on pages 109-
110. Make a two-column chart with at least three points for each side.

Podcast Questions: Listen to the first 30 minutes
1. List the several details about the background of the case, Marbury v. Madison.
2. Explain how Justice Marshall expanded the power of the Supreme Court. You should have
many, many points in this section.

Lesson 17 Questions:
1. Read the lesson, and as you do, define the following terms: abolitionists, grandfather clause,
literacy test, poll tax, secession, Dred Scott v. Sanford, Missouri Compromise, and Kansas and
Nebraska Act.

Lesson 18 Questions:
1. Carefully read this lesson. This is an important and complex lesson.
2. Provide a summary of due process of law. Then, compare substantive due process with
procedural due process.
3. Define incorporation.

Lesson 19 Questions:
1. Carefully read this lesson. Explain the difference between equality of opportunity
and equality of condition.
2. Read pages 132-134. Explain the three levels of scrutiny and the groups of people protected
in each level.

Lesson 20 Questions:
1. Describe the following suffrage amendments: 15, 19, 24 and 26.
