Last January 26, 2017 Thursday, we had our Drug Symposium started at around
1:00 P.M in the afternoon and was held at the Mere Maria Hall, SPUD.The Drug
Symposium was leaded by two wonderful and charismatic speakers coming from
PDEA. One of them was a drug addict and actually both of them told and taught us a
lot of things about drugs, on how these affects us, how these affects our way of living
and family, how these affects our relationship with other people and on how these
things destroys us.According to them, Drugs are chemicals that affect a person in such
a way as to bring about physiological, emotional, or behavioral change and
Dangerous drugs are those that have high tendency for abuse and dependency, these
substances may be organic or synthetic, and pose harm to those who use them.Drugs
can be abused and exists when a person continually uses a drug other than its intended
purpose. This continued use can lead to drug dependence, a state of physical and
psychological dependence or both on a dangerous drug. And by drug abuse, drug
addiction is what likely to happen afterwards if we continue drug abuse.Drug
addiction is a complex, and often chronic, brain disease. It is characterized by
execessive drug craving, seeking, and use. Addiction is caused by brain changes
caused by constant drug use. Here in the Philippines, there are various abused drugs
but among the list , the most common are Shabu,Marijuana,Inhalants and Ecstasy.
Firstly is the Methamphetamine Hydrochloride (Shabu) and this contains

Methamphetamine hydrochloride is found to have harmful effects to the brain. It


changes how the brain functions.It is also known as poor mans cocaine. Other
names are Shabu,Tawas, Ubas, Siopao, Sha and Ice. Shabu is a white, odorless crystal
or crystalline powder with a bitter numbing taste.Abusers are known to take this drug
by ingestion inhalation (chasing the dragon), sniffing (snorting) or by injection.
Amphetamines are regularly absorbed orally and are associated with a rapid onset of
action, usually within one hour when taken orally. If taken intravenously or through
injection, they have an almost immediate effect.

Adverse Effects
Produces anxiety, tension, irritability, irrational behavior, talkativeness and
loss of self control
Results in loss of appetite and inability to sleep
Euphoria, elation
Can lead to acute psychotic reactions, violent and destructive behavior and
recklessness that may results in accidents
