Answer all questions.

Any data, if required may be suitably assumed and clearly indicated.
Use of relevant codes are permitted
Use M-20 grade concrete and Fe-415 steel.

1 (a) Explain clearly the concept of strip method analysis of slabs. (5 marks)
(b) Explain the yield line analysis and sketch the yield line pattern for a rectangular
slab with

(ii) (ii) Two sided simply supported and two sides fixed condition (5 marks)
(c) Design a reinforced rectangular grid floor of a conference room 12 m. x 16 m. with
the centre to centere spacing of ribs at 2 m. both ways. Assume the slab thickness is
approximately 1/20th of span, total load including self-weight is 6.5 kN/m 2.Use M-20
grade concrete and Fe-415 steel. Assume the grid floor is simply supported on all the four
sides. Also sketch the reinforcement details. (15 marks)

(b) Discuss the various methods for the analysis of grid floors. ( 5 marks)
(c) Design a continous beam of three spans supported on stone masonry piers of 300x
300mm. Clear span between supports is 8m. Thickness of RC slab is 120mm. Spacing of
continuous beams is 2.75m c/c. Self-weight of floor finish is 0.6 kN/m 2. Design the
reinforcement for critical sections and sketch the details of reinforcement. (15 marks)

surface of retained coal is level. Sketch the reinforcement of sidewalls and hopper bottom
of bunker. (20 marks)
OR
4 (a) Design and sketch the reinforcements of slab, beam and column of the Portal frame
of a hall 12 m. wide. The Portal frames are spaced at 3 m. interval with its base fixed.
Heightof frame from base to the centre of beam is 5 m. Take thickness of slab as 100 mm.
Live load on slab is 2 kN/m2.. (20 marks)
(b) Write down the salient points to be noted in the detailing of reinforcement for Portal
