Preface
Since the overseas Chinese education is important for our
overseas descendants to inherit the Chinese culture, the OCAC
(Overseas Chinese Affairs Council) has dedicated numerous
educational resources and invited scholars from Taiwan
and overseas to develop the Chinese learning materials for all
levels of learners, and it has received recognition from the
worldwide overseas schools. We all know that e-learning is

so to achieve Chinese education through the advanced network

technology is becoming our major task in overseas Chinese
education. In recent years, the OCAC has been continually
working on combining information technology into Chinese
education to produce more vivid and versatile learning materials
to make Chinese learning more fun and interesting.

The OCAC has published the Bi-Weekly papers since

1985 to promote the learning of Chinese language, history, art,
and culture. After the online version has been launched in 1999,
it has not only become one of the most favorable materials
for self-studying, but also the best reading materials to learn
about Chinese culture. The Intermediate Chinese section is
supervised by Ms. Ya-Hsun Tsai, head of the Applied Chinese
Language and Literature Department, National Taiwan Normal
University. Ms. Tsai prompted to improve the communication
skills for intermediate learners, and she also designed numbers of
practical materials and tools including style box animation and
repetition soundtracks. These tools have proven its effectiveness
in stimulating learners interests in Chinese learning.

The Intermediate Chinese extracted from the Bi-Weekly

papers is expected to be an enriched teaching material for
teachers overseas. The contents are modified from the 2009
section. It is designed carefully for teachers, hoping to strengthen
the communication skills of students while introducing twelve
interesting topics of Taiwan, such as rock & roll, Taiwan
international food exhibition, charity bazaar, hot springs and
