Catawba Teen Center Parental Handbook

The staff at the Catawba Teen Center are very excited and eager to begin working
with your youth this school year. As many know, we have broken away from the
Boys and Girls Club of York County. With this change, we have created new
opportunities for our youth. We have also seen a restructuring of staff
assignments. They are as follows:

Mrs. Denise- Site Coordinator- She will make sure that all site needs are met,
communicate with guardians about any changes to site policies/closing, and address
any youth behavioral concerns to guardians.

Mr. Brandon- Program Coordinator- He will make sure that youth are providing
with opportunities to grow in four major areas. These include education, healthy
lifestyles, leadership/character, and cultural.

Mr. Matt- Youth Development Professional- He will make sure that youth are
provided opportunities to interact in a safe, fun environment. He will also be
leading programs along with Mrs. Denise and Mr. Brandon.

We wanted to make you aware of site-specific policies that the staff will be using
to ensure that youth have a safe, fun, and enriching this school year. Please take a
few moments to review these with your youth.
1. Cell Phones
a. We understand that there are times that your youth may need to contact someone
for various reasons. Staff have the right to ask all youth to put away cell phones at
any point of the day. If there is a special circumstance, the youth/guardian must
notify the staff. If a youth is using a cell phone after being asked to put away
electronics, the staff have the right to take the phone and return to guardian when
youth is picked up. A behavior log will also be recorded.
2. Personal Belongings
a. Our site is constantly on the move. The site is not responsible for any personal items
brought by youth.
3. Participation
a. All youth are expected to participate with all programs and activities implemented
by staff. It is important that youth approach activities and programs with an open
and positive attitude. If a youth refuses participate, they will be encouraged by
staff to join in, however, staff have the right to record refusal in a behavior log.
b. Any questions about what the programs should brought to Program Coordinator.
4. One and Done Policy
a. The staff will be using a One and Done policy with all youth. After the 2 nd incident
of a youth receiving a behavior log, the Site Coordinator will suspend the youth for
one day. The youth will receive a two days suspension for the next log and three
days for the next log. After serving a three day suspension, the Site Coordinator
the right to terminate youth membership from site. The Site Coordinator may by-
pass this procedure if they feel a behavior warrants further consequences.
5. Longhouse Expectations
a. All youth are expected to treat property and equipment with respect while on
location. Youth are expected to stay within the area that our group is located. Due
to this building being an office space, youth are expected to: maintain appropriate
noise level, not wonder around the building, and be respectful of all
equipment/people.
6. Staff Expectations for Youth
a. The staff will expect that all youth be respectful to all other youth and staff. The
staff also expect that all youth participate in programs and activities. Youth are
expected to stay with the group and treat all areas with respect. If a youth is not
meeting an expectation established by staff, a behavior log will be recorded and
their guardian will be notified when youth is picked up.
b. Any issues regarding the handling of discipline should be brought to the Site
Coordinator.
7. Hours of Operation
a. The site is opened Monday- Thursday, 4:00pm-8:00pm. And Friday 4:00pm- 6:00pm
b. We will be following the Rock Hill School District Calendar including closings for
weather.
c. Any additional closings will be communicated with you by the Site Coordinator
8. Schedule/ Pick Up
a. The youth must be signed out by a guardian or person listed as person authorized to
pick up youth. If staff does not recognize a person attempting to pick up a youth,
the staff will ask the person to present ID to match name with authorized person.
If the person is not listed, the youth will not be released.
b. A schedule for the week will be beside the sign out sheet along with any important
handouts. Please look through these papers as they may have information of changes
or upcoming events.

Thank you all for your support this school year. If you have any questions during the summer, feel
free to contact the Site Coordinator or Program Coordinator. We are excited for the opportunity
to work with your youth this school year!
