SPECIFICATION OF COMPONENTS

1.0 PARTICULAR SPECIFICATION OF COMPONENTS

1.1 GENERAL

1.1.1 This Specification covers the general requirements and basic features of various
switchgear and components used in the panel boards. Wherever applicable, the
Panel builder shall select the switchgear and components for panel boards in full
compliance to this specification, the specified international standards & the local
authority regulations.

1.2 MANUFACTURER: PRE-QUALIFICATIONS

1.2.1 The Original manufacturer shall have a quality management system conforming
to ISO-9001 and shall be certified by an approved certification body.

1.2.2 Switchgear and components for panel boards shall comply in all respects with
the applicable IEC / BS standards. All switchgear and components for panel
boards shall be tested for their compliance to international standards at reputed
and approved testing laboratory and certified by a competent authority.

1.2.3 All switch gear and components shall be from a reputed internationally
recognized manufacturer of European / U.S origin and approved by the
consultant. Switchgear and components for panel boards from Far East /
Japanese / East European origin will not be accepted or approved. The country
of origin shall be print marked on the switchgear and components of panel
board. Wherever required / applicable, certificates for country of origin attested
by the respective embassies or consulate shall be submitted for consultant
review.

1.2.4 The Manufacturer shall have at least 35years of experience in design,


development and manufacturing of the switchgear & components for panel
boards and the enclosure systems for switchgear assembly.

1.2.5 The enclosure system and switch gear & components for panel boards shall be
from one manufacturer or from the group companies of the original
manufacturer. The enclosure system for the L.V panels / Main distribution boards
/ Motor Control Centers and the circuit breakers used must be from one
manufacturer only. Different manufacturers for enclosure system and circuit
breakers will not be accepted or approved.

1.2.6 Switchgear and components for panel boards shall be print marked or provided
with permanent labels at least to indicate the manufacturer name, compliance
with standards, basic & important technical characteristics and model numbers.
All switchgear and components for panel boards shall be with an identification
number for manufacturing traceability.

1.2.7 The Manufacturer shall test and guarantee all the switchgear and components
for panel boards for their compliance to the standards, quality and performance.

1.2.8 Certificate of conformity shall be provided for all switchgear and components.

1.2.9 The Manufacturer shall provide comprehensive printed catalogues for all
switchgear and components of panel boards. The catalogues shall clearly depict
all the functions, overview of solutions, general & technical characteristics, detail
of various options, descriptions, installation recommendations, dimensions &
volumes, connection arrangements, electrical diagrams, catalogue numbers,
additional characteristics (tripping curves, etc. - where applicable).

1.2.10 The Manufacturer shall provide comprehensive printed installation, operation


and maintenance manual for all major switchgear and components of panel
boards.

1.2.11 The Manufacturer shall confirm for all major products that any future changes to
the products will be designed to ensure continuity with the installed (current)
ranges, so as to simplify the installation upgrades.

1.2.12 The Manufacturer shall fully take into account environmental requirements,
starting right from the design stage of products through to the end of their service
life:
- The materials used for switchgear and control gear shall not be dangerous for
the environment;
- The production facilities shall be non-polluting in compliance with the ISO
14001 standard;
- The materials used shall be marked to facilitate sorting for recycling at the
end of product service life.

1.3 APPLICABLE STANDARDS

1.3.1 Unless specified otherwise, all panel board components shall conform in design,
material, construction and performance to the latest editions of the International
recommendations (IEC standards) and its corresponding British / European
standards (BSEN standards) and in particular to the following publications :

In addition to the above listed standards, the local authority regulations shall also
be adhered to.

1.4 SITE CONDITIONS

1.4.1 For general climatic conditions, refer and comply the specified project site
conditions. All panel board components shall comply and perform satisfactorily at
the below listed special design conditions as minimum:

Ambient temperature : 50C


Relative humidity : 95% (at 55C)

1.5 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

1.5.1 All panel board components shall be rated on the basis of voltage, current,
frequency and the symmetrical breaking capacity at the installation.

1.5.2 The electrical system for all components shall be 415 / 380V, 50Hz 3phase and
neutral, 4-wire solidly earthed.

1.5.3 All panel board components shall be capable of continuous operation at their full
current and voltage ratings and without detriment or malfunction at system
continuous deviation of up to and including the following percentages of the
normal values.

- Voltages 10%
- Frequency 5%

1.6 SWITCHGEAR & COMPONENTS FOR PANEL BOARD

1.6.1 Air Circuit Breaker (ACB)

1.6.1.1 Air circuit breakers (ACB) as per the current ratings, no. of poles and breaking
capacity as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided. The
ACB shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -10C to
+60C ambient and calibrated at least at 40C ambient. Wherever required and
applicable, the ACB shall be suitably de-rated as per manufacturer
recommendations.

1.6.1.2 Air circuit breaker (ACB) shall comply with the applicable IEC standards. The
ACB shall have a rated operational voltage of 690V AC, 50Hz and rated
insulation voltage of 1000V AC, 50Hz.The ACB shall be suitable for isolation as
defined by IEC standards.

1.6.1.3 ACB shall be of encased type and compact design. The ACB shall be available
in 3pole and 4pole versions for all ratings from 400A to 6300A. The ACB shall be
available in fixed and draw-out versions for all ratings. Unless specified
otherwise, ACB shall be always supplied in draw-out version.

1.6.1.4 ACB shall be available in the frame sizes of 800A, 1000A, 1250A, 1600A,
2000A, 2500A, 3200A, 4000A, 5000A, 6300A. ACB without carrying out any
modifications shall be able to receive, a combination of wide range of auxiliaries,
special modules, accessories and connections devices as described and/or
specified below.

1.6.1.5 ACB shall be of compact size, simplify the design of switchboards and
standardize the installation of devices. Terminal connection of the ACB shall be
identical for all ACB ratings. Physical dimensions of the ACB (within its own
version) shall be same for ACB as per current rating for standardization and
interchangeability purpose as given below:
- ACB rated from 400A to 4000A (up to 150KA) to be same size
- ACB rated above 4000A and up to 6300A (up to 150KA) to be same size

1.6.1.6 ACB power contacts shall be encased in a reinforced polyester casing and offer
double insulation, class II (as per IEC standards) from the operators on the
breaker front face. The circuit breaker shall also offer total insulation of the
control part with respect to the power part. Each pole shall be effectively isolated
and housed in its own compartment. The isolation function shall be certified by
tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system, the
absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between the
upstream and downstream connections.

1.6.1.7 The operating mechanism of the ACB shall be of the quick-make, quick-break
type with the fault tripping overriding manual operation. All poles of the ACB shall
operate simultaneously for closing, opening and tripping. The operating
mechanism of the ACB shall be of the O.C.O stored energy spring type with a
closing time of less than or equal to 80ms.

Opening and closing operations shall be instantaneous. Wherever specified, the


spring charging shall be motor charged and it shall be possible to charge
manually also. Wherever required, a mechanical operation counter shall be
provided on the front face of the circuit breaker to sum the number of operating
cycles.

1.6.1.8 ACB power contacts shall be designed to be maintenance free in normal usage.

1.6.1.9 Arc chutes shall include stainless-steel filters. The chutes shall absorb the
energy released during breaking, thus limiting the stresses exerted on the
installation. Arc chutes shall filter and cool gases produced, reducing effects
perceptible from the outside. Arc chutes shall be common for the whole range
and removable on site to allow inspection of arc chutes and main contacts. Arc
chute cover shall be provided for the circuit breaker.

1.6.1.10 Mechanical indicator shall be provided on the front face of the air circuit breaker
which is linked to the main contact assembly in such a manner so as to positively
indicate the contact status. It shall be possible for OFF to be indicated when all
power contacts are parted and isolated by the required distance.

1.6.1.11 ON and OFF push buttons shall be provided on the front face of the air circuit
breaker. The operating pushbuttons shall be color coded as black for ON and
red for OFF function. Wherever required and/or applicable, transparent cover
blocks shall be fitted to prevent direct access to the circuit breaker close and
open operating push buttons. It shall be possible to independently lock the
opening button and the closing button using pad lock device or by lead seal or by
screws.

1.6.1.12 Stored-energy-mechanism charging handle shall also be available on the front


face of the air circuit breaker. A mechanical indicator shall also be provided on
the front face of the circuit breaker to indicate the status of the stored-energy
mechanism.

1.6.1.13 Microprocessor based intelligent and user friendly control-trip unit device shall be
part of each air circuit breaker. Control-trip unit shall be installed flush front with
the front face of the air circuit breaker. Control-trip unit setting adjustments, LCD
screen displays and LED fault indications shall be available and accessible from
the front of the circuit breaker. Control-trip units shall be equipped with a digital
high-resolution LCD screen display and simple navigational buttons to navigate
between the screens and it shall be possible to directly access the parameters.
Text shall be displayed in desired language. The control unit cover shall be lead
sealed to prevent uncontrolled access to the dials and protect the settings.

1.6.1.14 Control-trip unit device shall be capable of carrying out high speed calculations
and shall offer powerful functions. Sensors for control-trip unit device shall be
either Non-Magnetic or Rogosky type for accurate measurements. Control-trip
unit device shall measure the true RMS value of the current. Control-trip unit
device shall accurately measure system parameters, instantly calculate values,
store data, signal alarms, take action, etc.

Control-trip unit device shall comprise a thermal memory to store temperature-


rise data in the event of repeated overload or earth fault. Wherever specified,
Communication and event logging features shall be included in the control-trip
unit device. The intelligent control-trip unit shall constitute both an extremely
reliable protective device and an accurate measurement instrument.

1.6.1.15 Control-trip unit protection functions shall be separate from the measurement
functions and managed by an ASIC electronic component. Control-trip unit shall
guarantee the immunity from conducted or radiated disturbances and ensure a
high degree of reliability. Wherever specified, Double setting system shall be
available for protection functions. The double setting system shall establish a
maximum threshold set using the control unit dials and fine adjustments via the
keypad or remotely. The fine adjustments for thresholds (to within range of one
ampere) and tripping relays (to within a fraction of a second) shall be displayed
directly on the screen.

1.6.1.16 Control-trip unit device shall be designed to trip the circuit breaker in the event of
overloads and short-circuits. Wherever applicable, Control-trip unit device shall
also be designed to trip the circuit breaker in the event of earth fault protection.
The electronic trip units shall be with adjustable over load and short circuit fault
protection functions. The protection settings shall be adjustable using the
adjustment dials on the font face of the trip units. The protection settings shall
apply to all circuit breaker poles. Earth fault or earth leakage protections shall be
provided, wherever required and/or as indicated on the drawings.

1.6.1.17 Electrical characteristics of control-trip unit shall at least meet the following
requirements:
Protection settings:
- Long time Ir shall be adjustable between 0.4 to 1x In (9 settings min.)
- Time delay tr (long time) shall be adj. between 0.5 to 24s (9 settings min.)
- Tripping current between 1.05 and 1.2 x Ir
- Short time Isd shall be adjustable between 1.5 to 10 x Ir (9 settings min.)
- Time delay tsd (short time) shall be adj. between 0.1 to 0.4s (It On / Off)
- Instantaneous Ii shall be adj. between 2 to 15 (8 settings min.) x In or OFF
- Earth fault Ig shall be adjustable between 0.2 to 1 x In (9 settings min.)
- Time delay tg (earth fault) shall be adjustable between 0.1 to 0.4s (It On /
Off)

1.6.1.18 Wherever specified and/or required, Control trip unit shall include the following
alarm, additional protection and/or measurement features in addition to the
above mentioned protection settings:
Alarm and other Protection:
- Current imbalance threshold: 0.04 to 0.6 Imax, delay 1 to 40s
- Current max demand threshold: 0.4 In at short time pick up, delay 0 to
1500s
- Voltage imbalance threshold: 0.02 to 0.3 Uavearge, delay 1 to 40s
- Minimum voltage threshold: 60 to 690V between phases, delay 0.2 to 5s
- Maximum voltage threshold: 100 to 930V between phases, delay 0.2 to 5s
- Reverse power threshold: 5 to 500KW, delay 0.2 to 20s
- Minimum frequency threshold: 45 to 400Hz, delay 0.2 to 5s
- Maximum frequency threshold: 45 to 540Hz, delay 0.2 to 5s

- Phase sequence: 1/2/3 or 1/3/2


Measurements
- Real time electrical values (V,A,W,VAR,VA, Wh, VARh, VAh, Hz, PF)
- Calculate demand current and power demand over an adjustable time
period
- Digital display shall indicate the true RMS value of the current on each
phase
- LED bar graph shall simultaneously display the load level of the three
phases
- Control-trip unit shall store in memory and display the maximum current
value registered since the last reset. The registered data shall be displayed
even after tripping of the circuit breaker.

1.6.1.19 Control-trip unit current based protection functions shall function without any
auxiliary source. Wherever applicable, Voltage based functions shall be
connected to AC power via a voltage measurement input built into the circuit
breaker.

1.6.1.20 Control-trip unit, In the event of tripping on fault shall store the interrupted
current. It shall be possible using an external supply to display the value with the
circuit breaker open or not supplied. Wherever specified and/or required, last ten
trips and alarms shall be recorded as history files. Maintenance indications
(contact wear, operation cycles, etc.) shall also be recorded for local access.

1.6.1.21 Where applicable and/or required, Control-trip units shall be capable of adjusting
the slope of the overload protection curve (IDMT setting) and thus ensure
coordination with fuse type or medium voltage protection systems.

1.6.1.22 Where applicable and/or required, Control-unit shall provide programmable


digital auxiliary contacts for indication and/or remote use. The auxiliary
programmable contacts shall be for signal threshold overruns and/or status
changes. It shall be possible to program the contacts from the control-trip unit.

1.6.1.23 Where applicable and/or required, It shall be possible to include a


communication with supervision system at any time as an option. The control-
unit shall be capable of supporting the communication to achieve the following
functions:
- Remotely control and monitor the status of the circuit breaker.
- Remotely read and set parameters for the protection functions.
- Transmit all the calculated indicators and measurements
- Signal the causes of tripping and alarm
- Consult the history files and maintenance-indicator register
- An event log and a maintenance register

1.6.1.24 Where applicable and/or required, the control-unit shall be capable of carrying
out load shedding and reconnection function. The threshold setting and time
delay shall be adjustable through the navigation buttons.

1.6.1.25 Where applicable and/or required, the control-unit shall be capable of providing
in-depth analysis of the power quality including calculation of harmonics and the
fundamentals. It shall be possible to capture waveform to provide diagnostics aid
and event analysis.

1.6.1.26 ACB shall be equipped with a mechanical fault trip indicator / breaker reset
button on the front face of the circuit breaker. After a fault trip it shall not be
possible to close the circuit breaker by any means without resetting by the reset
button.

1.6.1.27 Control-trip unit device shall be interchangeable at site with different versions of
control-trip unit without any modification to the circuit breaker. Control-trip units
of circuit breaker shall be with a facility to connect a test kit to check the
operation of the control-trip unit. The trip units shall not augment the overall
volume of the ACB.

1.6.1.28 Integral discrete LEDs at the front face of the control-trip unit to indicate the
cause of tripping and another LED for overload alarm signal shall be available.
Integral battery unit with at least 10year service life shall be provided within the
control-trip unit for power supply to the LEDs. A reset / lamp-battery test button
on the front face of the trip unit shall be available to check the fault trip LED and
battery condition. It shall be possible to replace the battery at site when
discharged.

1.6.1.29 ACB power supply feed shall be possible either from upstream or downstream
side without any adverse affect on electrical performance

1.6.1.30 ACB shall allow high cascading performance with the downstream circuit
breakers. The circuit breaker shall ensure discrimination between two circuit
breakers positioned in series in an installation.

1.6.1.31 ACB rated service breaking capacity (Ics) shall be equal to the ultimate breaking
capacity (Icu). The electrical endurance of the ACB, as defined by IEC standard,
shall be at least equal to 10000 cycles for ACB rated up to 4000A and 5000
cycles for ACB rated more than 4000A.

1.6.1.32 ACB rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) shall be as stated in the drawings,
wherever the fault level at the installation / distribution board is less than 42KA
the minimum ultimate breaking capacity of the ACB shall be shall be 42KA as
per IEC 60947-2.

1.6.1.33 ACB shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of various auxiliaries
such as shunt release, under voltage release and indication switches, where
ever required. The auxiliaries shall be separated from the power circuit. The
auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted with terminal blocks. All the
auxiliaries shall be common for the entire range. The addition of auxiliaries shall
not increase the volume of the circuit breaker.

1.6.1.34 Auxiliary contacts shall be provided to the circuit breaker for status indication,
wherever specified. The On/ Off contact shall indicate the position of the circuit
breaker and the Trip contact shall that the circuit breaker has tripped due to an
over load and/or short circuit and/or operation of release. Rated thermal current
of the indication contacts shall be at least equal to 6A.

1.6.1.35 Remote tripping facility shall be provided to the circuit breaker, wherever
specified. Remote tripping shall be possible by installation of voltage releases to
the circuit breaker. Releases shall be either shunt (opening) release type or
under volt release type to suit the requirement. The shunt release shall trip the
breaker when the control voltage to the release rises above 0.7 x Un and the
under voltage release shall trip the circuit breaker when the control voltage to the
release drops below 0.7 x Un, the circuit breaker re-closing shall be possible
only if the control voltage to the under volt release exceeds O.85 x Un.
When the circuit breaker is tripped by the shunt or under voltage release, it shall
be reset locally. The tripping shall take priority over manual closing. In the
presence of standing trip order, closing of the power contacts even temporarily is
not to be allowed. A continuous power supply to the shunt release shall lock the
circuit breaker in the OFF condition. The voltage release shall be capable of
operating with maintained supply.

1.6.1.36 Remote closing facility shall be provided to the circuit breaker, wherever
specified. Remote closing shall be possible by installation of voltage release
(closing release) to the circuit breaker. The closing release shall close the
breaker when the control voltage to the release rises above 0.85 x Un.

1.6.1.37 Wherever specified and/or required, Gear motor shall be provided to the circuit
breaker to automatically charge and recharge the spring mechanism when the
circuit breaker is closed. Instantaneous re-closing of breaker shall be possible
following an opening. The spring-mechanism charging handle shall be used only
as a backup if auxiliary power is absent. The gear motor shall be equipped as
standard with a limit switch contact that signals the charged position of the
mechanism. The charging time shall not exceed 4seconds and the operating
cycle shall be at least 3 cycles per minute.

1.6.1.38 Wherever specified and/or required, Ready to close position contact shall be
provided to wire to an indication lamps to indicate that the circuit breaker is in
ready to close condition.

1.6.1.39 ACB shall be able to receive a keylock device for locking in the off position. It
shall not be possible to lock the circuit breaker unless the power contacts are
open.

1.6.1.40 ACB shall be suitable for receiving mechanical interlocks, wherever required. It
shall be possible to interlock two or three circuit breakers mechanically. The
mechanical interlocking shall be carried out by one of the below given methods:
- Interlocking of two or three ACBs stacked side by side;
- Interlocking of two ACBs stacked one above other;
- Interlocking number two or three using key locks;

The type of interlock shall be chosen to meet the requirements. The mechanical
interlock mechanism shall inhibit the two devices being closed at the same time,
but shall allow both to be open (Off) at the same time. Interlocks shall not allow
even momentary paralleling of the sources.

1.6.1.41 ACB shall be able to integrate in to a supervisory & control system, wherever
specified. It shall be possible to install trip units with communication options on to
the circuit breaker and hooked up on to the communication bus. The interface
units or communication modules shall support the system to communicate on
either Modbus bus or Digipact bus. Communication functions shall be
independent of the control unit.
1.6.1.42 Unless specified otherwise, ACB shall always be supplied as draw-out type. The
draw-out configuration shall allow the breaker to be in three discrete positions;
connected, test and disconnected. The withdrawable breaker shall perform the
following in various positions:
- Connected position:
The Power circuits and auxiliary contacts shall be connected.
- Test Position:
The power circuits disconnected, the auxiliary contacts shall be connected
and the ACB can be operated electrically.
- Disconnected position:
The power circuits and auxiliary contacts are all disconnected, however the
ACB is still mounted on the chassis. It shall be possible to operate
manually (On and Off function).
Safety trip shall be installed on the circuit breaker, that shall cause automatic
tripping of the circuit breaker (if in ON position) before engaging or withdrawing
it. The safety trip shall not prevent the circuit breaker operation, even when it has
been removed out of the chassis. Wherever required, it shall be possible to
indication contacts to indicate the position of the breaker as either connected or
disconnected or test position.
The chassis of the draw-out configuration of ACB shall include the features such
as ACB connection and disconnection through a door by using a crank that can
be stored in the chassis, local position indicator for breaker position on the
chassis and position indicator by carriage switch for remote use / indication
purpose.
The chassis of the draw-out configuration shall have various safety features
such as mismatch protection, door interlock, racking interlock, keylock locking,
padlock locking, etc. as applicable and/or as required. The chassis shall also be
equipped with accessories such as chassis front plate, crank entry, reset button
and crank storage.
Safety shutters shall be provided for the power contacts of the chassis, the
safety shutter automatically block access to the disconnecting contact cluster
when the device is in disconnected or test positions (degree of protection shall
be at least IP20) when the device is removed from the chassis, no live parts shall
be accessible. Wherever applicable and/or required, shutter locking system to
prevent connection of the device and locking the shutter in closed position shall
be provided.

1.6.1.43 Where specified as fixed ACB, The fixed circuit breaker shall be derived from the
moving part of a draw-out circuit breaker by adding a fixing bracket on each side.

1.6.1.44 Where the circuit breaker is installed with the front of ACB exposed outside the
cubicle, It shall be possible to draw-out the circuit breaker to test and
disconnected without opening the cubicle door. After installation and insertion of
the breaker to the chassis, the front face of the ACB shall be flush front with the
cubicle door without any noticeable projection. The degree of protection of the
front face of the ACB shall be at least IP40. A door frame shall be provided for
ACB for installation on the cubicle door. Wherever required, it shall be possible
to increase the degree of protection of the front face of the ACB to IP54 by
providing an optional hinged cover.

1.6.1.45 ACB terminals shall be suitable for readily receiving the busbars or the specified
power cable as per the breaker ratings. Where the cable sizes are bigger, the
ACB shall be provided with suitable custom made busbar extension or other
termination accessories from ACB manufacturer. Wherever applicable the
terminations shall be provided with original terminal shields and inter phase
insulating barriers from the ACB manufacturer.

1.6.1.46 ACB connection devices to facilitate the installation and connection of the circuit
breakers to the main busbars in a distribution boards and/or to the power cables
shall provided. The connection devices shall include special arrangements for
front connection, vertical connection and rear connection.

1.6.1.47 ACB shall be provided with rating plate with all standardized characteristics
indicated on the rating plate. It shall include all ratings of the rated insulation
voltage, rated impulse withstand voltage, ultimate breaking capacity for various
rated operational voltage, utilization category, rated short-time withstand current,
service breaking capacity and the standard the ACB complies with.

1.6.1.48 Portable test equipment shall be available for testing the operation of control- trip
unit and circuit breaker tripping. Test equipment shall be battery operated type
and shall not require any external power supply for operation. Test equipment
shall check all the aspects of the protection functions.

1.6.2 Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)

1.6.2.1 Moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB) as per the current ratings, no. of poles
and breaking capacity as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be
provided. The MCCB shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -10C to +70C ambient and calibrated at least at 40C ambient.
Wherever required and applicable, the MCCB shall be suitably de-rated as per
manufacturer recommendations.

1.6.2.2 Moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB) shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards. The MCCB shall have a rated operational voltage of 690V AC, 50Hz
and rated insulation voltage of 750V AC, 50Hz.The MCCB shall be suitable for
isolation as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.2.3 MCCB shall be of moulded case type and compact design. The MCCB shall be
available in 1pole, 2pole, 3pole and 4pole versions for ratings up to 250A and in
3pole and 4pole versions for ratings above 250A.

1.6.2.4 MCCB shall be available in the frame sizes of 100A, 160A, 250A, 400A, 630A,
800A, 1000A, 1250A, 1600A, 2000A, 2500A & 3200A. MCCB without carrying
out any modifications shall be able to receive, a combination of wide range of
auxiliaries, special modules, accessories and connections devices as described
and/or specified below.

1.6.2.5 The physical dimensions of the MCCB (within its own version) shall be same for
MCCB as per current rating for standardization and interchangeability purpose
as given below:
- MCCB rated from 16A and up to 250A (up to 150KA) to be of same size
- MCCB rated above 250A and up to 630A (up to 150KA) to be same size
- MCCB rated above 630A and up to 1600A (up to 70KA) to be same size
- MCCB rated above 1600A and up to 3200A (up to 85KA) to be same size

1.6.2.6 MCCB power contacts shall be insulated in an enclosure made of a


thermosetting material from other functions such as the operating mechanism,
the case, the trip unit and the auxiliaries. MCCB shall provide class II insulation
(as per IEC standards) between the front and internal power circuits. The
operating mechanism of the MCCB shall be of the quick-make, quick-break type
with the fault tripping overriding manual operation. All poles of the MCCB shall
operate simultaneously for closing, opening and tripping.

1.6.2.7 MCCB shall be actuated by toggle or handle (as applicable) that clearly indicates
the three positions: On, Off and Tripped. The operating mechanism of the MCCB
shall be designed such that the toggle or handle can only be in off position, if the
power contacts are actually separated. Isolation shall be provided by a double
break on the main circuit. The isolation function shall be certified by tests
guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system, the
absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between the
upstream and downstream connections.

1.6.2.8 MCCB rated up to 250A shall comprise a thermal - magnetic trip unit device or
an electronic trip unit device (where applicable) and MCCB rated above 250A
shall always comprise an electronic trip unit device. The trip unit device shall be
designed to trip the circuit breaker in the event of overload or short circuit
currents. The sensors for the trip unit device shall be of Non-magnetic type or
Rogosky type for accurate measurements. The thermal magnetic trip units shall
be with adjustable thermal protection & fixed magnetic protection and the
electronic trip units shall be with adjustable over load & short circuit protection.
The protection settings shall be adjustable using the adjustment dials on the
font face of the trip units. The protection settings shall apply to all circuit breaker
poles.

1.6.2.9 Electrical characteristics of circuit breakers shall at least meet the below given
settings adjustment requirements:

For circuit breakers with Thermal-magnetic trip unit, rated up to 250Amps


- Thermal current Ir shall be adjustable between 0.8 to 1x In
- Standard magnetic current Im shall be fixed

Wherever applicable, for the purpose of discrimination with the series installed
circuit breakers, trip units of higher versions than the specified types shall be
chosen. The higher version trip units shall have additional setting adjustments for
adjusting the instantaneous trip current Ii and also for tripping time adjustments
for both long time Ir and short time Isd.

1.6.2.10 Electronic trip units of circuit breaker shall be with a facility to connect a mini test
kit to check the operation of the circuit breaker. The trip units shall not augment
the overall volume of the MCCB. It shall be possible to fit lead seals to prevent
unauthorized access to the trip unit settings.

1.6.2.11 Thermal magnetic trip units and electronic trip units shall be fully
interchangeable within the range of the breakers. It shall be possible to fit a
lower current rated trip unit on higher current rated circuit breaker but not vice
versa. It shall be also be possible to replace the thermal magnetic trip unit with
an electronic trip unit without any modification to the circuit breaker.

1.6.2.12 Circuit breaker for motor protection shall be equipped with a specially designed
motor protection trip unit (magnetic trip unit). Electrical characteristics of motor
protection circuit breakers shall at least meet the below given settings
adjustment requirements.
For circuit breakers with magnetic trip unit, short circuit protection (magnetic) Im
shall be as follows:
- Adjustable between 6 to 14 x In (for MCCB rated up to 100A)
- Adjustable between 9 to 14 x In (for MCCB rated above 100A and up to
500A)

For circuit breakers with Electronic motor protection trip unit, rated up to
250Amps
- Over load (long time) Ir shall be adjustable between 0.6 to 1 x In (up to 10 settings)
- Short circuit (short time) Isd shall be fixed at 13 x Ir
- Short circuit (instantaneous) Ii shall be fixed at 15 x In

1.6.2.13 MCCB shall be equipped with a push to trip button in front face of MCCB for
test operation and opening the poles.

1.6.2.14 Integral LEDs at the front face of the circuit breaker electronic trip unit to indicate
the cause of tripping shall be available, wherever required. Integral battery unit
with at least 10year service life shall be provided within the trip unit power supply
to the LEDs. A test button on the front face of the trip unit shall be available to
check the battery condition. It shall be possible to replace the battery at site
when discharged.

1.6.2.15 Where applicable / specified, Residual earth leakage protection shall be provided
along with the circuit breaker. The earth leakage protection shall be either fully
integrated to the trip unit or it can be an additional module added to the circuit
breaker or a separate earth leakage relay.

1.6.2.16 The MCCB shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting at least
up to 630A, without any adverse effect on electrical performance. MCCB above
630A shall always be mounted vertically. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side.

1.6.2.17 MCCB shall be of current limiting type and shall allow high cascading
performance with the downstream circuit breakers. The circuit breaker shall
ensure discrimination between two circuit breakers positioned in series in an
installation. MCCB rated up to 630A shall discriminate with the down stream
circuit breakers which are rated less than or equal to 0.4 times that of the
upstream circuit breaker for any fault current up to 35KA.
The MCCB shall be capable of greatly limiting the fault currents. Under short
circuit, the maximum thermal stress It of the MCCB shall be limited to 106AS for
MCCB rated up to 250A and 5 x 106AS for MCCB rated above 250A and up to
630A.

1.6.2.18 MCCB rated service breaking capacity (Ics) shall be equal to the ultimate
breaking capacity (Icu) for MCCB rated up to 630A and Ics shall be at least 50%
of Icu for MCCB rated above 630A. The electrical endurance of the MCCB, as
defined by IEC standard, shall be at least equal to 3 times the minimum required
by the standard.

1.6.2.19 MCCB rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) shall be as stated in the drawings,
wherever the fault level at the installation / distribution board is less than 25KA
the minimum ultimate breaking capacity of the MCCB shall be shall be 25KA as
per IEC 60947-2.

1.6.2.20 MCCB, when provided as part of the motor starter circuit, for complete protection
of the motor and its control device, over load protection shall be provided either
integral in the circuit breaker or by separate thermal relay.

The combination of MCCB, contactor and thermal relays shall comply with Type2
protection coordination as per IEC standards.

1.6.2.21 MCCB classified as non auto switch-disconnector from the MCCB manufacturer
shall be provided, wherever specified as Non Auto MCCB. NA MCCB shall
include and accommodate all the accessories of the MCCB. NA MCCB shall be
same in physical dimensions & general appearance as the MCCB.
Non Auto MCCB shall be installed in co-ordination with the upstream protection
device. Non Auto MCCB rated at least up to 630A shall be self protected.
Wherever required and/or specified, it shall be provided with an integral earth
fault protection.
NA-MCCB shall be tested and tabulated by the manufacturer for the rated short
circuit withstand capacity and short circuit making capacity in co-ordination with
the upstream protection devices. The NA-MCCB rated short circuit withstand
capacity in co-ordination with the upstream protection device shall be as stated
in the drawings, The maximum short circuit making capacity of the NA-MCCB
shall be up to 330KA (peak) with the upstream protection device.

1.6.2.22 MCCB shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of various auxiliaries
such as shunt release, under voltage release and indication switches, where
ever required. The auxiliaries shall be separated from the power circuit. The
auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted with terminal blocks. All the
auxiliaries shall be common for the entire range. The addition of auxiliaries shall
not increase the volume of the circuit breaker.

1.6.2.23 Auxiliary contacts shall be provided to the circuit breaker for status indication,
wherever specified. A single type of contact shall provide different indication
functions depending on where it is inserted in the device. The On/ Off contact
shall indicate the position of the circuit breaker and the Trip contact shall indicate
that the circuit breaker has tripped due to an over load and/or short circuit and/or
operation of release. Rated thermal current of the indication contacts shall be at
least equal to 6A.

1.6.2.24 Remote tripping facility shall be provided to the circuit breaker, wherever
specified. Remote tripping shall be possible by installation of voltage releases to
the circuit breaker. Releases shall be either shunt release type or under volt
release type to suit the requirement. The shunt release shall trip the breaker
when the control voltage to the release rises above 0.7 x Un and the under
voltage release shall trip the circuit breaker when the control voltage to the
release drops below 0.7 x Un, the circuit breaker re-closing shall be possible
only if the control voltage to the under volt release exceeds O.85 x Un.
When the circuit breaker is tripped by the shunt or under voltage release, it shall
be reset locally. The tripping shall take priority over manual closing. In the
presence of standing trip order, closing of the power contacts even temporarily is
not to be allowed.

1.6.2.25 Motor mechanism shall be provided to the circuit breaker for remote operation of
the circuit breaker, wherever specified. Remote closing and opening shall be
possible by installation of motor mechanism to the circuit breaker.

The motor mechanism module shall be compact and designed easy to fit on the
circuit breaker. The motor mechanism shall directly fit over the operating toggles
of the circuit breaker and shall not block the terminal and all circuit breaker
indications & information remain visible and accessible (including the trip-unit
setting and indications). The suitability for isolation shall be maintained and
padlocking shall remain possible. It shall be possible to install and maintain the
connections of the motor mechanism on to the plug-in and withdrawable
versions also.
The front face of the motor mechanism shall include; circuit breaker rating plate,
contact position indicator, charging spring status indicator, manual spring charge
lever, auto manual selector switch and manual mode On / Off push buttons.
Wherever applicable, a key lock and/or Off position locking device shall be
provided.
The Automatic operation control features shall include; Operation of circuit
breaker (On / Off) controlled by two impulse-type or maintained control signals,
Automatic spring charging shall follow voluntary tripping (by under voltage or
shunt release) with standard wiring and mandatory manual reset following
tripping due to an electrical fault.
The Manual operation control features shall include; Transfer to manual mode
using a switch (on the motor mechanism) with possibility of remote mode
indication, Circuit breaker On / Off controlled by 2 push buttons (on the motor
mechanism) , manual recharging of stored-energy system by pumping the lever
several times, and provision for padlocking in Off position.

1.6.2.26 MCCB shall be able to receive rotary type operating handle of direct type or
extended type for ease of operation and/or for door interlock purpose. The
addition of accessories such as rotary handle or motor mechanism or any other
auxiliaries shall not mask or block the device settings.

1.6.2.27 MCCB shall be able to receive a device for locking in the OFF position. It shall
not be possible to padlock the circuit breaker unless the power contacts are
open.

1.6.2.28 MCCB shall be suitable for receiving mechanical interlocks, wherever required. It
shall be possible to interlock two or three manually operated circuit breakers
mechanically. The mechanical interlocking shall be carried out by one of the
below given methods:
- Interlocking of two or three toggle-controlled MCCBs;
- Interlocking of two MCCBs with rotary handles;
- Interlocking number of MCCBs using key locks;
- Interlocking of two MCCBs on a base plate.

The type of interlock shall be chosen to meet the requirements. The mechanical
interlock mechanism shall inhibit the two devices being closed at the same time,
but shall allow both to be open (Off) at the same time. Interlocks shall not allow
even momentary paralleling of the sources.

1.6.2.29 MCCB shall be able to integrate in to a supervisory & control system, wherever
specified. It shall be possible to install communication auxiliary contacts, motor
mechanism, trip units with communication options on to the circuit breaker and
hooked up on to the communication bus. Alternatively it shall be possible to
integrate circuit breakers equipped with non communication auxiliaries also in to
the supervisory system. Dedicated control and indication interface module shall
be available for this purpose to hook it up to the communication bus. The
interface units or communication modules shall support the system to
communicate on either Modbus bus or Digipact bus. Communication functions
shall be independent of the control unit.
The MCCB shall be capable of communicating the following data via bus:
- Circuit breaker status (On / Off / Tipped);
- Circuit breaker position (Connected / Disconnected);
- Control-unit settings;
- Tripping causes;
- Measurements processed by the control unit.

1.6.2.30 MCCB shall be able to receive various special modules, wherever specified
and/or applicable. The special and dedicated modules shall be integrated in to
the MCCB for various functions such as voltage presence indicator, current
measurement with local ammeter or for local ammeter, insulation monitoring and
communication.

1.6.2.31 The MCCB shall be fixed or plug-in or withdrawable type as shown on the
drawings or specified elsewhere.

1.6.2.32 Where specified as plug-in type, the plug-in configuration shall allow to extract
and/or rapidly replace the circuit breaker without having to touch the
connections. It shall be possible to mount the plug-in base on a mounting plate
or mounting through a front panel or mounting on rails. The plug-in configuration
shall comprise of a circuit breaker, set of power connectors added to the circuit
breaker, plug-in base, and a safety trip.
Safety trip shall be installed on the circuit breaker, that shall cause automatic
tripping of the circuit breaker (if in ON position) before engaging or withdrawing
it. The safety trip shall not prevent the circuit breaker operation, even when it has
been removed out of the plug-in base.
The circuit breaker shall be protected to IP4 level against direct contact with
power circuits with the circuit breaker plugged-in and IP2 level against direct
contact with power circuits with the circuit breaker removed.
Circuit breaker above 630A rating (even if specified as plug-in type) shall be
always supplied in withdrawable version only.

1.6.2.33 Where specified as withdrawable type, the withdrawable configuration shall allow
the breaker rated up to 630A to be in three discrete positions; connected,
disconnected and removed. The withdrawable configuration shall comprise of a
circuit breaker, set of power connectors added to the circuit breaker, chassis,
and a safety trip.

Safety trip shall be installed on the circuit breaker, that shall cause automatic
tripping of the circuit breaker (if in ON position) before engaging or withdrawing
it. The safety trip shall not prevent the circuit breaker operation, even when it has
been removed out of the chassis. Wherever required, it shall be possible to
indication contacts to indicate the position of the breaker as either connected or
disconnected.
In disconnected position of the withdrawable configuration, the power circuits
shall be disconnected, but it shall be possible to switch On, Off and push-to-trip
the circuit breaker (with breaker on chassis in disconnected position).
For circuit breakers rated more than 630A, the withdrawable configuration shall
allow the breaker to be in four discrete positions; connected, test, disconnected
and removed. The withdrawable breaker shall perform the following in various
positions:
- Connected position:
The Power circuits and auxiliary contacts shall be connected.
- Test Position:
The power circuits disconnected, the auxiliary contacts shall be connected
and the MCCB can be operated electrically.
- Disconnected position:
The power circuits and auxiliary contacts are all disconnected, however the
MCCB is still mounted on the chassis. It shall be possible to operate
manually (On, Off, Push-to-trip functions).
- Removed position:
All circuits are disconnected. The device simply rests on the chassis rails
and shall be possible to remove.

The chassis of the withdrawable configuration of MCCB rated above 630A shall
include the features such as MCCB connection and disconnection by using a
crank that can be stored in the chassis, local position indicator for breaker
position on the chassis and position indicator by carriage switch for remote use /
indication purpose, where required.
The chassis of the withdrawable configuration of MCCB rated above 630A shall
have various optional safety features such as mismatch protection, door
interlock, racking interlock, keylock locking, padlock locking, etc. as applicable.
The chassis shall also be equipped with accessories such as chassis front plate,
crank entry, reset button and crank storage.

1.6.2.34 MCCB terminals shall be suitable for readily receiving the busbars or the
specified power cable as per the breaker ratings. Where the cable sizes are
bigger, the MCCB shall be provided with suitable custom made busbar extension
or other termination accessories from the original manufacturer. Wherever
applicable the terminations shall be provided with original terminal shields and
inter phase insulating barriers from the MCCB manufacturer.

1.6.2.35 MCCB connection devices to facilitate the installation and connection of the
circuit breakers to the main busbars in a distribution boards and/or to the power
cables shall provided. The connection devices shall include special
arrangements for front connection, direct rear connection and rear connection
through back plates.

1.6.3.1 Isolators as per the current ratings and no. of poles as shown on the drawings
and/or as required shall be provided. Isolator shall be suitable for operating at
temperature ranging between -10C to +70C ambient.

1.6.3.2 Isolator shall comply with the applicable IEC standards. Isolator shall have a
rated operational voltage of 690V AC, 50Hz and rated insulation voltage of 750V
AC, 50Hz. Isolator shall be suitable for isolation as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.3.3 Isolator shall be of moulded case type and compact design. Isolator shall be
available in 3pole and 4pole versions for ratings up to 2500A.

1.6.3.4 Isolator shall be available in the frame sizes of 40A, 63A, 80A, 100A, 125A,
160A, 200A, 250A, 320A, 400A, 500A, 630A, 1000A, 1600A & 2500A. Isolator
without carrying out any modifications shall be able to receive, a combination of
wide range of auxiliaries, accessories and connections devices as described
and/or specified below.

1.6.3.5 The physical dimensions of the isolator (within its own version) shall be same for
isolator as per current rating for standardization and interchangeability purpose
as given below:
- Isolator rated from 40A and up to 80A to be of same size
- Isolator rated above 80A and up to 160A to be same size
- Isolator rated above 160A and up to 250A to be same size
- Isolator rated above 250A and up to 630A to be same size
- Isolator rated above 630A and up to 1600A to be same size
- Isolator rated above 1600A and up to 2500A to be same size
Isolator rated up to 160A shall be a have standard depth and shall be suitable for
installing in modular enclosure:

1.6.3.6 Isolator power contacts shall be insulated in an enclosure made of a


thermosetting material and separated from other functions such as the operating
mechanism, the case, and the auxiliaries. Isolator shall provide class II insulation
(as per IEC standards) between the front and internal power circuits. The
operating mechanism of the Isolator shall ensure rapid opening and closing
(operator independent). All poles of the Isolator shall operate simultaneously for
closing and opening.

1.6.3.7 Isolator shall be actuated by handle that clearly indicates the two positions: On
and Off. The operating mechanism of the isolator shall be designed such that the
handle can only be in off position, if the power contacts are actually separated.
The isolation function shall be certified by tests guaranteeing the mechanical
reliability of the position indication system, the absence of leakage currents and
over voltage withstand capacity between the upstream and downstream
connections.

1.6.3.8 Isolator shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without any
adverse effect on electrical performance. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side.

1.6.3.9 Electrical endurance of the isolator shall be of category A, as defined by IEC


standards. Isolator shall correspond to AC23 utilization categories.

1.6.3.10 Isolator minimum short circuit current withstand (Icw) for 1s shall be at least as
given below:
- Isolator rated from 40A and up to 80A shall be 3KA min.
- Isolator rated above 80A and up to 160A shall be 5.5KA min.
- Isolator rated above 160A and up to 250A shall be 8.5KA min.
- Isolator rated above 250A and up to 630A shall be 20KA min.
- Isolator rated above 630A and up to 1600A shall be 35KA min.
- Isolator rated above 1600 and up to 2500A shall be 50KA min.

1.6.3.11 Isolator shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of auxiliaries such as
status indication switches, where ever required. The auxiliaries shall be
separated from the power circuit. The auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and
fitted with terminal blocks. The addition of auxiliaries shall not increase the
volume of the isolator.

1.6.3.12 Auxiliary contacts shall be provided to the isolator for status indication, wherever
specified. The On/ Off contact shall indicate the position of the isolator. Early
make and early break contact shall be used, wherever applicable. Rated thermal
current of the indication contacts shall be at least equal to 6A.

1.6.3.13 Isolator shall be able to receive rotary type operating handle of direct type or
extended type for ease of operation and/or for door interlock purpose. The
addition of accessories such as direct or extended rotary handle or any other
auxiliaries shall not mask or block the device characteristics label.

1.6.3.14 Isolator shall be able to receive a device for locking in the isolated position. It
shall not be possible to padlock the circuit breaker unless the power contacts are
open.

1.6.3.15 Isolator shall be suitable for receiving mechanical interlocks, wherever required.
It shall be possible to interlock two or three manually operated isolators
mechanically. The mechanical interlocking shall be carried out by one of the
below given methods:
- Interlocking of two isolators with rotary handles;

- Interlocking number of isolators using key locks;

The type of interlock shall be chosen to meet the requirements. The mechanical
interlock mechanism shall inhibit the two devices being closed at the same time,
but shall allow both to be open (Off) at the same time. Interlocks shall not allow
even momentary paralleling of the sources.

1.6.3.16 Isolator terminals shall be suitable for readily receiving the busbars or the
specified power cable as per the isolator ratings. Where the cable sizes are
bigger, isolator shall be provided with suitable custom made busbar extension or
other termination accessories from the original manufacturer. Wherever
applicable the terminations shall be provided with original terminal shields and
inter phase insulating barriers from the isolator manufacturer.

1.6.3.17 Isolator connection devices to facilitate the installation and connection of the
isolators to the main busbars in a distribution boards and/or to the power cables
shall provided. The connection devices shall include special arrangements for
front connection, direct rear connection and rear connection through back plates.

1.6.3.18 Isolator shall be provided with rating plate with all standardized characteristics
indicated on the rating plate. It shall include all ratings of the rated current, rated
insulation voltage, rated impulse withstand voltage, rated operational voltage,
utilization category and the standard the isolator complies with.

1.6.4 Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)

1.6.4.1 Miniature circuit breakers (MCB) as per the current ratings, no. of poles and
breaking capacity as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be
provided. The MCB shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -10C to +60C ambient and calibrated at least at 30C ambient.
Wherever required and applicable, the MCB shall be suitably de-rated as per
manufacturer recommendations.

1.3.4.2 The miniature circuit breaker (MCB) shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards. MCB shall have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC, 50Hz
as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.4.3 MCB shall be modular, compact and din rail mounted design. The MCB shall be
easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail. The MCB shall be easily
removable from the busbar without disturbing the adjacent installed MCB when
installed in a busbar system. Physical dimensions and appearance of MCB
(within its own version and model) shall be same for all MCB rating for
interchangeability and standardization purpose.

1.6.4.4 MCB shall be classified and certified by the manufacturer to use in the
residential, tertiary sector and industrial sector.

1.6.4.5 MCB shall be available in 1pole, 2pole, 3pole, 4pole versions and in the current
ratings of 1A, 2A, 4A, 6A, 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A, 40A, 50A, 63A, 80A, 100A &
125A. MCB shall be available in different breaking capacities up to 50KA.
Unless specified otherwise and/or designed for special applications, MCB shall

be suitable for protecting circuits against over load & short circuit currents,
control, disconnection and protecting the person against indirect contact.

1.6.4.6 MCB shall be available in 2pole and 3pole versions for protection of motor starter
circuits against short circuit current. Standard AC circuit protection MCB shall not
be used for protection of motor starter. Motor protection MCB shall be available
in the current ratings of 1.6A, 2.5A, 4A, 6.3A, 10A, 12.5A, 16A, 25A, & 40A.
Motor protection MCB shall be available in different breaking capacities up to
20KA.Motor protection MCB shall be equipped with magnetic trip units only and
they shall be combined with suitable thermal protection of starters to achieve
coordination.

1.6.4.7 MCB shall be available in 1pole and 2pole versions for protection of DC circuit.
Standard AC circuit protection MCB shall not be used for protection of DC
circuits. DC MCB shall be available in the current ratings of 1A, 2A, 3A, 6A, 10A,
16A, 20A, 25A, 32A & 40A. 1pole MCB shall be suitable for 127V DC and 2pole
MCB shall be suitable for 250V DC operating voltage. MCB shall be available in
different breaking capacities up to 10KA.The polarity of terminals shall be printed
marked on the MCB front face. The magnetic release operating range of the DC
MCB shall be between 7In to 10In and shall be of Type: C curve as per IEC
standards.

1.6.4.8 The operating range of the magnetic release of MCB shall be classified as B, C,
& D tripping curves as defined in IEC standards and the MCB shall be available
in all the tripping curves for all rating and breaking capacity without any change
in dimension or appearance, within its own version and model. Unless specified
otherwise, the MCB shall be suitable for protecting the cables feeding the
conventional loads. The magnetic release operating range of the MCB shall be
between 5In to 10In and shall be of Type: C curve as per IEC standards.
Wherever specified and/or the MCB is used for protecting loads with high inrush
currents like the motor circuits or transformer circuits, the MCB magnetic release
operating range shall be 10In to 14In and shall be of Type: D curve as per IEC
standards.

1.6.4.9 MCB operating mechanism shall be mechanically trip free from operating toggle
so as to prevent the contacts from being held closed against short circuit
conditions. MCB shall be of automatic resetting type. All poles of the MCB shall
operate simultaneously for closing, opening and tripping. The individual
operating mechanism of each pole of a multi pole MCB shall be directly linked
within the MCB casing and not only by the operating handles.

1.6.4.10 MCB shall be actuated by toggle. The isolation function shall be certified by tests
guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system, the
absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between the
upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be with positive break
indication. The number of operation cycle (0-C) of the MCB shall be at least
equal to 20000.

1.6.4.11 MCB shall be provided with bi-metal thermal and magnetic element on each
individual pole and shall combine the functions of protection of circuits against
overload currents and short circuit currents. The MCB shall also perform the
function of isolation. With addition of certain accessories to the MCB, it shall be

possible to perform the functions of control and protection of persons against


indirect contact.

1.6.4.12 MCB rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) shall be as stated in the drawings
and/or as per the fault level at the installation, wherever the fault level at the
installation is less than 6KA, the minimum ultimate breaking capacity of the MCB
shall be shall be 6KA as per IEC 60898 or 10KA as per IEC 60947-2.

1.6.4.13 The MCB shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without
any adverse effect on electrical performance. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side. The circuit breaker shall ensure
discrimination with the upstream MCCB in an installation. The MCB shall have a
limitation class: 3 as per IEC standards.

1.6.4.14 MCB without carrying out any modifications shall be able to receive, a
combination of wide range of auxiliaries, residual protection module, accessories
and connections devices as described and/or as specified elsewhere in this
specification.

1.6.4.15 Where applicable / specified, Residual earth leakage protection shall be provided
along with the circuit breaker. The earth leakage protection shall be can be an
additional module added to the circuit breaker or a separate earth leakage relay
or a separate earth leakage circuit breaker as applicable.

1.6.4.16 Residual earth leakage protection module wherever provided, shall be designed
to attach and fit on to the side of the MCB. Residual earth leakage protection
modules shall be available in 2pole, 3pole and 4pole versions, in current ratings
up to 100A and in sensitivities of 30, 100 & 300mA. The release shall be
available in instantaneous and selective versions. These modules shall provide
protection against indirect, direct contact and protection of electrical installations
against insulation faults. The associated breakers shall retain their properties.
For operation or reset, either the MCB and earth leakage module assembly are
reset in one operation or the earth leakage module is reset before the breaker.
The earth leakage module shall be of electromechanical device operating
without any auxiliary supply source. The module shall incorporate the residual
current relay and the toroid in the same case. The module shall be protected
against nuisance tripping due to transient over voltages. The module shall
achieve total discrimination with the upstream earth leakage protection devices.
The module shall be provided with mechanical indication on the front face by red
flag on the operating toggle. There shall be a test button on the front face of the
earth leakage module to test the earth leakage trip function. The test trip circuit
shall be electrically operated.

1.6.4.17 MCB shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of various auxiliaries
such as shunt release, under voltage release and fault trip / on off indication
switches where ever required. It shall be possible to fit all the auxiliaries on to a
MCB. All the auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted with terminal
blocks matching the MCB design and finish. All the auxiliaries shall be common
for the entire range.

1.6.4.18 Auxiliary contacts shall be provided to the circuit breaker for status indication,
wherever specified. The On/ Off contact shall indicate the position of the circuit

breaker and the Trip contact shall indicate that the circuit breaker has tripped
due to an over load and/or short circuit fault. Rated thermal current of the
indication contacts shall be at least equal to 3A at 415V AC.

1.6.4.19 Remote tripping facility shall be provided to the circuit breaker, wherever
specified. Remote tripping shall be possible by installation of voltage releases to
the circuit breaker. Releases shall be either shunt release type or under volt
release type to suit the requirement. The shunt release shall trip the breaker
when the control voltage to the release rises above 0.7 x Un and the under
voltage release shall trip the circuit breaker when the control voltage to the
release drops below 0.7 x Un, the circuit breaker re-closing shall be possible
only if the control voltage to the under volt release exceeds O.85 x Un.
When the circuit breaker is tripped by the shunt or under voltage release, it shall
be reset locally. The tripping shall take priority over manual closing. In the
presence of standing trip order, closing of the power contacts even temporarily is
not to be allowed.

1.6.2.20 MCB shall be able to receive rotary type operating handle of direct type or
extended type for ease of operation and/or for door interlock purpose.

1.6.2.21 MCB shall be able to receive a device for locking by padlock in the isolated
position. It shall not be possible to padlock the circuit breaker unless the power
contacts are open.

1.6.4.22 Front face of the MCB shall clearly print marked with manufacturer name, model
/ type, current rating, tripping curve type, voltage rating, breaking capacity and
standard to which the MCB complies with. The standard symbol / circuit diagram
of the MCB shall also be print marked on the front face.

1.6.4.23 MCB shall be provided with a permanent label to indicate the on / off positions,
which shall be print marked on each MCB toggle. Front face of MCB shall be
provided with grooves for fixing plug-in marking / identification system and the
circuit numbers shall be provided for easy identification. Label holder to fit on the
toggle of MCB shall be provided, wherever required for circuit service
description.

1.6.4.24 MCB terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the busbar system and/or to
facilitate easy termination of power cables. The MCB terminals shall be of tunnel
terminals and shall easily accept up to 16mm flexible cables up to 25A MCB
rating and up to 25mm flexible cables for 32A to 100A MCB ratings.

1.6.4.25 MCB terminals shall be provided to receive terminal shield and/or screw shield
for total isolation of device terminals, wherever applicable.

1.6.5 Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB)

1.6.5.1 Earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB) as per the current ratings, no. of poles
and sensitivity as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided.
The ELCB shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -10C
to +60C ambient and calibrated at least at 40C ambient. Wherever required

and applicable, the ELCB shall be suitably de-rated as per manufacturer

1.6.5.2 The earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards. The ELCB shall have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC,
50Hz as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.5.3 ELCB shall be modular, compact and din-rail mount design. The ELCB shall be
easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail. The ELCB shall be of
matching design with the manufacturer MCB. The ELCB shall be easily
removable from the busbar without disturbing the adjacent installed switching
devices, when installed in a busbar system. Physical dimensions and
appearance of ELCB (within its own version) shall be same for all ELCB rating
ranging from 16A to 125A for interchangeability and standardization purpose.

1.6.5.4 ELCB shall be classified and certified by the manufacturer to use in the
residential, tertiary sector and industrial sector.

1.6.5.5 ELCB shall be available in 2pole and 4pole versions, in the current ratings of
16A, 25A, 40A, 63A, 80A, 100A & 125A and in the earth leakage sensitivities of
10mA, 30mA, 100mA, 300mA & 500mA as applicable. ELCB shall be suitable for
control, isolation and automatic breaking of a circuit if an insulation fault occurs
between the phase & earth that is greater than the earth leakage trip sensitivity.

1.6.5.6 Unless specified otherwise ELCB shall be with fixed sensitivity, instantaneous
trip release. Selective type trip release shall be provided to achieve total
discrimination with the downstream devices, wherever required. The sensitivity
for protection shall be to chosen suit the application, installation and/or as per
standards.

1.6.5.7 The residual current release of ELCB shall be an electromagnetic device


operating without any auxiliary source of supply. ELCB shall be of automatic
resetting type. All poles of the ELCB shall operate simultaneously for closing,
opening and tripping. The ELCB shall be protected against nuisance tripping due
to transient over voltages.

1.6.5.8 ELCB shall be actuated by toggle. The operating toggle shall be on the first pole
of the ELCB for both 2pole and 4pole version. The isolation function shall be
certified by tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication
system, the absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity
between the upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be with
positive break indication. The number of operation cycle (0-C) of the ELCB shall
be at least equal to 20000.

1.6.5.9 There shall be a test button on the front face of the ELCB to test the earth
leakage trip function. The test trip circuit shall be electrically operated.

1.6.5.10 The ELCB shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without
any adverse effect on electrical performance. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side.

Releases shall be either shunt release type or under volt release type to suit the
requirement. The shunt release shall trip the ELCB when the control voltage to
the release rises above 0.7 x Un and the under voltage release shall trip the
ELCB when the control voltage to the release drops below 0.7 x Un, the ELCB
re-closing shall be possible only if the control voltage to the under volt release
exceeds O.85 x Un.
When the ELCB is tripped by the shunt or under voltage release, it shall be reset
locally. The tripping shall take priority over manual closing. In the presence of
standing trip order, closing of the power contacts even temporarily is not to be
allowed.

1.6.5.15 ELCB front face shall be clearly printed with the manufacturer name, model /
type, current rating, sensitivity rating, voltage rating and the standard to which
the ELCB complies with. The circuit diagram of the ELCB shall also be print
marked on the front face.

1.6.5.16 ELCB shall be provided with a permanent label to indicate the on / off positions,
which shall be print marked on the ELCB toggle There shall also be mechanical
indicator on the front face of the ELCB to indicate the residual current fault trip.

1.6.5.17 ELCB terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the busbar system and/or to
facilitate easy termination of power cables. The ELCB terminals shall be of
tunnel terminals and shall easily accept up to 35mm flexible cables.

1.6.6 Earth Leakage Relay (ELR)

1.6.6.1 Earth leakage relay (ELR) as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be
provided. The ELR shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -5C to +55C ambient. The earth leakage relay (ELR) shall comply
with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.6.2 ELR shall be modular, compact, din rail mounted design and finish. The ELR
shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to standard din rail. The ELR shall be
suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.6.3 The ELR shall be with (adjustable in discreet steps) sensitivity ranging from
0.03A to 25A. Wherever specified, ELR shall be with adjustable time delay. It
shall be possible to set the desired discreet values of sensitivity and time delays
by selectors on the relay.

1.6.6.4 The ELR shall be provided with a suitable toroidal transformer for the earth
leakage detection. The power cable shall be passed through toroidal transformer
and output of toroidal transformer shall be connected to the ELR. The toroidal
transformer shall be suitably sized to suit the cable size.

1.6.6.5 The operation of the ELR shall be such that the relay trips the associated
switching device (MCCB or MCB) when it detects a residual current above the
set residual operating current. Unless specified otherwise, tripping shall be
instantaneous. ELR shall be provided with at least one changeover output
contact. It shall be possible to test the functionality of the ELR by pressing the
test trip pushbutton and resetting the relay by reset push button on the relay.

1.6.6.6 ELR shall be electronic based circuitry encased in a ventilated compact case to
monitor the output of the toroidal transformer and provide a relay contact output
when the monitored current value exceeds the preset value.

1.6.6.7 ELR shall be protected against nuisance tripping caused by switching surges or
lightning surges. The ELR shall be capable of operating in the presence of fault
currents with DC components and ELR shall be sensitive to direct component
residual currents (Class: A).

1.6.6.8 The sensitivity & time selector, trip indication, test trip & reset pushbutton shall
be on the front face of the relay. The sensitivity and time selectors shall be
behind a hinged transparent sealable protective cover. Test and reset
pushbutton shall be accessible without opening the sealable protective cover.
Where specified, It shall be possible to reset the relay after trip from a remote
location. The ELR shall be with tunnel terminals to accept wire sizes up to
2.5mm cables

1.6.6.9 Unless specified otherwise, the ELR shall be set for 100mA sensitivity and
instantaneous trip for protecting the cables feeding the conventional loads and
protect the persons from direct & indirect contact. The ELR shall provide vertical
discrimination over a number of levels. The ELR shall be failsafe type and failure
of the detection circuit shall trip the associated circuit breaker.

1.6.7 Contactor

1.6.7.1 Contactor as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided. The
contactor shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -5C to
+55C ambient without any de-rating. The contactor shall comply with the
applicable IEC standards.

1.6.7.2 Contactor rated up to 150A (AC3 Duty) shall be compact, din rail mounted
design and finish. Contactor shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to
standard din rail. Contactor shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.7.3 Contactor rated above 150A (AC3 Duty) shall be compact, back plate mounted
design and finish. Contactor shall be easy fixing type and shall be supplied
complete with the mounting brackets.

1.6.7.4 Contactor up to 38A shall be at least rated for 690V operational voltage, 690V
insulation voltage and 6000V impulse withstand voltage. Contactor rated above
38A shall be at least rated for 1000V operational voltage, 1000V insulation
voltage and 8000V impulse withstand voltage. Contactor shall be conform to the
IEC standards for its rated making and breaking capacity. Contactor shall be
flame resistance up to 960C, shock resistance and vibration resistance as per
IEC standards.

1.6.7.5 Contactor shall be available in different current ratings and in AC1, AC3 and AC4
duty. Contactor shall be 3pole or 4pole type as per requirement. Contactor shall
be designed to carry the rated current continuously without heating. Contactor
shall be chosen considering the rated operational current, maximum possible
load current, duty, type of coordination and operation life cycles.

1.6.7.6 Contactor when used for motor protection shall be rated for AC3 duty operation
and shall be provided with suitable overload and short circuit protection.
Contactor and other protection device combination shall confirm to Type 2 co-
ordination as per IEC standards. Manufacturer shall test and guarantee the
selection of the contactor and protection device conforming to Type 2 co-

1.6.7.7 Contactor when used for lighting and heating application shall be rated for AC1
duty operation. Contactor for inching and plugging applications shall be rated for
AC4 duty.

1.6.7.8 Contactor shall be comprise of fixed magnet, coil, moving armature, fixed and
moving main pole contacts, arc shield and a base. Contactor main pole contacts
shall be of very low resistance and manufactured using an alloy of silver.
Contactor main poles material shall be provide excellent resistance to arcing and
oxidization. Contactor shall be of double break type.

1.6.7.9 Contactor coil shall be of easily replaceable type without special tools. Coil
voltage shall be easily visible from outside after fixing to the contactor. Coils shall
be available in various standard voltages and chosen as per the control voltage
requirements. Contactor coil shall be capable of operating at a voltage between
0.8 to 1.1 Uc (where Uc is the control voltage). Contactor shall drop out at a
voltage between 0.3 to 0.6 Uc. Closing time of the contactor shall be
approximately 1226ms for lower current rated contactor and 25.35ms for
higher current rated contactors. Opening time of the contactor shall be
approximately 412ms for lower current rated contactor and 2075ms for
higher current rated contactor. Mechanical durability shall be 1016millions of
operating cycles for lower current rated contactors and 4.8millions of operating
cycles for higher current rated contactor. Operating rate shall be approximately
3600 operating cycles per hour for lower current rated contactors and 1200
operating cycles per hour for higher current rated contactors.

1.6.7.10 Integral auxiliary contacts shall be available for the contactor. 1NO + 1NC shall
be available as standard for all contactor. Auxiliary contacts shall be rated at
least for 10A.

1.6.7.11 Auxiliary front add-on blocks as applicable and/or as required shall be available /
provided for the contactor. The add-on block auxiliary contacts, pneumatic timer
contacts and mechanical latch blocks shall be available for the contactor. All
add-on blocks shall be easy to fit type on front of the contactor and it shall be
possible to fit to the contactor without any special tools. The add-on block shall
be reliable and shall have the same characteristics as the integral contact.

1.6.7.12 Auxiliary side add-on blocks as applicable and/or as required shall be available /
provided for the contactor. The add-on block auxiliary contacts and mechanical
interlocks shall be available for the contactor. All add-on blocks shall be easy to
fit type on front of the contactor and it shall be possible to fit to the contactor
without any special tools. The add-on block shall be reliable and shall have the
same characteristics as the integral contact.

1.6.7.13 Contactor power terminals shall be suitable for receiving the power cable or
busbar as applicable. Control terminal shall be suitably sized to accommodate at
least 2.5sqmm cables.

1.6.7.14 Contactor provided for capacitor switching (capacitor without detuning reactors)
shall be of special contactor designed for switching capacitors. Special capacitor
switching contactors shall be fitted with a block of early make poles and damping
resistors, limiting the value of the current on closing to 60In max. The current
limitation at switch-on shall increase the life of all the components in the
installation, in particular that of the fuses and the capacitor.

1.6.7.15 Modular contactors shall be used in the distribution boards for power distribution
control applications Modular contactors are permitted only for lighting control
applications. Modular contactor shall be available in 1, 2, 3 & 4 pole versions
with current ratings up to 100A. Modular contactors shall be suitable for 250V /
415V rated operational voltage. Contactors shall be with power ON indicator to
indicate the contactor is energized.

1.6.8 Thermal over load relay

1.6.8.1 Thermal over load relay as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be
provided. Thermal over load relay shall be suitable for operating at temperature
ranging between -5C to +55C ambient without any de-rating. The thermal over
load relay shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.8.2 Thermal over load relay shall be compact and either rail mounted or back plate
mounted type or fitted directly beneath the load side terminals of the contactors.
The over load finish shall match with the contactor design. Over load relays shall
be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting. Degree of protection for the relay
shall be at least equal to IP2X. The physical dimension (width) of the relay shall
not exceed the width of the associated power contactor.

1.6.8.3 Thermal over load relays shall be designed to protect a.c. circuits and motors
against over load, phase failure, long stating times and prolonged stalling of
motor.

1.6.8.4 Thermal over load shall be bi-metallic type and shall provide high level of
protection against small or prolonged over load conditions. Thermal over load
relays shall be rated for 690V insulation voltage and 6000V impulse withstand
voltage.

1.6.8.5 Thermal over load relays shall be available in various current setting ranges to
suit the standard motor ratings. Relay shall be chosen as per the full load current
of the motor. Unless specified otherwise, tripping class for the relay shall be
class 10A; however other thermal over load relay shall be available in Class -10
& 20A. Other class of relay shall be selected, if recommended by the motor
manufacturer.

1.6.8.6 Thermal over load relay current setting shall be adjustable type. Setting shall be
adjustable by dial on the front face of the relay. Current setting selection shall be
precisely selectable by discrete position of the marked dial for the setting range.
The dial shall be with graduated scale in motor FLC; thus allowing the relay to
be set according to the full load current of the motor. The dial shall be adjustable
by a simple screw driver. The setting knobs shall be behind a lead sealable
hinged transparent cover to prevent unauthorized access.

1.6.8.7 Thermal over load relay shall be equipped with 1N/O + 1N/C auxiliary contact.
Auxiliary contacts shall be rated for at least 5Amps. Auxiliary contacts shall be
used for indication and trip functions.

1.6.8.8 Auto-manual selector cum reset button shall be available on the front face of the
relay. Selecting the selector to auto position shall allow the relay to reset
automatically after the cool down of the bi-metallic element of the relay. By
selecting the selector to manual position, it shall be possible to reset the relay
manually by pressing the reset button. The relay reset shall be effective only
after cool down of the bi-metallic element of the relay.

1.6.8.9 Thermal over load relay shall be equipped with a stop button. Pressing the stop
button shall actuate the N/C contact and shall not affect the N/O contact. Stop
button shall be lockable by fitting a special clip.

1.6.8.10 Thermal over load relay shall be equipped with a trip indicator. The trip indicator
shall be red flag integral to the relay. Relay fault trip condition is indicated by this
mechanical flag type indicator.

1.6.8.11 Thermal over load relay shall be equipped with a test button. The test button
shall be accessible only with a screw driver. Pressing the test button simulates
tripping of relay and shall actuate both the N/C and N/O contact. It shall also
actuate the trip indicator.

1.6.8.12 Electronic type over load relay shall be provided for all motor ratings exceeding
140A and the features of the relay shall be same as the thermal over load relay
except the bimetal element shall be replaced by an power electronic circuit.

1.6.8.13 External manual reset facility shall be provided, wherever required. External
reset shall be a push button operated cable type (mechanical) reset or a lever
operated type (mechanical) reset as applicable.

1.6.8.14 Where required, relays shall be provided with a wide range of connection and
installation accessories. It shall be possible to convert the contactor mounted
over load relay as independent back plate mounted relay.

1.6.9 Protective Relays

Motor Protection Relay

1.6.9.1 Electronic motor protection relay as shown on the drawings and/or as required
shall be provided. Electronic motor protection relay shall be suitable for operating
at temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. Motor protection relay
shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.9.2 Motor protection relay shall be of compact design and either rail mounted or
back plate mounted type. Motor protection relay shall be suitable for horizontal or
vertical mounting. Degree of protection for the relay shall be at least equal to
IP2X.

1.6.9.3 Electronic motor protection relay shall be electronic type, multifunction protection
and intelligence combined relay. Motor protection relay shall be designed for
motor control protection, control, communication and monitoring.

1.6.9.4 Motor protection relay shall be protect motors against thermal over loads,
machine over heating, phase imbalance and/or failure, earth fault, under load,
long starting time, over torque and/or stalled rotor, reversal of phase rotation, too
low power factor.

1.6.9.5 Motor protection relay shall be one model for all range of motors. Relay shall be
direct operated or CT operated type for current rating up to 25A and all other
rating shall be CT operated type. CT ratio shall be either 1A or 5A secondary
type. It shall be possible to set the protective current setting ranges to suit the
motor ratings. Unless specified otherwise, tripping class for the relay shall be set
for class 10; however, it shall be possible to set the relay for other tripping
classes such as Class -10A, 15, 20, 25 & 30A. Other class of relay shall be
selected, if recommended by the motor manufacturer.

1.6.9.6 Motor protection relay shall be with terminal connectors for connection of either
motor & contactor power cables directly on the relay or current transformer
secondary wires on the relay. Plug-in connector type terminals shall be available
for monitoring protection inputs and separate plug-in type connector for outputs
for contactor coil, thermal alarm and fault signaling. Another plug-in connector
type terminal shall be available for ground fault current transformer wires and
PTC thermistor probe wires.

1.6.9.7 Motor protection relay front face shall be with two rotary dial for selection of
motor full load current from 20% to 109% of the maximum rated current of the
relay. Dip switches or other means shall be available for selection of bus

1.6.9.10 Motor protection relay front face shall also be with 7-segment display or LEDs for
fault indication, Test trip push button and a manual Reset push button. When
7-segment relay is provided, the fault code and fault description shall be clearly
print marked on the relay front face. Where LEDs are used, each fault shall be
with individual LED indication and print marked clear label description.

1.6.9.11 Motor protection relay shall be with a sealable transparent cover for eliminating
the unauthorized access and tampering with local front cover settings.

1.6.9.12 Motor protection relay shall be capable of protecting the motor, performing
and/or supporting at least the following functions (Documents in printed manual
or catalogue form shall be submitted along with the proposal for supporting the
compliance for each function listed below).:
- Thermal protection of motor
- Thermal monitoring and protection of motor using built-in PTC probes
- Phase imbalance and phase failure protection
- Earth fault protection
- Protracted starting time
- Under load protection
- Torque limitation with function inactive at starting
- Cos monitoring & tripping
- Phase rotation monitoring
- Voltage shedding
- Short circuit detection
- Motor control
- Reset

1.6.9.13 Motor protection relay basic settings shall be adjustable directly on the relay,
whereas the advanced setting shall be accessible via serial link communication.
Relay shall support bus communication such as Jbus/Modbus or UNI-TELWAY
bus for receiving configuration parameters, and exchange information. A serial
interface shall enable RS232 or RS485 connection as required. It shall be
possible to communicate between the relay and a PC running under Microsoft
Windows.

1.6.9.14 Motor protection relay shall be supplied with a suitable toroidal transformer for
earth fault detection. The size of the toroid shall suit the used cables sizes.

1.6.9.15 Motor protection relay shall support various starting method and starter wiring
and shall be wired as per manufacturer recommendations to suit the application.

Thermistor Protection Relay

1.6.9.16 Thermistor protection relay as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall
be provided. Thermistor protection relay shall be suitable for operating at
temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. Thermistor protection relay
shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.9.17 Thermistor protection relay shall be of compact design and din rail mounted type.
Thermistor protection relay shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.
Degree of protection for the relay shall be at least equal to IP2X.

1.6.9.18 Thermistor protection relay shall be suitable for use with PTC probes. Thermistor
protection relay shall continuously monitor the temperature of the motor or
generators to be protected by means be of PTC thermistor probes embedded in
the machine winding. If the normal operating temperature of the probes is
reached, they shall convert the rapid increase in resistance in to a switching
function, which shall be wired to switch of the machine and signal a fault.
Accidental breaks in the supply circuits of thermistor shall also be detected. The
relay shall be of auto reset type.

Voltage Monitoring Relay

1.6.9.19 Voltage monitoring relay (Under and/or Over Voltage relay) as shown on the
drawings and/or as required shall be provided. Voltage relay shall be shall be
suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient.
Thermistor protection relay shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.9.20 Voltage relay shall be of compact design and din rail mounted type. Voltage
relay shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting. Degree of protection for
the relay shall be at least equal to IP2X.

1.6.9.21 Voltage relay shall be suitable for monitoring the machine voltage without use of
any other auxiliary transformers. Voltage relay shall continuously monitor the
voltage of supply from/to the machines to be protected. If the normal operating
voltage of the relay exceeds the preset voltage limits, which shall be
independently adjustable for under and over voltage functions, it shall convert it
in to a switching function, which shall be wired to switch of the machine and/or
signal a fault. Phase loss and phase reversal in the supply circuits shall also be
detected. The relay shall be of auto reset type.

1.6.10 Electronic Soft Starter

1.6.10.1 Electronic soft starter as per the current ratings, motor power as shown on the
drawings and/or as required shall be provided. Soft starter shall be suitable for
operating at temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. Where the
soft starter current rating is rated at 40C ambient, the soft starter shall be de-
rated suitably for the 50C ambient. For de-rating between +40C and +60C, the
nominal current of the soft starter shall be de-rated by at least 2% per C above
40C. Soft starter shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.10.2 Soft starter shall be of Soft start Soft stop unit type. Soft starter shall be a
controller with 6 thyristors which is used for the torque-controlled soft starting
without any external feedback and soft stopping of three-phase squirrel cage
asynchronous motor. Soft starter shall offer soft starting and deceleration
functions along with machine and motor protection functions as well as
communicating with control systems.

1.6.10.3 Soft starter shall be capable of reducing the stress placed on the electrical
distribution system by reducing the current peaks and voltage drops during

motor starts. Soft starter shall reduce the mechanical stress of the machines /
motors and increase their availability.

1.6.10.4 Soft starter construction shall be of compact design, robust, easy to set up and
safe. Soft starter power electronics and control electronics shall be fully enclosed
in suitable reinforced polyester and/or sheet steel casing. The casing shall
provide separation and insulation between internal electronics and the operators
on the soft starter front face. Protective cover shall be fitted to the power
terminals. Soft starter shall have protection on the front panel and on the sides.
Soft starter line supply terminals shall be available at the top and motor terminals
shall be at the bottom side of the soft starter. Soft starter shall be suitable for at
least Level 3 ambient pollution as per IEC standards. Soft starter shall be CE
marked in accordance with the harmonized standard (EN/IEC standards).

1.6.10.5 Soft starter shall fully comply with the requirements of Electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) as per applicable IEC standards. Test certificates shall be
provided to prove the immunity tests carried out. Immunity tests shall at least
include electrostatic charge, radiated electromagnetic fields, rapid electrical
transients, shock wave and damped oscillating waves. Radiated and conducted
emissions shall be at least Class A for all starter ratings as per IEC standards.

1.6.10.6 Soft starter shall be vibration and shock resistance conforming to IEC standards.
Soft starter noise level shall not exceed 60dBA. Soft starter rated up to 25A
shall be of natural convection cooling type and starter rating above 25A shall be
of forced ventilation type. Cooling fans integral to the soft starter unit shall be
provided for forced ventilation purpose. The fans shall be activated automatically
when a temperature threshold is reached, which shall be sensed by a built-in
temperature element installed on the power thyristor.

1.6.10.7 Soft starter shall be available to suit main supply of either three phase supply
voltage ranging between, 230V -15% to 415V + 10%, 50/60Hz and/or three
phase supply voltage ranging between, 208V -15% to 690V +10%, 50/60Hz as
per the motor voltage and/or as required. Unless specified otherwise, soft starter
shall be programmed / set to operate on 415V, 3phase, 50Hz AC supply. Control
supply to the starter shall be to suit 240V, 1phase, 50/60Hz, AC supply. The
maximum control circuit power consumption (with fans operating) shall not
exceed 30 ~ 80Watts. Soft starter shall be of AC-53a operating category.

1.6.10.8 Soft starter shall be suitable for connecting either on the supply line or on the
motor delta terminals. Soft starter shall be available in different rating at least
ranging from 17A and up to 1200A (from 7.5KW and up to 630KW). Unless
specified otherwise, soft starter shall be supplied suitable for connecting to the
motor supply line.

1.6.10.9 Soft starter shall be available corresponding to all standard size of motor rating
at least up to 630KW at specified ambient conditions. Soft starter shall be
selected on the basis of line supply voltage, power & nominal current indicated
on the motor name plate, type of operating cycle (standard or severe application)
and starter operating ambient temperature (De-rate soft starter as per ambient
conditions). Soft starter model / type reference shall be categorized and
tabulated by the manufacturer for specifying the model for standard and severe
application. Such categorization and tabulation with model / type reference shall
be available in the form of printed catalogue and submitted to the consultant for
verification of suitability of the chosen soft starter for the application.

1.6.10.10 Standard or severe applications shall define the limiting values of the current and
the cycles for motor duties S1 and S4. S1 motor duty corresponds to starting
followed by operation at constant load enabling the thermal equilibrium to be
reached. S4 motor duty corresponds to a cycle comprising starting, operation at
constant load and an idle period. The cycle is characterized by a load factor of
50%.

1.6.10.11 Soft starter proposal shall be supported by printed catalogue with all type
reference and selection guide lines listed, for the right choice of selection for the
application. Additional supporting document and/or letter of confirmation from the
manufacturer of soft starter shall be provided, where required.

1.6.10.12 Soft starter shall be of compact size, simplify the design of switchboards and
standardize the installation of devices. Terminal connection of the soft starter
shall to suit the power ratings and the cables sizes. Physical dimensions of the
soft starter shall be at least standardized as per current rating as given below:
- Soft starter rated up to 50A to be same size
- Soft starter rated above 50A and up to 110A to be same size
- Soft starter rated above 110A and up to 170A to be same size
- Soft starter rated above 170A and up to 320A to be same size
- Soft starter rated above 320A and up to 660A to be same size
- Soft starter rated above 660A and up to 1200A to be same size

1.6.10.13 Soft starter shall comprise of a control module mounted on a power supply
assembly. Local or online communication options complete the product.

A single control module for all power ratings and voltages shall perform the
following functions:
- Firing the thyristors
- Calculating the operating conditions
- Recording the thermal state of the motor and soft starter
- Monitoring the power supply
- Controlling all outputs
- Providing display by 7-segment display
- Enabling functions to be selected
- Supplying the control circuit

Soft starter shall be factory preset for majority of application and it shall be
possible to switch on without further adjustments being made. However it shall
be possible to modify the configuration, adjustment and monitoring functions, by
using the integrated display adjustment option or by a remote display adjustment
option or communication option (by PLC or PC). Unless specified otherwise,
remote display adjustment option shall be provided for each soft starter unit and
display unit shall be mounted on the cubicle front door.

Power assembly shall include 3 pairs of thyristors mounted back to back with
their protective circuits and the current measurement transformer. Power
assembly shall also include the fan and its safety circuits as applicable.

1.6.10.14 Soft starter shall be self adjustment type and factory set for most of the
applications. Integral display adjustment and/or remote display an/or
communication option shall be provided for setting up the special functions which

are not preset, adjustment of the thermal overload protection, display of status
and parameter.

Dialogue and recall of settings shall be possible to be accessed, either locally via
integral display adjustment option on the unit and/or remote display dialogue
option on the panel door and/or via a PC link. After accessing the settings and
performing the operations, it shall be possible to either unplug the remote
dialogue-display unit from the starter or locked in order to be able to use the
coded display.

The PC connection shall also enable settings to be saved to disk or hard disk
and to be successively downloaded to any number of soft starters. The
communication option shall use protocol such as Modbus as standard. Ethernet,
Fipio, Device net and Profibus DP network communication options shall also be
available and provided as required.

1.6.10.15 Soft starter shall be equipped with a microprocessor-controlled surveillance


system, which shall continuously calculate the temperature rise of motor based
on the nominal current set by the user and the actual current.
Soft starter shall be with integrated protection of the motor against over loads.
Soft starter shall calculate the over load time according to the starting current
and based on the motor manufacturer data for the period during which the motor
will withstand 7.2 times its nominal current.
Soft starter shall be supplied with Class 10 protection, but shall be possible to
adapt for other starting classes (10A, 15, 20, 25, 30). An early warning signal
shall indicate that the motor has exceeded its nominal temperature rise
threshold. This information shall be saved even after a break in power supply.
After a stoppage due to a thermal fault, the control circuit shall prevent restarting
if the temperature of the motor remains too high.
Soft starter shall be with integrated line protection against phase failure.

1.6.10.16 Soft starter shall be capable of performing and/or supporting at least the
following functions:
Drive performance functions:
- Torque control
- Constant control of the torque of the torque supplied to the motor during
acceleration and deceleration period
- Facility for adjusting the ramp and the starting torque
- Starter By pass function at the end of starting
- Wide frequency tolerance for generator set power supplies
- Possibility to connect to the motor delta terminals in series with each
winding
Machine and motor protection functions:
- Built-in motor thermal protection
- Processing of information from PTC thermal probes
- Monitoring of the starting time

1.6.10.17 Soft starter current settings adjustment to include the nominal motor current In
adjustment, which shall be at least adjustable from 0.4 to 1.3 times the starter
nominal current. Adjustment of the maximum starting current shall be at least
adjustable from 1.5 to 7 times the motor In, limited to 5 times the starter nominal
current.

1.6.10.18 Soft starter starting mode shall be by torque control and shall not be
conventional current limitation or voltage ramp. Torque control shall be applied
on the motor during the entire starting phase with the starter current limited to 5
In maximum. It shall be possible to set the soft starter to obtain a high torque on
starting for a rapid motor speed rise whilst limiting its temperature rise, and a
lower accelerating torque at the end of starting for gradual loading.

1.6.10.19 Soft starter stopping mode shall be either freewheel stop or controlled stop or
braked stop. Controlled stop (torque control) shall be programmable between 1.0
and 60S and braked stop shall be controlled dynamically by flux.

1.6.10.20 Analogue output shall be configurable current output either as 0-20mA or 4-


20mA. Atleast 4 logic inputs and 3 relay outputs shall be available, of which
atleast 2 relay outputs, 2 logic outputs and 2 logic inputs shall be configurable
type.

1.6.11.21 Soft starter shall be capable of performing and/or supporting at least the below
listed functions (Documents in printed manual or catalogue form shall be
submitted along with the proposal for supporting the compliance for each
function listed below). It shall be possible to do all recall settings, perform the
operations and adjustments, monitor the parameters and status using a dialogue
display unit or via a PC link.

1.6.11.22 Soft starter shall be capable of performing and/or supporting the application
monitoring functions and shall provide the following information on the display,
when scrolled (Documents in printed manual or catalogue form shall be
submitted along with the proposal for supporting the compliance for each
function listed below):
- Cosine
- Motor thermal state
- Motor current
- Operating time
- Active power
- Motor torque
- Starter states (starter power supplied, run, acceleration / deceleration in
progress, steady state operation, braking in progress, starter in current

1.6.10.23 Unless specified otherwise, Soft starter combination with the circuit breaker,
contactors and fast acting fuses shall be suitable for Type 2 coordination as per
IEC standards.

The component selection such as the circuit breaker, contactor, etc. for the
starter combination shall be provided by the manufacturer in the form of printed
catalogue as per the tests carried out for every rating of the starter combination.
Test certificates from manufacturer to prove the correct selection of components
and compliance to Type 2 coordination (as per the test carried out by
manufacturer) shall be provided, wherever required.
All components such as circuit breaker, contactor, line chokes and soft starter for
the starter combination shall be from the same manufacturer or from their group
companies. Different manufacturers for circuit breaker, contactor and soft starter
will not be permitted.

1.6.10.24 Unless specified otherwise, Soft starter shall be provided with a by-pass
contactor to bypass the soft starter at the end of the starting period whilst
maintaining electronic protection (bypass function).

1.6.10.25 Power factor correction capacitor (if any) shall be installed to the upstream of the
soft starter and only powered up at the end of starting. Capacitor at the load side
of the soft starter will not be permitted.

1.6.10.26 Wiring for soft starter combination shall be carried out as per the manufacturer
recommendations and drawings. Unless specified otherwise, each starter must
be earthed separately.

1.6.10.27 Soft starter shall be capable of supporting cascaded motors of identical or


different ratings. Soft starters shall also be capable of starting identical or
different motors connected in parallel. Unless specified otherwise, each motor
shall be provided with its own soft starter unit.

1.6.10.28 Soft starter shall be capable of operating a Dahlander motor (2-speed motor) or
brush motor.

1.6.10.29 Soft starters installed inside the wall fixing or floor standing enclosure shall be
mounted leaving sufficient free space to ensure that the air required for cooling
purposes can circulate form the bottom to the top of the unit. Soft starter shall
not be placed close to or above heating elements. Ventilation by forced
ventilation with a fan and/or filter shall be provided to circulate the air inside the
enclosure in order to avoid hot spots. The ventilation opening and/or fans must
provide a flow rate at least equal to that of the starter fan. Special filters shall be
used. Manufacturer recommendation for installation shall be strictly adhered.

1.6.11 Electronic Variable Frequency Drive

1.6.11.1 Electronic Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) as per the current ratings, motor
power as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided. Variable
frequency drive shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -
5C to +55C ambient. Where the VFD current rating is rated at 40C ambient,
the VFD shall be de-rated suitably for the 50C ambient. For de-rating between
+40C and +60C, the nominal current of the variable frequency drive shall be
de-rated by at least 2.2% per C above 40C. Variable frequency drive shall
comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.11.2 VFD shall be of pulse width modulation invertors (PWM) type. The motor shall be
supplied by a voltage wave of variable amplitude and frequency. Each half-wave
comprises a series of pulses with fixed amplitude and variable width.

1.6.11.3 VFD power circuits shall be made up of thyristors, diodes and/or transistors. VFD
shall basically comprise a fixed AC/DC converter made up of a thyristors and/or
diodes filter composed of a capacitor bank and a DC/AC convertor (a thyristor
commutator and an extinction circuit) with pulse width modulation. The inverter
stage shall be built up of IGBTs and intelligent power modules (IPMs) depending
on the current ratings of the VFD. VFD with ordinary bipolar transistors at the
output stage shall not be accepted. The PWM sine wave commutator shall be
made up of 6 transistors and 6 free wheeling diodes. The inverter bridge shall be
designed to provide the motor with a three-phase AC voltage supply with
variable amplitude and frequency. The frequency variation of the voltage applied
to the motor is obtained by varying the frequency of the control signals of
transistor. Special transistors signal shall be provided to eliminate the lower
range harmonics and the torque ripple. The resulting current of the inverter shall
be close to sine wave. The principle of voltage variation shall consist of
modulating each basic peak so that on each peak a voltage can be obtained
which is on average lower than the filtered DC voltage.

1.6.11.4 VFD shall be a frequency inverter for three-phase asynchronous motors powered
by a three-phase supply (360V -10% to 460V +10%). VFD shall perform starting
and soft stopping of three-phase squirrel cage asynchronous motor. VFD shall
offer starting, speed control by varying frequency and deceleration functions
along with machine and motor protection functions as well as communicating
with control systems.

1.6.11.5 VFD shall be capable of reducing the stress placed on the electrical distribution
system by reducing the current peaks and voltage drops during motor starts.
VFD shall reduce the mechanical stress of the machines / motors and increase
their availability.

1.6.11.6 VFD construction shall be of compact design, robust, easy to set up and safe.
VFD power electronics and control electronics shall be fully enclosed in suitable
reinforced polyester and/or sheet steel casing. The casing shall provide
separation and insulation between internal electronics and the operators on the
VFD front face. Protective cover shall be fitted to the power terminals. VFD shall
have protection on the front panel and on the sides. VFD shall be suitable for at
least Level 2 ambient pollution as per IEC standards. VFD shall be CE marked in
accordance with the harmonized standard (EN/IEC standards) and shall be
designed to meet the requirements of EMC directives.

1.6.11.7 VFD shall fully comply with the requirements of Electromagnetic compatibility
(EMC) as per applicable IEC standards. Test certificates shall be provided to
prove the immunity tests carried out. Drives shall conform to IEC standards and
the recommendations relating to electrical industrial control devices. EMC
Immunity tests and EMC, radiated & conducted emissions shall be as per IEC
standards. Radiated and conducted emissions shall be at least Class A for VFD
with built-in radio interference filters and Class B for VFD with additional filters
standards.

1.6.11.8 VFD shall be vibration and shock resistance conforming to IEC standards. VFD
shall be of natural convection cooling type and an additional ventilation fan kit
from the VFD manufacturer shall be fitted on the drive to circulate air around the
electronic cards and prevents hot spots from forming, where recommended by
the manufacturer. The fans shall be powered by the VFD.

1.6.11.9 VFD shall be available to suit main supply of three phase supply voltage ranging
between 380V -10% to 460V + 10%, 50Hz 5% or 60Hz 5% and as per the
motor voltage and/or as required. Unless specified otherwise, VFD shall be
programmed / set to operate on 415V, 3phase, 50Hz AC supply.

1.6.11.10 VFD shall be suitable for connecting to the main supply line with or without line
contactor. VFD shall be suitable for accepting the contactor on the line side or on
the load side of the VFD as per the requirements. Unless specified otherwise,
contactor for each VFD on the line side.

1.6.11.11 VFD shall be available in different rating at least ranging from 2.1A and up to
564A (from 0.75KW and up to 315KW). VFD shall be available corresponding to
all standard size of motor rating at least up to 315KW at specified ambient
conditions. VFD shall be selected on the basis of line supply voltage, power &
nominal current indicated on the motor name plate, type of operating cycle and
drive operating ambient temperature (De-rate VFD as per ambient conditions).

1.6.11.12 VFD transient over torque shall be 110% of nominal motor torque for 60sec for
standard torque application and 150% for high torque application as applicable.

1.6.11.13 VFD proposal shall be supported by printed catalogue with all type reference and
selection guide lines listed, for the right choice of selection for the application.
Additional supporting document and/or letter of confirmation from the
manufacturer of VFD shall be provided, where required.

1.6.11.14 VFD shall be of compact size, simplify the design of switchboards and
standardize the installation of devices. Terminal connection of the VFD shall to
suit the power ratings and the cables sizes. Physical dimensions of the VFD
shall be standardized as per current ratings.

1.6.11.15 VFD shall comprise of a control module mounted on a power supply assembly.
Local or on line communication options complete the product.

A single control module for all power ratings and voltages shall perform the
following functions:
- Firing the thyristors
- Calculating the operating conditions
- Recording the thermal state of the motor and VFD
- Monitoring the power supply
- Controlling all outputs
- Providing display and accept controls from the operator terminal
- Enabling functions to be selected
- Supplying the control circuit

VFD shall be factory preset for majority of application (at least for pumping and
ventilation applications) and it shall be possible to switch on without further
adjustments being made. However it shall be possible to modify the

configuration, adjustment and monitoring functions, by using the operator


terminal option or by a remote display adjustment option or communication

1.6.11.16 VFD shall be self adjustment type and factory set for most of the applications.
Operator terminal (for display & adjustment) or remote operator terminal and/or
communication option shall be provided for setting up the special functions which
are not preset, adjustment of the thermal overload protection, display of status
and parameter.

Dialogue and recall of settings shall be possible to be accessed, either locally via
operator terminal on the unit or remote operator terminal on the panel door
and/or via a PC link. After accessing the settings and performing the operations,
it shall be possible to unplug the remote dialogue-display unit from the VFD.

The PC connection shall also enable settings to be saved to disk or hard disk
and to be successively downloaded to any number of VFDs. The communication
option shall use protocol such as Modbus as standard. Ethernet, Fipio, Device
net, Modbus Plus, Uni-Teleway, Interbus-S, AS-I, Lonworks, Metasys N2 and
Profibus DP network communication options shall also be available and provided
as required.

1.6.11.17 VFD operator terminal shall be removable type designed to fit in to a designated
slot on the front panel of the drive. The operator terminal shall also be suitable
for mounting remotely on the enclosure door and connected to the unit by prefab
cable. Display shall be backlit LCD type with 4 character alphanumeric display.
Designated keys for controlling the drive from the operator terminal shall be
available. Keys shall be available for navigation of the programming menus,
configuring and adjusting the parameters of drive. The operator terminal shall
perform the following functions:
- To control, adjust and configure the drive
- For visible remote signaling
- To save and download configurations
(shall be possible to save at least 4 files)

1.6.11.18 VFD shall be equipped with a microprocessor-controlled surveillance system,


which shall continuously monitor the theoretical temperature rise of motor based
on the current drawn by the motor, the operation frequency, the operating time
and the maximum ambient temperature around the motor. VFD shall be with
integrated protection functions for the motor against over loads & over currents
in continuous operation, protection against loss of phase, PTC thermal probe,
machine mechanical protection (where required) and protection via multiple fault
management and configurable alarms.
Thermal protection of the VFD shall be achieved by a thermistor fitted on the
heat sink ensuring that components are protected in the event of poor ventilation
or excessive ambient temperature. In the event of thermal fault, the drive locks
automatically and to be reset manually.
VFD shall also be with integrated protection and safety of the drive against the
following:
- Short circuit protection (between output phases, output phases and
earth, on internal supply outputs)
- Thermal protection against excessive overheating and over currents
- Mains under voltage and over voltage safety circuits

input as standard. Analogue current input shall be suitable for 0~20mA and
analogue voltage input shall be suitable for 0~10V as standard. Sampling time of
analogue inputs shall not exceed 4ms.

1.6.11.22 VFD shall provide at least 1no.analogue output of 0~20mA as standard.


Analogue output shall be reassignable for X-YmA by programming X and Y with
a precision of 0.1mA. Sampling time of analogue outputs shall not exceed 2ms.

1.6.11.23 VFD shall be with at least 2 logic outputs (relay) as standard. At least one of the
relay out put shall be assignable. Contacts of the relay out put shall be either
C/O or N/O type. The contacts shall be internally protected against over
voltages. Switching capacity of contact shall be at least 5A resistive at 240V AC
or 30V DC.

1.6.11.24 VFD shall be with RS485 multidrop serial link with modbus protocol integrated in
to the drive.

1.6.11.25 Unless specified otherwise, VFD starter combination with the circuit breaker, line
contactor and down stream contactors shall be suitable for Type 2 coordination
as per IEC standards.
The component selection such as the circuit breaker, contactor, etc. for the
starter combination shall be provided by the manufacturer in the form of printed
catalogue as per the tests carried out for every rating of the starter combination.
Test certificates from manufacturer to prove the correct selection of components

1.6.11.26 VFD rated up to 75Kw shall be equipped with built-in line chokes which shall limit
the line current to the value of the nominal current of the motor. External line
chokes shall be provided for VFD rated more than 75KW for improved protection
against over voltages on the line supply and to reduce harmonic distortion of the
current produced by the drive. Line chokes shall be supplied from the same
manufacturer as the VFD. Line chokes shall be installed between the line
contactor and the VFD. Line chokes shall be provided wherever recommended
by the manufacturer and/or as required. Line chokes shall be provided in
particular under the following circumstances:
- Line supply with significant interference and over voltage from other
equipment.
- Line supply with voltage imbalance between phases >1.8% of nominal
voltage
- Line with very low impedance (in the vicinity of power transformers 10times
more powerful than the drive rating)
- Large number of frequency convertors on the same line in order to reduce
the line current.
- Use of power factor correction unit or capacitors

1.6.11.27 VFD rated up to 75Kw shall be equipped with built-in radio interference filters to
meet EMC product standards. VFD rated above 75KW shall be provided with
separate filter external to the VFD as per manufacturer recommendations.
Additional input filters shall be installed on the line supply, upstream of the drive,
if the surrounding environment is subject to electromagnetic interference and
radio-electric frequencies above 150kHz. Additional filters shall also be provided
as recommended by the manufacturer line considering the length of the motor
cable. Filters shall be supplied from the same manufacturer as the VFD.

1.6.11.28 Output filters and motor chokes shall be provided, wherever required.

1.6.11.29 Chokes and filters shall be standard catalogue product from the VFD
manufacturer. Different manufacturer for choke / filter and VFD will not be
permitted. External choke and filters selection shall be supported by
manufacturer catalogue and the choice of components shall endorsed by the
manufacturer. Choke and filter shall be installed strictly respecting the
manufacturer recommendations.

1.6.11.30 Power factor correction capacitor (if any) shall be installed to the upstream of the
soft starter and only powered up at the end of starting.

1.6.11.31 VFD shall have options to extend I/O points by adding an I/O extension card.
VFD shall also have options to include special application cards such as pump
switching card, multi-motor card, multi-parameter card and positioning card for
simple applications. Such options shall be included as applicable.

1.6.11.32 VFD shall have optional cards to support various communication buses such as
Fipio, Modbus Plus, Uni-Teleway, Interbus-s, Profibus DP, Ethernet etc. Optional
communication card shall be included as applicable.

1.6.10.30 Wiring for VFD shall be carried out as per the manufacturer recommendations
and drawings. Unless specified otherwise, each starter must be earthed
separately.

1.6.10.31 VFD shall be capable of starting identical or different motors connected in

1.6.12 Starter Assemblies

1.6.12.1 Starter assemblies as per the motor power, starter current rating, starting current
and start type as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided.
Starter assemblies shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -5C to +55C ambient. Where the starter component rating is rated at
40C ambient, the components shall be de-rated suitably for the 50C ambient
as per manufacturers recommendations.

1.6.12.2 This Starter Assemblies specification shall be read in conjunction with the
respective Motor Control Centre or Starter panel specification.

1.6.12.3 Unless specified otherwise, the start method and starter type shall be as given
below:
- Motors rated up to 5KW shall be Direct on line (D.O.L) type starter
- Motors rated above 5KW and up to 37KW shall be with Star-Delta (/)
type starter
- Motors rated above 37KW shall be either with Electronic Soft Starter or
Variable Frequency Drive starter, as per the application requirements.

The choice for use of either soft start unit or variable frequency drive shall be as
shown on the drawings; however it shall be the responsibility of the contractor to
provide the right start method for the application, without any extra cost to the
client.

The Local Electricity Authority regulation must be fully complied for the motor
start method and specific approvals for the start method for the motors shall be
obtained from the Local Electricity Authority prior to construction of starter panels
or motor control centers.

1.6.12.4 Circuits supplying motor and/or starter assemblies shall fully comply with the
general rules set in IEC standards and in particular with those concerning
contactors, motor starters and their protection as stipulated in IEC standards.

1.6.12.5 In addition to various aspects such as starting current, nominal current, voltage
etc., the following shall be taken in to consideration for the design and selection
of components for starter assemblies:

1.6.12.6 Unless specified otherwise, the starter assembly comprising of circuit breaker,
contactors, over load relay and/or electronic drive unit (soft starter or variable
frequency drive) shall comply with the TYPE 2 coordination requirements as per
IEC standards.
As per TYPE 2 coordination requirements of IEC standards; after an over load or
short circuit fault, the components shall remain intact without any damage to the
components of starter assembly, injury to the personnel and without any need of
component replacement (including fuses). Only minor welding of contactor or
starter contact is permissible and the contacts must be easily separable. After an
over load and/or short circuit fault the switchgear and control gear functions must
be fully operational.

1.6.12.7 Unless specified / approved otherwise, all power and control components for
starter assembly such as circuit breaker, contactors, over load relay and/or
electronic drive unit (soft starter or variable frequency drive), control relays, push
buttons, selector switches and indication lamps shall be from one approved
manufacturer or from their group companies only. Different manufacturer for the
various components of starter assembly will not be permitted.

1.6.12.8 The component selection such as the circuit breaker, contactor, etc. for the
starter combination shall be provided by the manufacturer in the form of printed
catalogue as per the tests carried out for every rating of the starter combination
and starter types including the soft starter and variable frequency drive starter
assemblies.

1.6.12.9 Type test certificates and certificate of conformity from the manufacturer for
compliance with Type 2 coordination (as per the test carried out by
manufacturer) shall be provided, wherever required.

1.6.12.10 Direct On Line Starter Assemblies (D.O.L Starter)

Direct on line (D.O.L) starter assemblies shall at least consist of, but not limited
to the following:
- Moulded case circuit breaker with door interlocked operating handle (or)

1.6.13 Control Relays

1.6.13.1 Control relays shall be provided as shown on the drawings and/or as required for
control, switching, process and logic requirements. Relays shall be suitable for
operating at temperature ranging between -5C to +50C ambient. Relays shall
comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.13.2 Control relays shall be compact, din rail mounted design and finish matching the
contactors. Control relays shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to standard
din rail. Contactor shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.13.3 Control relay shall be rated for 690V insulation voltage and 660V operation
voltage. Control relay shall be suitable for short time rating of 100A for 1sec and
rated making capacity of 140A AC or 250V DC Irms. Control relays shall be
shock resistance and vibration resistance as per IEC standards.

1.6.13.4 Control relay shall be with at least 4nos. instantaneous contacts and available in
different combinations of normally open and normally closed contacts. Control

relay contacts shall be designed to carry at least 10A continuously without


heating. Control relay terminal shall be suitably sized to accommodate at least
2.5sqmm cables. Control relay shall be chosen considering the combination of
contacts, operating voltage, control voltage and operation life cycles.

1.6.13.5 Control relay shall be comprise of fixed magnet, coil, moving armature, fixed and
moving contacts and a base. Control relay contacts shall be of very low
resistance and manufactured using an alloy of silver. Control relay contact
material shall provide excellent resistance to arcing and oxidization. Control relay
shall be of double break type.

1.6.13.6 Control relay coil shall be of easily replaceable type without special tools. Coil
voltage shall be easily visible from outside after fixing to the control relay. Coils
shall be available in various standard voltages and chosen as per the control
voltage requirements. Control relay coil shall be capable of operating at a
voltage between 0.8 to 1.1 Uc (where Uc is the control voltage). Control relay
shall drop out at a voltage between 0.3 to 0.6 Uc. Closing time and opening time
of the control relay shall be approximately between 622ms. Mechanical
durability shall be at least 20millions of operating cycles. Operating rate shall be
approximately 3 operating cycles per second. Non-overlap time between N/C
and N/O contacts shall be at least 1.5ms.

1.6.13.7 Auxiliary front add-on blocks shall be available for the control relay. The add-on
block auxiliary contacts, pneumatic timer contacts and mechanical latch blocks
shall be available for the control relay. All add-on blocks shall be easy to fit type
on front of the control relay and it shall be possible to fit to the control relay
without any special tools. The add-on block shall be reliable and shall have the
same characteristics as the control relay contact.

1.6.13.8 Auxiliary side add-on blocks shall be available for the control relay. The add-on
block auxiliary contacts shall be available for the control relay. All add-on blocks
shall be easy to fit type on front of the control relay and it shall be possible to fit
to the control without any special tools. The add-on block shall be reliable and
shall have the same characteristics as the control relay contact.

1.6.13.9 Mechanical latch add-on blocks and compact electronic serial timers shall be
available and provided (where applicable) for the control relay. The add-on
blocks shall be easy to fit type on the control relay and it shall be possible to fit to
the control without any special tools.

1.6.13.10 Alternatively, Plug-in type control relays may be used. Plug-in type relays shall
be compact and din rail mounted type. Relay base shall be with screw
terminations and with a clip type legend plate. Relay shall be with mechanical
indicator showing contact position. Relay shall also be with a spring return
pushbutton, enabling the contacts to be forced manually. Relay output contact
material shall be hard silver and gold flashed. Each relay shall be atleast with
4C/O contacts.

1.6.13.11 Control relays shall be supplied from the same manufacturer as the contactor
and timers. Different manufacturer for control relays, timers and/or contactors will
not be permitted.

1.6.14 Impulse Relay

1.6.14.1 Impulse relay as per the current ratings and no. of poles as shown on the
drawings and/or as required shall be provided. Impulse relay shall be suitable for
operating at temperature ranging between -10C to +50C ambient.

1.3.14.2 Impulse relay shall comply with the applicable IEC standards. Impulse relay shall
have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC, 50Hz as defined by IEC
standards.

1.6.14.3 Impulse relay shall be modular, compact and din rail mounted design. Impulse
relay shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail. The MCB
shall be easily removable without disturbing the adjacent installed MCB or other
components when installed in a distribution system. Physical dimensions and
appearance of impulse relay (within its own version and model) shall be same for
all impulse relay rating for interchangeability and standardization purpose.
Impulse relay shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.14.4 Impulse relay shall be available in 1pole, 2pole, 3pole, 4pole versions and in the
current ratings of 16A & 32A. Unless specified otherwise, impulse relay shall be
suitable for remote control of circuits via impulse signals. Impulse relay shall be
available to suit different control voltage as shall be chosen to suit the
requirement and application. Unless specified otherwise, impulse relay coil shall
be isolated by auxiliary switch of the impulse relay.

1.6.14.5 Impulse relay shall be actuated by toggle on the front face manually or by
impulse electrical control. The switching frequency shall be atleast 5 operations
per minute. Mechanical indication for the impulse relay shall be by the toggle on
the front face. Electrical endurance of the impulse relay shall be atleast 200000
AC22 cycles. Noise level of the relay shall not exceed 60dBA (at 1metre).

1.6.14.6 Impulse relay without carrying out any modifications shall be able to receive, a
combination of wide range of auxiliaries such as time delay, auxiliary switch etc.
to meet the control logic requirements.

1.6.14.7 Front face of the impulse relay shall clearly print marked with manufacturer
name, model / type, current rating and voltage rating. The circuit diagram of the
impulse relay shall also be print marked on the front face.

1.6.14.8 Front face of impulse relay shall be provided with grooves for fixing plug-in
marking / identification system and the circuit numbers shall be provided for easy
identification.

1.6.14.9 Impulse relay terminals shall be designed to facilitate easy termination of power
cables. Impulse relay terminals shall be of tunnel terminals and shall easily
accept atleast up to 6mm cables.

1.6.14.10 Impulse relays for power distribution circuits shall be supplied from the same
manufacturer as the MCB. Different manufacturer for MCB and/or impulse relay
will not be permitted.

1.6.15 Timers

1.6.15.1 Electronic timers shall be provided as shown on the drawings and/or as required
for process and control logic requirements. Timers shall be suitable for operating
at temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. Timers shall comply
with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.15.2 Timers shall be compact & modular type and din rail mounted design. Timers
shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to standard din rail. Timers shall be
suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.15.3 Timer shall be rated for 300V insulation voltage and operating voltage of 250V.
Timers shall be shock resistance and vibration resistance as per standards.

1.6.15.4 Unless specified other wise, timers shall be electronic type with adjustable timing
range. Timing range shall be adjustable by knobs on the front face of the relay.
Clear & legible labels shall be available for the time dial. It shall be possible to
set the timing precisely without need of any special tools or devices. Timers shall
be available in wide range of timing and the timer timing range shall be chosen
as per the logic requirements.

1.6.15.5 LED indication shall be available on the front face for the power, which shall
remain ON during the time delay period. Screw terminals shall be available for
the connections. Timer terminals shall easily accept up to 2 x 1.5sqmm cables.
Timer shall perform satisfactorily under specified conditions without any special
installation precautions.

1.6.15.6 Timer shall be either ON delay or OFF delay or cyclic type of timer as per the
requirements and shall be available in various control voltage. Timers shall be
capable of operating at least between 0.8 to 1.1Uc.

1.6.15.7 Timer shall have potential free relay contact output (at least 1C/O) or series type
of timers which shall be directly wired in series with the contactor or control
relays. The contacts shall be capable of carrying at least 4A resistive load.
Mechanical durability shall be at least 30million operating cycles. Closing time of
the control contact shall be less than or equal to 40ms.

1.6.15.8 Timer shall be with clip type tag for reference marking as per the drawings. Tags
shall be on the front face of the relay. Timers shall be print marked for reference
as per the drawings.

1.6.15.9 Timers shall be supplied from the same manufacturer as the contactor and
control relays. Different manufacturer for timers, relays and/or contactors will not
be permitted.

1.6.16 Time switch & Light sensitive switch

Time switch

1.6.16.1 Time switch shall be provided as shown on the drawings and/or as required for
control logic requirements. Time switch shall be suitable for operating at

shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical mounting. Timer shall be rated for
operating voltage of 230V - 240V AC 50Hz.

1.6.16.3 Unless specified other wise, time switch shall be mechanical type with a quartz
time base with spring reserve for 150Hrs. Time switch shall switch ON and OFF
automatically according to a predetermined programme by means of riders fixed
on the dial. Accuracy of the time switch shall be to the level of 1second per day,
not cumulative. Time switch shall be available in different type such as 60mins
time switch, 24hr. time switch, 7days time switch etc. and shall be chosen as per
the requirement.

1.6.16.4 Sealable, transparent and hinged front cover shall be available for the time
switch to avoid unintentional access to the time switch dial. Screw terminals shall
be available for the connections. Time switch terminals shall easily accept up to
6sqmm cables. Time switch shall perform satisfactorily under specified
conditions without any special installation precautions.

1.6.16.5 Timer shall have potential free relay contact output (at least 1C/O). The contacts
shall be capable of carrying at least 10A resistive load. Time switch shall be with
an integral manual over ride switch on the front face.

1.6.16.6 Unless specified otherwise, time switch shall be used with a suitably rated
contactor for power distribution control application.

Light sensitive switch

1.6.16.7 Light sensitive switch shall be provided as shown on the drawings and/or as
required for control logic requirements. Light sensitive switch shall be suitable for
operating at temperature ranging between -10C to +50C ambient. Light
sensitive switch shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.16.8 Light sensitive switch shall be compact & modular type and din rail mounted
design. Light sensitive switch shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to
standard din rail. Light sensitive switch shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical
mounting. Light sensitive switch shall be rated for operating voltage of 230V -
240V AC 50Hz.

1.6.16.9 Unless specified other wise, light sensitive switch shall be supplied with an
remote photo-cell sensor. Photo-cell sensor shall be weather proof type with an
ingress protection of IP54 and supplied with a mounting bracket.

1.6.16.10 Light sensitive switch shall be with 2adjustable brightness thresholds. The
brightness threshold shall be selectable and adjustable between 2~35 lux or
35~2000 lux. Light sensitive switch shall switch ON and OFF automatically

according to luminosity sensed by the photocell and when the set brightness

1.6.16.11 Transparent and hinged front cover shall be available for the light sensitive
switch to avoid unintentional access to the setting dial. Screw terminals shall be
available for the connections. Light sensitive switch terminals shall easily accept
up to 6sqmm cables. Light sensitive switch shall perform satisfactorily under
specified conditions without any special installation precautions.

1.6.16.12 Light sensitive switch shall have potential free relay contact output (at least
1C/O). The contacts shall be capable of carrying at least 10A resistive load. LED
indication shall be available on the front face of the relay, which shall be ON
when the brightness threshold is reached.

1.6.16.13 Unless specified otherwise, light sensitive switch shall be used with a suitably
rated contactor for power distribution control application.

1.6.17 Programmable Logic Controller

1.6.17.1 Programmable logic controller (PLC) shall be provided as shown on the


drawings and/or as required as part of motor control center. Programmable logic
controller shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between 0C to
+60C ambient. Programmable logic controllers shall comply with the applicable
IEC standards.

1.6.17.2 The PLC system shall be of simple, user configurable, modular construction and
designed to operate in an industrial environment. PLC shall comprise a central
processing unit, communication modules, power supply, I/O cards and PLC rack.
Where specified and/or required the PLC shall be of dual redundant hot standby
type. In event of active PLC module failure, changeover to the standby module
shall be bumbles.

1.6.17.3 The PLC shall have a built-in facility to protect the memory contents in case of
complete power loss. The scan time shall be fast enough so that no delay in
command initialization shall occur. The effective scan time shall not be more
than 1msec. Where the process requires scan time less than 1msec, the same
shall be provided.

1.6.17.4 Calculation shall be submitted for review to verify the scan time and the
changeover time, which shall be to the approval of the consultant engineer.

1.6.17.5 The PLC shall control, monitor, sequence and protect the process sequence and
the installation in all modes of operation. The manual mode shall be not be PLC
dependant.

1.6.17.6 The PLC input/output cards and communication modules shall be assembled on
a multi slot rack designed specifically to accommodate various combinations of
the I/O cards and other modules. The slot shall be of expandable type for future
extension without any major modifications to the system rack. The PLC system
rack shall have a integral power supply module to suit the system requirements.

1.6.17.7 Each I/O panel shall house power supply card operated from 240V, 50Hz
source. The integral power supply unit shall feed I/O cards and communication
modules with the designed voltage. The power supply shall be immune to RML,
sags, spikes and surges.

1.6.17.8 Where applicable and/or required, integral fan modules shall be provided to
ensure a forced air convection, to create a uniform ambient temperature within
the enclosure and eliminate the hot spots.

1.6.17.9 Digital input / output cards & Analogue input / output cards shall be provided as
required to complete the system.

1.6.17.10 Digital input modules shall contain 16 to 32 opto-isolated channels and operates
on interrogation voltage of 24VDC with minimum 2KV isolation.

1.6.17.11 The digital output modules shall contain 8 to 16 volt free contact channels with
switch capability of up to 240V AC 5A or 24V DC 5A.

1.6.17.12 Digital input and output modules shall provide LED status indication for each
channel on the module front. All connection to the card shall be through the
screw terminal on the front panel of the card.

1.6.17.13 Analogue input and output modules shall contain 8 to 16 channels each
electrically isolated. The signal standard shall be 4~20mA with minimum 12bit
A/D converter and high tolerance input shunts components to give an overall
accuracy of 0.5% over full range. To further ensure accuracy, all analogue and
digital cabling shall be screened twisted pair multi-core cables with the over all
screen earthed at the PLC end.
Every measuring loop shall be fused separately. All the closed loop control shall
also be individually fused. External cable terminals shall be provided with test
sockets and shall have facilities for signals isolation.

1.6.17.14 Special modules such as counter modules, etc. shall be provided as applicable
and/or as required.

1.6.17.15 The PLC shall be integrated with the operator dialogue terminal to display and
adjust the process parameters. It shall be possible to enter parameters for timers
and process values as applicable.

1.6.17.16 Prefabricated cables and dedicated relay boards, terminal connection sub bases
shall be provided to facilitate direct wiring of field cables to the sub base terminal
blocks, where applicable and/or required. In such cases the cards shall be
suitable for accommodating the interfacing cables from the sub base modules.

1.6.17.17 The PLC system shall provide facility to connect to a printer or other external
devices for data logging. The PLC system shall also be suitable for
communicating with other systems (if any) like DCS or SCADA systems in the
installation.

1.6.17.18 Spare I/O points shall be at least 20% of the total count for Digital cards (on each
card) and 10% of the total count for Analogue cards (on each card).

1.6.17.19 PLC programming method shall permit entering of instruction by laptop


computer. The programming language shall be one of the well recognized and
approved languages used by most of the leading PLC manufacturers. The laptop
computer shall be interfaced to the PLC CPU card by a suitable cable on line
without any process interruption. The software shall also be capable of full PLC
module diagnostic with user friendly approach.

1.6.17.20 Laptop computer, original and certified PLC programming / diagnostic &
Windows software, and the application program shall be provided, where
required. Laptop computer shall be of reputed / approved brand and at least with
Pentium IV 1.6Ghz processor, 14 TFT Screen, DVD ROM and 20GB hard disk.

1.6.17.21 The PLC shall be supplied fully programmed and tested as per the design
functions and complete in all aspects. The application program shall be tested at
works as per the pre-approved test procedure.

1.6.17.22 Testing and commissioning of PLC system at site shall be carried out by the
specialist PLC engineer in the presence of the consultant and/or client engineer
as per the pre-approved testing commissioning procedure.

1.6.17.23 Final documentation for PLC shall include all operating and maintenance
manuals / instructions, application program in hard & soft copy, programming
software with complete manuals.

1.6.18 Operator Dialogue Terminal

1.6.18.1 Operator dialogue terminals shall be provided with the programmable logic
controller (where used) as shown on the drawings and/or as required as part of
motor control center. Operator dialogue terminal shall be suitable for operating at
temperature ranging between 0C to +55C ambient. Operator terminals shall
comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.18.2 Operator dialogue terminal shall flush mounted on front of the panel. Enclosure
shall be constructed from polyphenyl oxyde (10% Glass fibre) material. Front
panel key pad shall be from anti-UV treated toughened polyester material.
Degree of protection for the operator dialogue terminal shall be at least IP65.

1.6.18.3 Operator dialogue terminal shall suitable for communication, logging, message
representation, graphical representation, signaling, remote operator interface.
Operator dialogue terminal shall be selected depending upon the requirement.
Operator dialogue terminal shall include function keys, service keys, numeric
and/or alpha numeric keys, touch screen (if applicable) and alpha numeric
display or graphical display at front of the panel. Operator dialogue terminal shall
be selected depending upon the requirement.

1.6.18.4 Operator dialogue terminal for simple application without any major process
control shall be with alphanumeric screen, which shall be used to represent
messages and variables. Operator dialogue terminal shall have function keys,
service keys, numeric or alphanumeric keys as per the requirement and the keys

as required. Indication LED (at least 10nos.) and a buzzer shall be available as
part of the terminal. Function, service and alpha numeric keys as required for the
application (including future provisions) shall be available. Display shall be of
back-lit LCD type.

1.6.18.5 Operator dialogue terminal for application with process control shall be with
graphical display screen with 10.4TFT LCD screens in color (256 color) with key
pad and/or touch-sensitive screen. Graphic screens shall be specially designed
for operator dialogue functions. Operator dialogue terminal shall have function
keys, service keys, numeric or alphanumeric keys as per the requirement and
the keys shall be used to modify variables, control the device or browse in a
dialogue application. Graphic display terminals shall be with indication LED (at
least 10nos.). Function (dynamic and static keys), service and alpha numeric
keys as required for the application (including future provisions) shall be
available. Display shall be with 640 x 480 pixels resolution.

1.6.18.6 Configuring the graphic screen operator dialogue terminals shall be possible a
supporting software in a Windows environment. Supporting software shall
provide graphic operator terminal with a library of animated graphic objects such
as bar charts, gauges, selectors, potentiometers and trending curves. A library of
bitmap symbol shall also be available in the software. It shall be possible to store
the application program for the graphic operator dialogue terminal to store on a
PCMCIA memory card.

1.6.18.7 Operator dialogue terminal shall be capable of communicating with PLC via an
integrated point to point or multi drop serial link or via a field bus with a type III
PCMCIA card. The communications protocol shall be either Modbus or
equivalent protocols.

1.6.18.8 PLC connection shall be by a 25-way female SUB-D connector, serial port and
printer / configuration PC shall be connected by a 9-way male SUB-D connector.
Power supply and alarm connections shall be by plug-in or screw terminals.

1.6.18.9 Alphanumeric and matrix operator dialogue terminal shall be with 256 Kb Flash
EPROM, 400application pages approximately (at least 25lines per page), 256
alarm pages (at least 25lines per page) and capability of storing alarm pages.
Printer port and alarm log options shall be provided, wherever required.

1.6.18.10 Graphical operator dialogue terminal shall be with an operating system, 2.5MB
dynamic RAM memory and 4MB application memory. Dialogue application shall
include up to 300 application, alarm (above 500 alarms), help, 16 real time
curves, forms (above 250 forms) and recipe (above 100) pages as required.

1.6.18.11 Development software shall run on PCs compatible with Windows 95 or higher
versions or Windows NT operating system. Applications created using software
shall be independent of the protocol used. It shall be possible to use the same
operator dialogue application with all the different PLCs offered by the main
market suppliers.

1.6.18.12 Development software shall be used to create various types of pages such as
interlinked application pages, alarm pages, help pages, recipe pages, etc.
Software shall contain all sorts of variables and graphic objects, which shall be
either pre-defined in the software or created using other applications and then
imported (bitmap format, etc.). It shall be possible to assign various properties
such as min-max limits, color, movement, etc. Software shall be support to
configure the function keys to activate commands on the terminal or call
application pages. It shall be possible to import the PLC symbol data base on the
graphic terminals.

1.6.18.13 Development software shall support simulating all the operator dialogue
applications form the design office without the use of graphical terminals and
PLCs. It shall be possible to test using a PC and simulation programs, the
various functions such as display of variables, entry of variables, navigation
between pages and simulation of alarms.

1.6.18.14 PC, PLC, printer connecting cables and development software with complete
manuals shall be supplied with the operator dialogue terminal.

1.6.18.15 Operator dialogue terminal shall support and work on most of the re-known
communication buses and network such as AS-i, Modbus plus, Fipio,
Fiopio/Fipway, etc.

1.6.18.16 Operator dialogue terminal shall support and work with most of the re-known
downloadable protocols such as Modbus, Jbus, Uni-Teleway, DF1, DH485,
SNPX, Sysmacway, PPI, MPI, AS511 etc.

1.6.19 Pushbutton & Selector switch

1.6.19.1 Pushbutton and selector switch as shown on the drawings and/or as required
shall be provided. Push button and selector switch shall be suitable for operating
at temperature ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. Pushbutton and selector
switch shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.19.2 Push button and selector switch shall of matching design to indicating lamp
arranged for single hole fixing and of small body size to allow close grouping.
Degree of protection (of front face) of the push button shall be at least IP65. All
terminals shall be of screw type. Push buttons shall be of different color as per
their function and in compliance with applicable IEC standard.

1.6.19.3 Contact block of N/O and/or N/C type shall be clipped on to the pushbutton and
selector switch, as required. It shall be possible to add on many number of
contact block at the back of the push button unit and the selector switch. The
maximum number of contact block shall not exceed four, above which auxiliary
contact multiplication relays shall be provided. The contact rating of the N/O and
N/C blocks shall be rated at least 6A.

1.6.19.4 Engraved legend plates shall be fitted with all push buttons and selector
switches. The engraved legend plates shall be made from special flexible pvc
sheet or traffolyte sheet. The minimum characters height on the engraved legend
sheet shall be 3mm. The text shall be black color on a white background.

1.6.20 Indicating lamp

1.6.20.1 Indication lamp as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided.
Indication lamps shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between
-5C to +55C ambient. Indication lamps shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards.

1.6.20.2 Indicating lamps shall of matching design to push buttons, arranged for single
hole fixing and of small body size to allow close grouping. Degree of protection
(of front face) of the indication lamps shall be at least IP65. All terminals shall be
of screw type. Indicating lamps shall be of protected LED type to operate directly
on the control supply to provide long bulb life. LED block for the lamps shall be
integral protected type.

1.6.20.3 Indicating lamps shall be rated to withstand not less than 10% continuous over
voltage and shall be rated to ensure long life. Lamps shall well be ventilated and
the design shall permit removal lamp glass and bulbs from the front of the unit or
easy replacement if the LED block from the rear of the unit.

1.6.20.4 Indicating lamps shall have double insulated shallow bezels which incorporate
plastic lenses of the specified color. The color of the lenses shall be as per the
specific function and in compliance with applicable IEC standard.

1.6.20.5 Engraved legend plates shall be fitted with all indicating lamps. The engraved
legend plates shall be made from special flexible pvc sheet or traffolyte sheet.
The minimum characters height on the engraved legend sheet shall be 3mm.
The text shall be black color on a white background.

1.6.21 Terminal blocks

1.6.21.1 Terminal blocks shall be provided for all power and control connections as
applicable. Terminal blocks shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -5C to +55C ambient. Terminal blocks shall comply with the
applicable IEC standards.

1.6.21.2 Terminal blocks shall be appropriate for the cable sizes. Terminal blocks shall be
of beige colour, moulded anti cracking type, clipped on to a common C-rail or din
rail. Terminal blocks shall be grouped according to the working voltage, power
circuits and control circuits. Terminals which are energized with mains supply,
shall be suitably shrouded and indicated. White ferrules shall be provided on
each terminal for terminal identification according to the wiring diagrams.
Approximately 5 ~ 10% spare terminal shall be provided on each group of
terminal block.

1.6.22 Metering equipments

Current transformer

1.6.22.1 Current transformer as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be


provided. Current transformer shall be suitable for operating at temperature

ranging between -5C to +55C ambient. The current transformer shall comply
with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.22.2 Current transformer shall be compact and either busbar mounted or back plate
mounted type. Current transformer shall be suitable for horizontal or vertical
mounting. Current transformer construction shall be cases of self extinguishing
poly carbonate and include sealable terminal cover made of poly carbonate.

1.6.22.3 Current transformers shall be designed to carryout the metering and/or


protection functions. Current transformer shall at least meet the following
characteristics:
- Rated secondary current: 5A
- Rated insulation level: 3KV, 50Hz during 1 minute.
- Rated continuous thermal current: 1.2 times rated current.
- Rated short time thermal current: 60 times rated current
- Rated dynamic current: 2.5 times rated short time thermal current
- Thermal class of insulation: E (120oC) according to IEC standards

1.6.22.4 The secondary wiring of the current transformer shall be provided with a special
C.T shorting terminal, where required and/or applicable.

Meters

1.6.22.5 Indicating and integrating meters as shown on the drawings and/or as required
shall be provided. Meters shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging
between -5C to +55C ambient. The meters shall comply with the applicable
IEC standards.

1.6.22.6 Indicating meters shall be in a case of steel sheet with base of self extinguishing
thermoplastic. Scales shall be clearly marked with black lettering and
graduations on a white back ground. Instruments of same type and range shall
have identical scales and of interchangeable type. The size of the instruments
shall be of at least 72sq (mm) min. Accuracy class of the indicating meters shall
be 1.5 according to IEC standards.

Ammeters & voltmeters

1.6.22.7 The ammeters and voltmeters shall be of at least 72sq (mm), 90deg. scale,
moving iron type with silicone oil damping or a tough platinum ribbon shall
suspend the moving element. Pivot suspension with spring loaded jewel
bearings for vibration and shock resistance. Meters shall at least meet the
following characteristics:
- Over load capacity for ammeter: 1.2 times nominal current continuously
and 10 times nominal current for 5secs.

- Over load capacity for voltmeter: 1.2 times nominal voltage continuously

- Test voltage: 2kV, 50Hz during 1minute according to IEC standards.
- Response time: Approximately 1second.
- Damping time: Approximately less than 3seconds.

KWH meter

1.6.22.8 KWH meter as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be provided.
KWH meter shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -5C
to +55C ambient. The meters shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.22.9 KWH meter shall be integrating type. The type, ratio and the make shall be as
per the requirements of local electricity authority.

Digital Power meter

1.6.22.10 Digital power meter as shown on the drawings and/or as required shall be
provided. Meters shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between
-5C to +55C ambient. The meters shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards.

1.6.22.11 Digital power meter shall be of at least 96sq (mm) size, simple & compact
design, microprocessor based and power monitoring unit type with digital
display. Power meter shall be suitable for measuring true RMS at least up to the
31st harmonic on three-phase (3p, 3p + N), two phase and single-phase AC
systems.

1.6.22.12 Power meter degree of protection shall be with min. IP40 rating on the front face
and shall be at least suitable for pollution degree 2. Power meter shall be fully
comply with the requirements of Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as per
applicable IEC standards

1.6.22.13 Power meter shall provide all measurement capabilities required to monitor an
electrical installation in a single unit. The power meter shall be fully upgradeable
and can be equipped with optional modules including input / output modules on
site at any time to meet new needs.

1.6.22.14 Power meter shall atleast be of Energy Class 1 as defined in IEC standards and
suitable for sub metering and cost allocation applications. Energy meter shall
also be suitable for panel power instrumentation and remote transmission of the
measured electrical parameters.

1.6.22.14 Power meter display shall be of back lit LCD type with integrated bar charts and
display at least 5 measurements at a time for fast readings. Navigation and/or
parameter view selection buttons shall be available on the front face of the
power meter to enable viewing of parameter on the LCD display. Upon selection,
the power meter shall at least display the following parameters as standard:

- Measurement accuracy : Min. 0.5% of reading for current and voltage;
Min. 0.1% for frequency;
Min. 1% for energy & power measurements;
- Data update rate : 1sec

1.6.22.16 Power unit shall be suitable for a continuous input current overload of 2.4In and
capable of handling up to 1.5Un (where In is the nominal current and Un is the
nominal voltage).

1.6.22.17 RS485 communication port shall support Modbus protocol. The communication
shall be suitable for 2 wire, up to 38400 bauds, Modbus RTU.

1.6.22.17 Power meter shall have facility to include pulsed output for energy metering,
alarm modules for various parameters, relay outputs for alarm and control
functions and assignable analogue output module for measured parameters, as
applicable.
