Cell Processes

Part 2
Phenomenon: A Sequoia tree grows from small shoot to
tree that is almost 300 ft tall

Group
1. Formulate questions as to how a small sequoia sapling can grow into a tree
that is almost 300 ft tall.
2. Research the concepts of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
3. Formulate a model of the two processes and how the mechanism they
create makes plant growth.
Individual
4. Write an explanation as to how the Sequoia sapling uses photosynthesis
and cellular respiration to grow into the giant Sequoia trees that we see in the
pictures. Explain how the processes are opposite processes and how they
compliment each other to enable plant growth. Be sure to explain the formulas
for both processes. Tell which occurs in plant cells, animal cells, and/or in both
types of cells. Add citations from your research to help with your argument. Use
the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning

Phenomenon: A Sequoia tree grows from small shoot to
tree that is almost 300 ft tall
1. Create your model of the process of photosynthesis and cellular
respiration. 2 people in your group should work on one model
and 2 people on the other model.
2. Begin writing your final essay in google classroom.
3. You need to research the Claim Evidence Reasoning framework
as well as some sentence starters that will help you fulfill the
requirements of the assignment.

Phenomenon: A cut on my skin
closes and the skin is healed.
Group
1. Formulate questions as to how the body heals itself internally after it is
cut or scraped.
2. Construct an explanation as to how (mechanism) that causes the
healing of cuts and scrapes
3. Draw a model of the skin healing itself and the process that the cells
and their organelles undergo at a microscopic level to heal the cut.

Individual
4. Write an explanation as to how skin heals after it has been injured.
Include the stages of mitosis and what the organelles are doing in each
stage. Give as much information as possible to show you understand the
mechanism that causes skin to heal. Add citations from your research to
help with your argument. Use the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning
(CER)framework for this answer.
