Everyone probably knows that plants need sunlight to grow. How does this work, you may ask?

It happens threw photosynthesis,

which is the wonderful way plants make food. This is how plants need the right intensity, time ,and spectrum of light to germinate.

The first thing needed for plants to strive, is the right intensity. According to the article What light for plants written by Aresia

Watson, the right intensity can be said to be the amount of light received. Most light bulbs we use do not produce enough sunlight for

indoor plants. Some plants may need 150-1000 foot candles of light. The intensity can be measured with a tool called the foot-candle.

This special tool is sold at local garden stores and can also be purchased online. Because of the intensity needed for plants to be grown

indoors, the right amount of sunlight is needed. For example, if there is a garden, it gets watered everyday, and Gods sun gives it

light ,the garden grows. This same process occurs with plants.
The second thing needed for plants to grow is the right time received for the plant. All plants need to receive a direct amount of

sunlight, just as people do. The time of sunlight is important, because the plant does not need to germinate to long or short .Many

plants need 8-10 hours of light ,others may need 14 hours or more each day. If you did grow plant outside, then you would not have to

worry about light, because God can and will provide just enough light for his creation. It is our job to do the watering and digging.

The last thing needed for plants to grow is the spectrum of light. Often ,all white lights are made up of all colors. Light rays

hitting a plant may look like regular light, but plants know which two main colors are the one for its red and blue. These two colors

are taken by the chlorophyll pigments in the leaves of the plant. Some plants may be limited in the amount of blue wavelengths, this is

because they receive limited production in their foliage, while plants in the red light may be limited in their ability to produce flowers.

Does the color spectrum of light affect how plants grow? It is a possible problem to investigate. The hypothesis is Brassica rapa

will grow taller under a daylight bulb than under a cool light bulb.
