Before use

This flash unit is not dust-proof, splash-proof or waterproof.
Do not place this flash unit in the following locations
Regardless of whether this flash unit is in use or in storage, do not place it in any of
the following locations. Doing so may lead to a malfunction.
Placing this flash unit in locations subject to direct sunlight such as on
dashboards or near a heater may cause this unit to deform or malfunction.
Locations with excessive vibration
Locations with strong electromagnetism
Locations with excessive sand
In locations such as the seashore and other sandy areas or where dust clouds
occur, protect the unit from sand and dust.
This may lead to a malfunction.

A compact flash that provides a flash output with a maximum guide number 42
(105 mm position, ISO 100 m).
Can be used with compatible lenses to enable ADI (Advanced Distance
Integration) flash metering, which is not affected by the reflection rate of the
background or subject.
Enables High-speed Sync.
Provides many functions such as bounce flash, manual flash, etc.
This flash unit supports flash coverage to a focal length of 16mm by using the
built-in wide panel when the flash is triggered.
Corrects the white balance automatically using the color temperature

Preparations
Inserting batteries
The HVL-F42AM may be powered by :
Four AA-size alkaline batteries*
Four AA-size rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries*
* Batteries are not supplied.
Always ensure that rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries are charged in
the specified charger unit.
1 Open the battery-chamber door as shown.
2 Insert the batteries in the battery chamber as in the

diagram.
3 Close the battery-chamber door.

Follow the reverse steps when opening the battery-chamber door.

The low-battery lamp on the display panel blinks when the batteries are low.

Attaching the flash unit to the camera
While the flash unit is turned off, push the mounting foot
firmly onto the camera until it stops.
The flash unit is locked in place automatically.
If the built-in flash in the camera is protruding, lower it before attaching the
flash unit.

Turning on the power
Set the POWER switch to ON.
Power of the flash unit turns it on.
When the power of the flash unit is turned on, the lamps on the display panel
light up.

Set the POWER switch to OFF.

Power save
When the camera or flash unit is not used for three minutes, power switches off and
display panel indicators go out automatically to save the batteries.
In wireless flash photography (page 36), control panel indicators disappear after
60 minutes.
You can change the time until power save, or disable power save. (page 44)

of the camera is set to OFF.*

Program auto flash (The basics)

1 Select the P mode on the camera.
2 Press the MODE button to turn on the Flash-ON lamp,

either [ AUTO] or [ ] on the display panel.

The Flash-ON lamp [ AUTO] lights up when the camera is set to
Autoflash. Only the Flash-ON lamp [ ] lights up when set to Full-flash.

3 When the flash unit is charged, press the shutter
button to take a photo.
The flash unit is charged when the TEST button on the control panel lights
up in amber and the indicator in the camera viewfinder are both on.
When the correct exposure has been obtained for the photo just taken, the
TEST button on the control panel blinks in green.
The photo will be under-exposed because of the lack of luminescence if taken

before charging is complete.
Press the shutter button after making sure that charging is complete when using
the flash unit with the self-timer.
If your camera has AUTO mode or Scene Selection mode, they are dealt with
here as program auto. Moreover, the flash mode selected (auto flash ( AUTO),
fill-flash ( ), and un-full-flash ( )) depends on your camera. For details, refer
to the operating instructions of your camera.

Recording modes
This section explains how to use the flash unit in each recording mode of the
camera.
Aperture priority flash photography

(A)
1 Select the A mode on the camera.
2 Press the MODE button to turn on the Flash-ON lamp
[ ].
Fill-flash is selected.
3 Set the aperture and focus the subject.

Reduce the aperture (i.e. increase the f-stop) to reduce the flash range, or
open the aperture (i.e. reduce the f-stop) to increase the flash range.
The shutter speed is automatically set.
4 Press the shutter button when charging is complete.

Applications
Zoom flash coverage

Auto zoom
This flash unit automatically switches optimum flash coverage (zoom flash
coverage) to cover a range of focal lengths from 24 mm to 105 mm when
photographing (auto zoom). Normally, you do not need to switch the flash
coverage manually.
The auto zoom is working when the Auto ZOOM lamp is lit up in green. The zoom
is not displayed on the display panel when the Auto ZOOM lamp is lit.
24 mm focal length 105 mm focal length
When a lens having a focal length of less than 24 mm is used with auto zoom,
ZOOM lamp [WIDE] blinks. Use of the built-in wide panel (page 24) is
recommended in this case to prevent darkening at the periphery of the image.
Auto zoom control optimized for

image sensor size
By using a Sony digital single lens reflex camera, other than the DSLR-A100, with
this flash unit, the flash unit will provide optimal flash coverage according to the
image sensor size (APS-C format/35 mm-format) of the camera.

Manual zoom
You can manually set the flash coverage regardless of the focal length of the lens in
use (manual zoom).
Press the ZOOM button to select the flash coverage to be

set.
The zoom coverage is changed in the following order.

Applications
If the flash coverage is set to less than the focal length of the lens in use, the
periphery of the screen darkens.
The flash coverage of the manual zoom on the display panel corresponds to the
angle of view of the equivalent 35mm-format focal length.

Built-in wide panel (16 mm zoom
angle)
Pulling out the built-in wide panel expands flash coverage to a focal length of 16
mm.
Pull out the wide panel.
The ZOOM lamp [WIDE] is lit up the display panel.

When storing the wide panel, insert it in completely.
Do not pull out the wide panel forcibly. This may damage the wide panel.
When photographing a flat subject from the front at a focal length of about 16
mm, the periphery of the screen may darken slightly because the focal distances
at the center and periphery of the screen are different.
When using a wide-angle lens with a focal length below 16 mm, the periphery of
the screen may darken.
The focal length corresponds to the equivalent 35mm-format focal length.
This flash unit does not support the angle of view of a 16 mm F2.8 Fisheye lens.

Flash coverage & focal length
The larger the focal length figure of lens on a camera, the further away a subject
can be photographed to take up the full screen; but the area that can be covered
becomes smaller. Conversely, with a smaller focal length figure, closer subjects
can be photographed with wider coverage. The flash coverage is the area that
the light from the flash at a set intensity or greater can cover evenly, expressed
as an angle. In this way, the flash coverage at which you can photograph is
determined by the focal length.
By having flash coverage determined in accordance with focal length, flash
coverage can be expressed as the figure for focal length.

Changing the power level
(LEVEL)
Auto flash
The flash unit adjusts the power level automatically when the LEVEL lamp
[AUTO] on the display panel is lit.
Manual flash
The power level for the flash unit can be adjusted.
Press the LEVEL button to select the power level to be set.

The power level is changed in the following order.
1/1 t 1/2 t 1/4 t 1/8 t 1/16 t 1/32 t AUTO t 1/1 t . . .
In manual flash photography, if the power level is set at 1/1 then the flash will go
off at full power. The power level range (e.g. 1/1 t 1/2) corresponds to the
aperture range (e.g. F4 t 5.6).
Change the custom setting when you change the power level for a mode other
than the M mode of the camera (page 44).
For details on the manual flash, see page 32.

Test-flash
You can try test flash before shooting. Check the light level using the test flash
when you use a flash meter, etc. in the manual flash (M) mode.
Press the TEST button when the TEST button lights up in

amber.
Applications
The light level of the test-flash depends on the light level which set in the
LEVEL setup.

The TEST button is turned on as follows according to the current state of the flash
unit.
Amber: Flash ready
Green: Proper exposure
Red: Overheating*
* Overheating is a function which flash suspends operation automatically, when the
temperature of this unit rises at the time of continuous flash use or use in a high
temperature environment.
The TEST button blinks in red at intervals of 1 second when overheating is

detected.
The flash operation is suspended until the temperature of the unit falls.
Stop use of the flash unit for 10 minutes to allow the temperature of the unit to
cool down.

Bounce flash
Using the flash unit with a wall directly behind the subject produces strong
shadows on the wall. By directing the flash unit at the ceiling you can illuminate the
subject with reflected light, reducing the intensity of the shadows and producing a
softer light on the screen.

Rotate the flash unit upwards or to the left and right while
pressing the bounce lock-release button.

Applications
The flash may be set to the following angles.
Upwards: 45, 60, 75, 90
Right: 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120, 150, 180
Left: 30, 45, 60, 75, 90
The bounce lock engages at the 0 position. When the flash unit is returned to
the original position, the lock-release button needs not to be pressed.
When the flash is rotated upwards or to the left and right, the High-speed sync
(page 34) is also cancelled.
Use a white ceiling or wall to reflect the flash. A colored surface may color the
light. High ceilings or glass are not recommended.

Adjusting bounce angle
Simultaneously using direct light and bounced light from the flash unit produces
uneven lighting. Determine the bounce angle with respect to the distance to the
reflective surface, the distance from the camera to the subject, the focal length of
the lens etc.

Rotating the flash by 90 to bounce light sideways is recommended. If an angle of
less than 90 is used, care should be taken to ensure that direct light from the flash
unit does not illuminate the subject.

AF illuminator
In low-light or when subject contrast is low, when the shutter button is pressed
partway down for Auto Focus, the red lamp on the front of the flash unit will light.
This is the AF illuminator used as an aid in Auto Focus.
Applications
The AF illuminator operates even when the Flash-OFF lamp [ ] is lit.
The camera AF illuminator does not operate while the flash AF illuminator is
operating.
The AF illuminator does not operate while Continuous AF is used in focusing
mode (when continually focusing on a moving subject).
The AF illuminator may not operate if the focal length of the lens is greater than
300 mm. The flash unit will not operate when removed from the camera.

Manual flash (M)
Normal TTL flash metering automatically adjusts the flash intensity to provide the
proper exposure for the subject. Manual flash provides a fixed flash intensity
irrespective of the brightness of the subject and the camera setting.
Manual flash can only be used when the camera is in the M mode. In other
modes, TTL measuring is automatically selected.
As manual flash is not affected by the reflectivity of the subject, it is convenient
for use with subjects with extremely high or low reflectivity.

Applications
The flash range check indication of the TEST button (blinks in green) does not
work after a photo is taken with the manual flash.
Using custom functions, manual flash may be selected without setting the
camera in the M mode (page 44).
TTL flash
Manual flash provides a fixed flash intensity irrespective of the brightness of
the subject and the camera setting. TTL* flash measures the light from the
subject that is reflected through the lens.
Some cameras enable P-TTL metering, which adds pre-flash to TTL metering,
and ADI metering, which adds distance data to the P-TTL metering.
This flash unit defines all P-TTL and ADI metering as TTL flash and the
LEVEL lamp [AUTO] on the display panel lights up.
*TTL = through the lens
ADI metering is possible in combination with a lens with a built-in distance
encoder. Before using the ADI metering function, check whether your lens
has a built-in distance encoder by referring to the specifications in the
operating instructions supplied with your lens.

High-speed sync (HSS)
High-speed sync Normal flash
High-speed sync eliminates the restrictions of flash sync speed and enables the
flash to be used through the entire shutter speed range of the camera. The increased
selectable aperture range allows flash photography with a wide aperture, leaving
the background out of focus and accentuating the front subject. Even when
photographing at a wide f-stop in the A mode or M mode of the camera, when the
background is very bright and the shot will normally be over-exposed, you can
adjust the exposure by using the high-speed shutter.
Press the HSS button.

The high-speed-sync lamp lights up.

This flash unit is set to high speed sync automatically when the shutter speed is
set faster than the sync speed. The sync speed differs depending on the camera
used. For further details of the sync speed, refer to the operating instructions of
your camera.
If you press HSS button again, high-speed sync is cancelled. When high-speed
sync is cancelled, the shutter speed cannot be set faster than the sync speed.
Taking photos in bright locations is recommended.
High-speed sync cannot be used with bounce flash.
When using a flash meter or color meter, high-speed sync cannot be used
because it interferes with the proper exposure.
Flash Sync Speed
Applications
Flash photography is generally associated with a maximum shutter speed
referred to as the flash sync speed. This restriction does not apply to cameras
designed for high-speed sync (HSS) photography (page 34), since they allow
flash photography at the maximum shutter speed of the camera.

Wireless flash mode (WL)
Photographs taken with the flash unit attached to the camera are flat as shown in
photo 1. In such cases, remove the flash unit from the camera and position it to
obtain a more three-dimensional effect as shown in photo 2.
When taking this type of photograph with a single lens reflex camera, the camera
and the flash unit are most commonly connected by a cable. This flash eliminates
the need for a cable to transmit signals to the flash unit by using the light of the
built-in flash itself as a signal. The correct exposure is determined automatically by
the camera.

Wireless Flash Range
The wireless flash uses a light signal from the built-in flash as a trigger to operate
the off-camera flash unit. Follow the points below when positioning the camera,
flash, and subject.
Photograph in dark locations indoors.
If you rotate the flashtube using the bounce-flash function (page 28) so that the
wireless control-signal receiver points toward the camera, it will be easier for the
flash to receive signals from the camera.

Notes on wireless flash
You cannot use a flash meter or color meter in wireless flash mode because the
cameras built-in pre-flash goes off.
The zoom position for the HVL-F42AM is automatically set to 24 mm. A zoom
position other than 24 mm is not recommended.
If another wireless flash is being used nearby, you can change the channel to
CH1 or CH2 in the custom settings to prevent interference (page 44).
When photographing with the wireless flash, the flash unit may in rare cases go
off by mistake due to ambient static electricity or electromagnetic noise.
When the flash is not in use, select the Flash-OFF lamp [ ] using the MODE
button.

Attaching and removing the mini-
stand
Use the supplied mini-stand when the flash unit is separate from the camera.
You can attach the flash unit to a tripod using the tripod socket holes in the mini-
stand.

Photography with wireless flash
1 Attach the flash unit to the camera and turn the power
of the flash unit and camera on.
2 Set the camera to wireless flash.

The setting method differs depending on the camera used. For details, refer
to the operating instructions of your camera.
When the camera is set to wireless, the flash unit is also set to wireless
automatically, then one of the wireless flash lamps, either [ WL CH1] or
[ WL CH2] on the display panel is lit.
[ WL CH1] is lit when channel 1 is selected in the wireless channel
setting of the flash unit, [ WL CH2] is lit when channel 2 is selected. For
details on changing the channel settings, see page 44.

Setting wireless flash by the flash
unit only
When the flash unit is attached to the camera and the wireless flash set up, the
channel information is transmitted to the camera. This means that if you continue to
use the same camera and flash combination without changing the wireless channel
then you can also set the flash unit and camera separately to wireless.

This function works when Sony digital single-lens reflex camera (other than
DSLR-A100) is used.
This function works with TTL flash mode using the clip-on connection with the
camera.

1 Press the HSS button for three seconds while the

POWER switch is set to ON.
The Flash-OFF lamp [ ], the Flash-ON lamp, [ AUTO] and the
Wireless flash lamp [ WL] blink at the same time.

Applications
When 1/2 is selected, manual flash photography may be used in all recording

Notes on use
While shooting
This flash unit generates strong light, so it should not be used directly in front of
the eyes.
Do not use the flash 20 times in a row or in quick succession in order to prevent
heating and degradation of the camera and flash unit. (when the power level is
1/32, 40 times in a row.)
Stop using the flash unit and cool it for 10 minutes or more, if the flash is
triggered up to the limit for the number of times in quick succession.
Attach the camera while the flash unit is turned off.
If you do not do so, you may cause a malfunction of the flash unit or the use of
an incorrect luminescence, and the powerful light may damage your eyes.
Batteries
The battery level displayed on the control panel may be lower than the actual
battery capacity, temperature, and storage conditions. The displayed battery
level is restored to the correct value after the flash has been used a few times.
Nickel-metal hydride batteries can lose power suddenly. If low-battery lamp
starts blinking or the flash can no longer be used while taking pictures, change or
recharge the batteries.
The flash frequency and number of flashes provided by new batteries may vary
from the values shown in the table, depending on the time elapsed since
manufacture of the batteries.
Remove the batteries only after turning the power off and waiting several
minutes, when changing the batteries. The batteries may be hot, depending on
the battery type. Remove them carefully.
Remove and store the batteries when you do not intend to use the camera for a
long time.

Temperature
The flash unit may be used over a temperature range of 0 C to 40 C.
Do not expose the flash unit to extremely high temperatures (e.g. in direct
sunlight inside a vehicle) or high humidity.
To prevent condensation forming on the flash, place it in a sealed plastic bag
when bringing it from a cold environment into a warm environment. Allow it to
reach room temperature before removing it from the bag.
Battery capacity decreases at colder temperatures. Keep your camera and spare
batteries in a warm inside pocket when shooting in cold weather. Low-battery
lamp may blink even when there is some power left in the batteries in cold
weather. Batteries will regain some of their capacity when warmed to normal
operating temperature.
This flash unit is not waterproof. Be careful not to bring it into contact with
water or sand when using it at the seashore, for example. Contact with water,
sand, dust, or salt may result in a malfunction.
Maintenance
Remove this unit from the camera. Clean the flash with a dry soft cloth. If the flash
has been in contact with sand, wiping will damage the surface, and it should
therefore be cleaned gently using a blower. In the event of stubborn stains, use a
cloth lightly dampened with a mild detergent solution, and then wipe the unit clean
with a dry soft cloth. Never use strong solvents, such as thinner or benzine, as these
damage the surface finish.

Insercin de las pilas

El HVL-F42AM puede funcionar con:

La lmpara de baja carga de las pilas del panel de visualizacin parpadea cuando la

utilizarse si el botn TEST parpadea en
mbar.
Si no se enciende ninguna lmpara cuando se ajusta el interruptor POWER en

ON, compruebe la orientacin de las pilas.
Si slo parpadea la lmpara de baja carga de las pilas, cambie las pilas.

panel de control desaparecen una vez transcurridos 60 minuto.

Zoom automtico
Esta unidad de flash cambia automticamente la cobertura ptima del flash
(cobertura del flash del zoom) para cubrir un rango de distancias focales de 24 mm
a 105 mm durante la toma de fotografas (zoom automtico). Normalmente no es
necesario cambiar la cobertura del zoom manualmente.
El zoom automtico funciona cuando la lmpara de ZOOM automtico se ilumina
en color verde. El zoom no se muestra en el panel de visualizacin cuando la
lmpara de ZOOM automtico est encendida.

focal de aproximadamente 16 mm es posible que la periferia de la pantalla se
oscurezca ligeramente debido a que las distancias focales del centro y de la
periferia de la pantalla sean diferentes.
Si utiliza un objetivo gran angular con una distancia focal inferior a los 16 mm
es posible que la periferia de la pantalla se oscurezca.
La distancia focal se corresponde con la distancia focal del formato de 35 mm
equivalente.
Esta unidad de flash no admite el ngulo de visin de un objetivo de ojo de pez
F2,8 de 16 mm

Cobertura del flash y distancia focal
Cuanto mayor sea la distancia focal del objetivo de una cmara, ms lejos
puede estar el sujeto que se fotografa; sin embargo, el rea que se puede cubrir
es ms pequea. Por el contrario, con una distancia focal menor, los sujetos ms
cercanos se pueden fotografiar con una cobertura ms amplia. La cobertura del
flash es el rea que puede cubrir uniformemente la luz del flash con una
intensidad definida o superior, expresada como un ngulo. De esta forma, la
cobertura del flash con la que puede tomar fotografas est determinada por la
distancia focal.
Al estar determinada la cobertura del flash de acuerdo con la distancia focal, la
cobertura del flash se puede expresar como una cifra para la distancia focal.

Cambio del nivel de potencia
(LEVEL)
Flash automtico
La unidad de flash ajusta automticamente el nivel de potencia cuando la lmpara
LEVEL [AUTO] del panel de visualizacin est iluminada.
Flash manual
El nivel de potencia de la unidad de flash se puede ajustar.
Aplicaciones
Pulse el botn LEVEL para seleccionar el nivel de
potencia que desea ajustar.
El nivel de potencia cambia en el siguiente orden.

En la fotografa con flash manual, si el nivel de potencia se ajusta en 1/1 el flash

se disparar con toda la potencia. El rango de nivel de potencia (p. ej. 1/1 t
1/2) se corresponde con el rango de abertura (p. ej. F4 t 5,6).
Cambie la configuracin personalizada cuando cambie el nivel de potencia para
un modo que no sea el modo M de la cmara (pgina 43).

Destello de prueba
Puede probar el flash antes de tomar fotografas. Compruebe el nivel de luz
mediante el destello de prueba cuando utilice un exposmetro, etc. en el modo de
flash manual (M).
Pulse el botn TEST cuando el botn TEST se ilumine de

color mbar.
El nivel de luz del destello de prueba depende del nivel de luz establecido en los
ajustes de LEVEL.
Botn TEST
El botn TEST se enciende de la manera que se indica a continuacin, dependiendo
del estado de la unidad de flash.
mbar: Flash listo
Verde: Exposicin correcta
Rojo: Sobrecalentamiento*
* El sobrecalentamiento es un estado en el que el flash deja de funcionar
automticamente, cuando la temperatura de la unidad aumenta debido a un uso
continuo o cuando se utiliza en un entorno de temperatura elevada.
El botn TEST destella en rojo a intervalos de 1 segundo cuando se detecta un

sobrecalentamiento.
El funcionamiento del flash queda suspendido hasta que la temperatura de la
unidad baja.
No utilice la unidad durante 10 minuto para permitir que la temperatura de la
unidad baje.

Flash de rebote
Aparecen sombras fuertes cuando se utiliza el flash con una pared directamente
detrs del sujeto. Si apunta el flash hacia el techo, podr iluminar el sujeto mediante
la luz reflejada y reducir la intensidad de las sombras para producir una luz ms
suave en la pantalla.

El bloqueo de rebote engrana en la posicin de 0. No es necesario pulsar el

botn de desbloqueo cuando el flash vuelve a la posicin original.
Si el flash se gira hacia arriba o hacia la derecha y la izquierda, la sincronizacin
de alta velocidad (pgina 33) tambin se cancela.
Utilice un techo o pared blancos para que se refleje el flash. Una superficie de
color puede cambiar el color de la luz reflejada. No se recomiendan techos altos
ni cristales.

Ajuste del ngulo de rebote
Si utiliza simultneamente una luz directa y de rebote de la unidad de flash, se
producir una iluminacin irregular. Determine el ngulo de rebote con respecto a
la distancia existente hasta la superficie reflectante, la distancia desde la cmara
hasta el sujeto, la distancia focal del objetivo, etc.

Iluminador de autofoco
Con poca luz o cuando el sujeto tiene poco contraste, al pulsar el botn del
obturador hasta la mitad para activar el autofoco, se enciende la luz roja de la parte
frontal de la unidad de flash. Es el iluminador de autofoco utilizado para ayudar al
autofoco.
El iluminador de autofoco funciona incluso cuando la lmpara de flash apagado

[ ] est iluminada.
El iluminador de autofoco de la cmara no funciona mientras est funcionando
el iluminador de autofoco del flash.
El iluminador de autofoco no funciona cuando se utiliza el autofoco continuo en
el modo de enfoque (cuando se enfoca continuamente sobre un sujeto en
movimiento).
Es posible que el iluminador de autofoco no funcione si la distancia focal del
objetivo es superior a 300 mm
La unidad de flash no funcionar si se extrae de la cmara.

Flash manual (M)
La medicin de flash TTL normal ajusta automticamente la intensidad del destello
para darle una exposicin correcta del sujeto. El flash manual le da una intensidad
de destello fija, independientemente del brillo del sujeto y del ajuste de la cmara.
El flash manual slo se puede usar en el modo M de la cmara. En otros modos,
la medicin TTL se selecciona automticamente.
El flash manual no se ve afectado por la reflexin del sujeto, por lo que conviene
utilizarlo con sujetos de gran o de muy baja reflexin.

Flash TTL
El flash manual le da una intensidad de destello fija, independientemente del
brillo del sujeto y del ajuste de la cmara. El flash TTL* mide la luz existente
desde el sujeto que se refleja a travs del objetivo.
Algunas cmaras activan la medicin P-TTL, que aade destellos preliminares
a la medicin TTL y la medicin ADI, que aade datos de distancia a la
medicin P-TTL.
Esta unidad de flash define todas las mediciones P-TTL y ADI como flash TTL
y se ilumina la lmpara LEVEL [AUTO] en el panel de visualizacin.
*TTL = a travs del objetivo
La medicin ADI es posible en combinacin con un objetivo que disponga
de un codificador de distancia incorporado. Antes de utilizar la funcin de
medicin ADI, consulte las especificaciones del manual de instrucciones
suministrado con el objetivo para comprobar si el objetivo dispone de
codificador de distancia incorporado.

Sincronizacin de alta velocidad (HSS)

Sincronizacin de alta velocidad Flash normal
La sincronizacin de alta velocidad elimina las restricciones de la velocidad de

sincronizacin del flash y permite que se utilice el flash en todo el rango de
velocidades del obturador de la cmara. El rango de abertura seleccionable aumenta
para permitir la toma de fotografas con flash con abertura panormica, lo cual deja
al fondo desenfocado y resalta el motivo principal. Aunque tome fotografas en los
modos A o M con un f-stop abierto, si el fondo es muy brillante y la fotografa
saldra en condiciones normales con sobreexposicin, podr ajustar la exposicin
mediante el obturador de alta velocidad.

Se iluminar la lmpara de sincronizacin de alta velocidad.

Esta unidad de flash se ajusta a la sincronizacin de alta velocidad
automticamente cuando la velocidad del obturador es mayor que la velocidad
de sincronizacin. La velocidad de sincronizacin difiere en funcin de la
cmara utilizada. Para obtener ms informacin acerca de la velocidad de
sincronizacin, consulte el manual de instrucciones de la cmara.
Si vuelve a pulsar el botn HSS se cancela la sincronizacin de alta velocidad.
Cuando se cancela la sincronizacin de alta velocidad, la velocidad del
obturador no puede ser superior a la velocidad de sincronizacin.
Se recomienda tomar fotografas en lugares iluminados.
La sincronizacin de alta velocidad no se puede utilizar con el flash de rebote.
Si utiliza un exposmetro o un colormetro, la sincronizacin de alta velocidad
no se puede utilizar porque interfiere con la correcta exposicin.
Velocidad de sincronizacin del flash

La toma de fotografas con flash se asocia normalmente con una velocidad de
obturacin mxima denominada velocidad de sincronizacin del flash. Esta
restriccin no se aplica a cmaras diseadas para tomar fotografas con
sincronizacin de alta velocidad (HSS) (pgina 33), ya que permiten la toma de
fotografas con flash con la velocidad de obturacin mxima de la cmara.

Modo de flash inalmbrico (WL)
Las fotografas tomadas con el flash instalado en la cmara se ven planas, como en
la fotografa 1. En estos casos, desmonte la unidad de flash de la cmara y
colquela en la posicin que produzca un efecto tridimensional ms fuerte, como
en la fotografa 2.
Cuando se hace este tipo de fotografa con una cmara rflex de un objetivo, la
cmara y la unidad de flash estn casi siempre conectadas por cable. Este flash
elimina la necesidad de un cable para transmitir las seales a la unidad de flash
utilizando la luz del flash incorporado como seal. La cmara determina
automticamente la exposicin correcta.

Alcance del flash inalmbrico
El flash inalmbrico utiliza como seal la luz del flash integrado para activar la
unidad de flash fuera de cmara. Respete los siguientes puntos a la hora de colocar
la cmara, el flash y el sujeto.
Fotografe en lugares interiores oscuros.
Si gira el tubo de flash utilizando la funcin de flash de rebote (pgina 27) para
que el receptor de seal de control inalmbrico apunte hacia la cmara, ser ms
fcil que el flash reciba la seal desde la cmara.

Cuando se ha instalado la unidad de flash en la cmara y se ha configurado el flash
inalmbrico, la informacin de canal se transmite a la cmara. Esto significa que si

inalmbrico tambin se cambia automticamente a Ninguno de 60 minuto.

Para cambiar el modo de fotografa que puede utilizar el
modo de flash manual (M)
Pulse el botn LEVEL para seleccionar el modo de fotografa que el
modo de flash manual puede utilizar.
El nivel de potencia cambia de 1/1 a 1/2 cada vez que se pulsa el botn LEVEL.
1/1: (corresponde solamente al modo M de la cmara)
1/2: (corresponde a todos los modos de la cmara)

Cuando se selecciona 1/2, se puede utilizar la fotografa de flash manual en

todos los modos de fotografa de la cmara. Es posible que no se obtenga la
exposicin correcta con la fotografa en modos diferentes del modo M de la
cmara; por lo tanto, recomendamos el modo M de la cmara.

El brillo del panel de visualizacin se puede ajustar en dos niveles.

Notas sobre el uso
Durante la toma de imgenes
Esta unidad de flash genera una fuerte luz y no debe utilizarse directamente
delante de los ojos.
No utilice el flash 20 veces seguidas o en una rpida sucesin para evitar el
calentamiento y la degradacin de la cmara y de la unidad de flash. (cuando el
nivel de potencia sea 1/32, 40 veces seguidas.)
Deje de utilizar la unidad de flash y enfrela durante 10 minuto o ms, si el flash
se dispara hasta el lmite del nmero de veces en una sucesin rpida.
Instale la cmara con la unidad de flash apagada.
De lo contrario, podra provocar un funcionamiento incorrecto de la unidad de
flash o el uso de una luminiscencia errnea, cuya potente luz podra daar los
ojos.
Pilas
El nivel de carga de la pila mostrado en el panel de control puede ser inferior a la
capacidad real de las pilas, la temperatura y las condiciones de almacenamiento.
El nivel de carga mostrado se restaura al valor correcto tras utilizar el flash unas
cuantas veces.
Las pilas de hidruro de nquel-metal pueden perder la carga repentinamente. Si
la lmpara de baja carga de las pilas comienza a parpadear o el flash no puede
utilizarse mientras toma imgenes, cambie las pilas o recrguelas.
La frecuencia del flash y el nmero de destellos que se pueden efectuar con pilas
nuevas puede variar con respecto a los valores mostrados en la tabla en funcin
del tiempo que haya transcurrido desde su fabricacin.
Retire las pilas slo tras desconectar la alimentacin y esperar varios minutos
cuando cargue las pilas. Las pilas pueden estar calientes, dependiendo del tipo
de pila. Retrelas con cuidado.
Retire y almacene las pilas cuando no piense utilizar la cmara durante un largo
perodo de tiempo.

Temperatura
La unidad de flash puede utilizarse en una gama de temperaturas de 0 C a
40 C
No exponga la unidad de flash a temperaturas extremadamente altas (por
ejemplo a los rayos directos del sol dentro de automviles) o a condiciones de
alta humedad.
Para evitar que se condense la humedad en el flash, colquelo en una bolsa
hermticamente sellada cuando lo traiga de un ambiente fro a uno caliente.
Espere a que alcance la temperatura ambiente antes de extraerlo de la bolsa.
La capacidad de la pila disminuye a bajas temperaturas. Guarde la cmara y
pilas de repuesto en un bolsillo cuando se tomen imgenes en clima fro. Es
posible que la lmpara parpadee aunque todava quede algo de carga en las pilas
en climas fros. Las pilas recuperarn parte de su capacidad al alcanzar su
temperatura de funcionamiento normal.
Esta unidad de flash no es a prueba de agua. Procure que no entre en contacto
con el agua o la arena si la utiliza, por ejemplo, cerca del mar. El contacto con
agua, arena, polvo o sal puede provocar averas.
Mantenimiento
Extraiga la unidad de la cmara. Limpie el flash con un pao suave y seco. Si el
flash ha estado en contacto con arena, la limpieza daar la superficie y debe
limpiarse suavemente con un soplador. Con las manchas difciles, utilice un pao
ligeramente humedecido con una solucin de detergente poco concentrado y, a
continuacin, limpie la unidad con un pao suave seco. Nunca utilice disolventes
fuertes como disolvente o bencina, ya que podra daarse el acabado de la
superficie.

O indicador de carga baixa no painel LCD fica intermitente se a carga das pilhas for
fraca.
A mudana das pilhas recomendada

quando o indicador luminoso de carga
baixa fica intermitente. O dispositivo de
flash pode ser ainda utilizado enquanto o
boto de TEST acende na cor amarelo
mbar.
Se nenhum indicador luminoso acender e o comutador de POWER estiver em

ON, verificar o sentido de colocao das pilhas.
Se apenas o indicador luminoso de carga baixa ficar intermitente, introduzir
pilhas novas.

Montagem e desmontagem do
dispositivo de flash
Montar o dispositivo de flash na
mquina fotogrfica

Enquanto a alimentao do dispositivo de flash estiver
desligada, faa deslizar com firmeza, at parar, a sapata
de montagem na sapata de ligao da mquina
fotogrfica.
O dispositivo de flash fica encaixado com travamento automtico no local
apropriado.
Se o flash incorporado da mquina estiver levantado, baixe-o antes de instalar o
dispositivo de flash externo.

Enquanto prime o boto de libertao da base de
montagem 1, retire o dispositivo de flash 2.

Poupana de energia
Se no utilizar a mquina fotogrfica ou o dispositivo de flash durante trs minutos,
a alimentao desliga-se bem como os indicadores do painel LCD desaparecem
automaticamente, para poupar a carga das pilhas.
No modo de fotografia com flash sem fios (pgina 35), os indicadores do painel
de controlo desaparecem passados 60 minutos.
Pode alterar a temporizao da poupana de energia ou desactivar a poupana de
energia. (pgina 43)
A alimentao do dispositivo de flash desligada automaticamente quando o
comutador de POWER da mquina fotogrfica est colocado em OFF.*

1 Seleccione o modo P na mquina fotogrfica.
2 Prima o boto MODE para ligar o indicador luminoso

Flash-ON, fazendo aparecer no painel LCD ou
[ AUTO] ou [ ].
O indicador luminoso de Flash-ON [ AUTO] acende quando a mquina

fotogrfica est programada para flash automtico (Auto flash). Somente
acende o indicador luminoso Flash-ON [ ] quando o modo Full-flash
(carga total) est activo.

3 Quando o dispositivo de flash est carregado, prima o
boto de obturao para tirar uma fotografia.
O dispositivo de flash est carregado quando o boto TEST acende, na cor
amarelo mbar, no painel de controlo e o indicador no visor ptico da
mquina tambm acende.
Princpios Bsicos
Quando a fotografia foi tirada com a exposio correcta, o boto TEST fica
intermitente na cor verde.
A fotografia ficar sub exposta se for tirada durante o intervalo de reposio de

carga do flash antes desta estar completa.
Quando utiliza ao dispositivo de flash com o temporizador, garanta que o
carregamento do flash est finalizado antes de premir o boto de obturao.
Se a mquina tem o modo AUTO ou o modo de Seleco de Cena, eles so
tratados aqui como programa automtico. Mais ainda, o modo de flash
seleccionado (auto flash ( AUTO), fill-flash (flash forado) ( ), e carga
parcial ( )) depende da mquina fotogrfica utilizada. Para obter pormenores,

Zoom automtico
Quando se fotografa (em zoom automtico), o dispositivo de flash optimiza
automaticamente a zona de cobertura do flash (rea de cobertura do zoom do flash)
para englobar o intervalo de distncias focais entre 24 mm e105 mm. Em geral, no
precisa de ajustar manualmente a zona de cobertura do flash.
O zoom automtico funciona quando o indicador luminoso de Auto ZOOM acende
na cor verde. O valor do zoom no apresentado no painel LCD quando o indicado

Quando uma objectiva tem uma distncia focal inferior a 24 mm e utilizada

com o zoom automtico, o indicador luminoso [WIDE] do ZOOM fica

recomendada neste caso para evitar a escurecimento das zonas perifricas da
imagem.

objectiva intermutvel (SLR) da Sony, excepo da DSLR-A100, o dispositivo de

imagem (formato APS-C/formato 35 mm) da mquina fotogrfica.

Quando fotografa de frente um motivo plano, com uma objectiva de distncia
focal de 16 mm, a periferia do ecr pode escurecer ligeiramente porque as
distncias focais no centro e na periferia so diferentes.
Quando utiliza objectivas grande angular com distncias focais inferiores a 16
mm, a periferia do ecr pode escurecer.
A distncia focal corresponde distncia focal equivalente em formato de 35
mm.
Este dispositivo de flash no comporta um ngulo de viso de uma objectiva
Olho de Peixe de 16 mm F2,8.

Zona de cobertura do flash & distncia focal
Quanto maior for a distncia focal de uma objectiva de uma mquina
fotogrfica, maior a distncia a que o motivo pode ser fotografado para cobrir
todo o ecr; mas a rea de cobertura diminui. De forma inversa, com uma
distncia focal pequena, os motivos prximos podem ser fotografados com uma
cobertura mais ampla. A zona de cobertura do flash, expressa em valor angular,
a rea de cobertura uniforme conseguida pela luz produzida pelo flash a um
determinado nvel mnimo de intensidade. Desta forma, a zona de cobertura do
flash qual se pode fotografar determinada pela distncia focal.
Ao ter a cobertura do flash determinada pela distncia focal, a zona de
cobertura do flash pode ser expressa em termos das unidades da distncia focal.

(LEVEL)
Flash automtico
O dispositivo de flash ajusta automaticamente o nvel de intensidade quando o
indicador luminoso LEVEL [AUTO] acende no painel LCD.

O nvel de intensidade do dispositivo de flash pode ser ajustado.

Em fotografia com flash no modo manual, se o nvel de intensidade definido

como 1/1 o flash dispara com a intensidade mxima. O nvel de intensidade (i.e.
1/1 t 1/2) corresponde ao intervalo de aberturas de diafragma (i.e. F4 t 5,6).
Altere o valor personalizado, quando muda o valor da intensidade para outro
modo, excepo do modo M da mquina fotogrfica (pgina 43).

Ensaio do flash
O flash pode ser ensaiado antes de se disparar. Verifique o nvel de intensidade de
luz utilizando o ensaio do flash quando se utiliza um fotmetro para medio da luz
do flash, etc. no modo manual (M) do flash.
Prima o boto TEST quando o boto TEST acende na cor

amarelo mbar.
O nvel de intensidade luminosa do ensaio depende do nvel de intensidade

luminosa definida atravs de LEVEL.

O boto de ensaio TEST activado, de acordo com o estado actual do dispositivo
de flash, da seguinte forma.
Amarelo mbar: O flash est pronto a disparar
Verde: Exposio correcta
Vermelho: Sobreaquecimento *
* A funo sobreaquecimento faz desligar automaticamente o equipamento, quando
a temperatura se eleva devido a um ciclo contnuo de disparos ou o equipamento
utilizado em ambientes muito quentes.
O boto TEST fica intermitente na cor vermelha, com uma frequncia de 1

segundo, quando o sobreaquecimento detectado.
O funcionamento do flash suspenso at que a temperatura do equipamento
diminua.
Pare a utilizao do dispositivo de flash durante 10 minutos de modo a permitir
que o equipamento arrefea.

Flash indirecto
A utilizao da unidade de flash apontada directamente para um motivo colocado
em frente a uma parede produz sombras fortes na mesma. Ao direccionar o
dispositivo de flash para o tecto pode iluminar o motivo com luz reflectida,
reduzindo a intensidade das sombras e criando uma luz mais suave na imagem.

A cabea do flash pode ser inclinada com os seguintes ngulos.

O travamento engata na posio de 0. Quando se faz regressar o dispositivo de

flash posio original, o boto de travamento no precisa de ser premido.
Quando o flash rodado para cima ou para a esquerda ou direita, a sincronizao
a Alta Velocidade (pgina 33) tambm cancelada.
Utilize um tecto branco ou uma parede para fazer a reflexo da luz do flash.
Uma superfcie colorida imprimir uma colorao luz. A reflexo em tectos
muito altos ou em superfcies de vidro no so recomendadas.

Ajustar o ngulo de inclinao
Em simultneo, a utilizao de luz directa combinada com luz indirecta do
dispositivo de flash produz uma iluminao pouco uniforme. O ngulo de reflexo
deve ser calculado em funo da distncia superfcie reflectora, da distncia da
mquina ao motivo, da distncia focal da objectiva, etc.

Luz AF (focagem automtica)
Em caso de fraca luminosidade ou quando o motivo pouco contrastado, quando o
boto de obturao premido a meio curso para realizar a focagem automtica, a
luz vermelha na parte frontal do dispositivo de flash acende-se. Isto o Luz AF
(focagem automtica) utilizado na focagem automtica.
O Luz AF (focagem automtica) funciona mesmo quando o indicador luminoso

Flash-OFF [ ] est aceso.
O Luz AF (focagem automtica) da mquina fotogrfica no funciona durante o
funcionamento do Luz AF (focagem automtica) do flash.
O Luz AF (focagem automtica) no funciona quando o modo de AF Contnuo
utilizado (quando se foca em contnuo um motivo em movimento).
O Luz AF (focagem automtica) pode no funcionar se a distncia for superior a
300 mm. A unidade de flash no funciona se o remover da mquina.

Flash Manual (M)
A medio TTL normal do flash ajusta automaticamente a intensidade do flash de
modo a proporcionar ao motivo a exposio adequada. O flash manual proporciona
uma intensidade de luz fixa independentemente da luminosidade do motivo e das
regulaes da mquina.
O flash manual s pode ser utilizado quando a mquina fotogrfica estiver no
modo M. Nos outros modos, a medio TTL feita automaticamente.
Como o flash manual no afectado pela reflexo do motivo deve ser utilizado
nos casos em que os motivos tm uma reflexo demasiadamente alta ou baixa.

O indicador de verificao da distncia de alcance do flash no boto TEST (fica

intermitente na cor verde) no funciona aps ter tirado uma fotografia no modo
manual do flash.
Se utilizar funes de personalizao, o modo manual do flash pode ser
seleccionado sem regular a mquina no modo M (pgina 43).
Flash TTL
O flash manual proporciona uma intensidade de luz fixa independentemente da
luminosidade do motivo e das regulaes da mquina. O flash TTL* mede a
luminosidade do motivo a qual captada atravs da objectiva.
Algumas mquinas fotogrficas permitem a medio P-TTL,a qual junta o pr-
flash medio TTL, e a medio ADI, a qual combina os dados da distncia
medio P-TTL.
Este dispositivo de flash congrega as medies P-TTL e ADI em flash TTL e o
indicador luminoso de LEVEL [AUTO] acende no painel LCD.
*TTL = atravs da objectiva
A medio ADI e possvel em conjunto com uma objectiva que tenha um
detector de distncia incorporado. Antes de utilizar a funo de medio
ADI, verifique se a sua objectiva tem um detector de distncia incorporado
consultando as especificaes, no manual de instrues fornecido com a
objectiva.

Sincronizao a Alta Velocidade
(HSS)

Sincronizao a Alta Velocidade Flash normal
A sincronizao a alta velocidade elimina as restries da velocidade de sincronizao do

flash e permite utilizar toda a gama de velocidades de obturao da mquina fotogrfica.
O aumento da gama de aberturas seleccionveis permite fazer fotografias com grande
abertura de diafragma, deixando o fundo desfocado e acentuando o motivo no primeiro
plano. Mesmo fotografando com o diafragma totalmente aberto no modo A ou no modo
M da mquina fotogrfica, quando o fundo muito luminoso e a fotografia ficar sobre
exposta, a velocidade de obturao pode ser ajustada para valores mais elevados.

O indicador luminoso de sincronizao a alta velocidade acende.

Este dispositivo de flash comuta automaticamente para sincronismo a alta
velocidade quando a velocidade de obturao superior ao valor da velocidade
de sincronizao. Dependendo da mquina fotogrfica utilizada assim varia a
velocidade de sincronizao. Para mais pormenores acerca da velocidade de
sincronizao, consultar o manual de instrues da mquina fotogrfica.
Se premir novamente o boto HSS, a sincronizao a alta velocidade
desligada. Quando a sincronizao a alta velocidade desligada, a velocidade de
obturao no pode ser superior velocidade de sincronizao.

A sincronizao a alta velocidade no pode ser utilizada com o flash indirecto.
Quando utilizar um fotmetro para medio da luz do flash, ou um medidor de
cor, a sincronizao a alta velocidade no pode ser utilizada porque interfere
com medio correcta da exposio.
Velocidade de Sincronizao do Flash

A fotografia com flash est sempre associada a uma velocidade mxima de
obturao que se denomina como velocidade de sincronizao do flash. Esta
restrio no se aplica a mquinas concebidas para fotografia com sincronismo
a alta velocidade (HSS) (pgina 33), dado que permitem a fotografia com flash
velocidade mais elevada da mquina.

Modo de flash sem fios (WL)
As fotografias tiradas com o dispositivo de flash montado na mquina aparecem
sem relevo como mostra a fotografia 1. Em tais casos, desmonte o dispositivo de
flash da mquina e posicione-o de forma a obter um efeito tridimensional como
mostra a fotografia 2.
Quando se tira este tipo de fotografia com uma mquina SLR, a mquina e o
dispositivo de flash esto normalmente ligados por um cabo. Este flash elimina a
necessidade do cabo para transmisso de sinais ao dispositivo de flash utilizando,
como sinal, a luz do prprio flash interno. A exposio correcta determinada
automaticamente pela mquina.

O flash sem fios utiliza um sinal de luz do flash interno como um disparador para
fazer funcionar o dispositivo de flash distncia. Siga os pontos indicados abaixo
no que diz respeito ao posicionamento da mquina, do flash e do motivo.
Fotografar em locais escuros em interiores.
Se rodar o elemento emissor do flash utilizando a funo de flash indirecto
(pgina 27) de modo a que o receptor do sinal de controlo sem fios fique
apontado para a mquina, mais fcil para o flash receber o sinal da mquina.

Notas sobre o flash sem fios
No pode utilizar um fotmetro para flash ou um medidor de cor no modo de
flash sem fios porque o pr-flash incorporado da mquina dispara.
A distncia focal do zoom para o modelo HVL-F42AM colocada
automaticamente em 24 mm. Qualquer outra distncia focal no recomendada.
Se outro flash sem fios for utilizado em local prximo, pode alterar o canal de
emisso para CH1 ou CH2 na personalizao da configurao para evitar
interferncias (pgina 43).
Quando se fotografa com flash sem fios, o dispositivo de flash pode disparar
acidentalmente devido a electricidade esttica ambiental ou rudo
electromagntico.

Para mudar o modo de gravao que pode usar o modo
manual (M) do flash
Prima o boto LEVEL para seleccionar o modo de gravao que utiliza
o modo manual do flash.
O nvel de intensidade de disparo mudado de 1/1 para 1/2 de cada vez que se
prime o boto LEVEL.
1/1: (corresponde somente ao modo M da mquina fotogrfica)
1/2: (corresponde a todos os modos da mquina fotogrfica)
Para obter mais pormenores sobre o modo de regulao da intensidade do flash,
consultar a pgina 48.
Quando se selecciona 1/2, fotografia de flash manual pode ser usada em todos
os modos de gravao da mquina. A exposio adequada em fotografia pode
no ser conseguida com os outros modos, excepo do modo M da mquina o
qual recomendamos que seja utilizado.

pode ser obtido, tal como na utilizao do flash automtico no modo de programa
(P) ou o flash no modo manual (M) etc., utilizando a seguinte tabela de nmeros

Notas sobre a utilizao
Enquanto fotografa
Este dispositivo de flash gera uma luz muito intensa, por isso, no deve ser
disparada directamente em frente e na proximidade dos olhos.
No disparar o flash 20 vezes consecutivas ou numa sucesso rpida de modo a
evitar sobreaquecimento e desgaste do dispositivo de flash e da mquina.
(quando o nvel de intensidade de 1/32, 40 vezes consecutivas).
Pare de utilizar o dispositivo de flash e deixe-o arrefecer durante 10 minutos, se
este for utilizado at ao limite de disparos em sequncia rpida.
Monte a mquina fotogrfica enquanto o dispositivo de flash estiver desligada.
Se no o fizer, pode causar uma avaria do dispositivo de flash ou a utilizao de
uma luminescncia incorrecta e a luz potente pode ferir os olhos.
Informao Adicional
Pilhas
O nvel de carga das pilhas que mostrado no painel de controlo pode ser
inferior carga real das pilhas devido temperatura e s condies de
armazenamento. O nvel de carga das pilhas mostrado pode recuperar o valor
correcto aps o flash ter sido utilizado algumas vezes.
As pilhas de Nquel-Hidreto metlico podem perder a carga subitamente. Se o
indicador luminoso de carga baixa ficar intermitente ou o flash j no pode ser
usado para tirar fotografias, mude ou recarregue as pilhas.
A frequncia de utilizao e o nmero de disparos que so conseguidos com
pilhas novas podem variar dos valores mostrados na tabela, dependendo do
tempo decorrido aps o fabrico das pilhas.
Quando muda as pilhas, retire as pilhas somente quando tiver a unidade
desligada e aps esperar alguns minutos. As pilhas podem estar quentes,
dependendo do tipo de acumulador. Retire-as com cuidado.
Retire-as e armazene-as quando no planeja utilizar a mquina fotogrfica por
um perodo longo.

Temperatura
O dispositivo de flash pode ser utilizada no intervalo de temperaturas entre 0 C
e 40 C.
No expor o dispositivo de flash a temperaturas extremamente altas (i.e. luz
directa do sol no interior de um veculo) ou a humidade alta.
Para evitar a formao de condensao no flash, coloque-o num saco plstico
selado, quando o transportar de uma ambiente frio para um ambiente quente.
Deixe que ele atinja a temperatura ambiente antes de o remover do saco plstico.
A capacidade das pilhas reduz-se com a diminuio da temperatura. Manter a
mquina e as pilhas de recurso num bolso interior quente quando fotografar com
tempo frio. Em tempo frio, o indicador luminoso de carga baixa pode ficar
intermitente mesmo quando ainda existe alguma carga residual. As pilhas
ganham novamente alguma carga quando aquecidas at temperatura normal de
funcionamento.
Este dispositivo de flash no prova de gua. Tenha cuidado em no a colocar
em contacto com a gua ou areia, quando a utilizar, por exemplo, em zonas de
praia. O contacto com gua, areia, poeira, ou sal podem provocar falhas no seu
funcionamento.
Manuteno
Remova o dispositivo de flash da mquina fotogrfica. Limpe-o com um pano
macio e seco. Se o flash tiver estado em contacto com areia, se o limpar com um
pano pode danificar a superfcie e por isso utilize um soprador. Se no conseguir
retirar manchas difceis, esfregue-o com um pano ligeiramente humedecido com
uma soluo detergente neutra e depois limpe o flash com um macio e seco. Nunca
utilize solventes fortes, tais como diluente ou benzina, pois podem danificar o
acabamento da superfcie.

Hghastighetssynkronisering Normal blixt
Hghastighetssynkronisering eliminerar de begrnsningar som finns fr

blixtsynkroniseringstiden och gr att blixten kan anvndas fr kamerans alla
slutartider. Det utkade intervallet fr blndarppningen ger mjlighet till
blixtfotografering med stor blndarppning, s att bakgrunden kommer ur fokus
och huvudmotivet framhvs. ven vid fotografering med ett hgt F-tal i
kameralget A eller M, med mycket ljus bakgrund som i normalfallet skulle ge ett
verexponerat foto, kan du justera exponeringen genom att anvnda
hghastighetsslutaren.

Blixtsynkroniseringstid
Blixtfotografering r i allmnhet frknippad med en minsta slutartid som kallas
blixtsynkroniseringstiden. Den hr begrnsningen gller inte kameror som
tillverkats fr fotografering med hghastighetssynkronisering (HSS) (sid. 33),
eftersom de tillter blixtfotografering med kamerans kortaste slutartider.

Fotografier som tas med blixtaggregatet monterat p kameran blir ofta platta, som i
foto 1. I sdana fall kan du ta loss blixtaggregatet frn kameran och placera det s
att bilden blir mer tredimensionell, som i foto 2.
Nr du tar den hr typen av foton med en spegelreflexkamera r kamera och
blixtaggregatet oftast anslutna till varandra via en kabel. Den hr blixten eliminerar
behovet av kablar fr signalverfring genom att anvnda ljuset frn den inbyggda

Anvnd inte blixten 20 gnger i strck eller i snabb fljd fr att undvika
verhettning och slitage p kamera och blixtaggregat. (Nr blixtnivn r 1/32,
40 gnger i strck.)
Lt blixtaggregatet vila minst 10 minuter om du har anvnt den maximalt antal
gnger i snabb fljd.

Gr du inte det, kan blixtaggregatets funktion stras eller ett felaktigt ljus
anvndas, och det kraftiga ljuset kan skada gonen.

Batterier
Batterinivn som visas p informationspanelen kan vara lgre n verklig
batterikapacitet beroende p temperatur och frvaringsfrhllanden. Den

Nickelmetallhydridbatterier kan pltsligt frlora sin laddning. Om lampan fr
svagt batteri brjar blinka eller om blixten inte lngre kan anvndas nr du tar
bilder r det dags att byta ut eller ladda upp batterierna.
Det r mjligt att blixtfrekvensen och antalet blixtar som ett nytt batteri kan ge
avviker frn de vrden som visas i tabellen, beroende p hur lng tid som gtt
sedan batterierna tillverkades.
Nr du ska byta batterier ska du ta ur dem frst efter att ha stngt av blixten och
sedan vntat ngra minuter. Beroende p batterityp kan batterierna vara varma.
Var frsiktig nr du tar ur dem.
Ta ur och frvara batterierna om du inte har fr avsikt att anvnda kameran
under en lngre tid.

Temperatur
Blixtaggregatet kan anvndas i temperaturer mellan 0C och 40C.
Utstt inte blixtaggregatet fr extremt hga temperaturer (t.ex. i direkt solljus i
ett fordon) eller hg luftfuktighet.

plastpse nr du flyttar den frn en kall till en varm omgivning. Lt blixten

normal driftstemperatur.
Det hr blixtaggregatet r inte vattenttt. Lt inte blixten komma i kontakt med
vatten eller sand om du anvnder den p en strand eller liknande. Kontakt med
vatten, sand, damm eller salt kan leda till funktionsfel.
Underhll
Ta bort blixten frn kameran. Rengr blixten med en mjuk, torr duk. Om blixten
har varit i kontakt med sand r det mjligt att dess yta skadas om du torkar av den,
drfr br du rengra den frsiktigt med ett blsverktyg. Om vissa flckar r svra
att f bort kan du anvnda en duk ltt fuktad med ett milt rengringsmedel, och
sedan torka rent med en torr, mjuk duk. Anvnd inte starka lsningsmedel, som
t.ex. thinner eller bensin, eftersom de kan skada ytbehandlingen.
