I’ve often said that learning and working are becoming the
same thing in our hyper-connected workplaces. As a free-agent
there are great opportunities to integrate work and learning
and that is by thinking of marketing as education, both for
you and your clients. Since a one-person business doesn’t
have separate marketing and training departments, there’s no
need to worry about any turf wars. Marketing is the same as

Marketing and education have certain similarities – gaining
attention; getting your message across; and changing
behaviour. Much of our learning is through conversations with
others, as is marketing, or as the Cluetrain Manifesto states in
