GENERAL PRINCIPES

These documents are a suggestions for users to establish written procedures for inspection, maintenance and repair
of each item of equipment or may utilize the written recommendations from the equipment manufacturer.
If manufacturer program is incomplete for any item, the user should develop inspection, maintenance and repair
procedures including utilizing applicable API recommended practices and specifications.

User can found more information of inspection program on API or IADC rules.
The following rules are some references for information:
API RP 9B
API RP 54
API 4F

PERSONNEL QUALIFICATIONS

Inspection, maintenance and repair procedures should be carried out by a person who, by possession of a recog-
nized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or who by knowledge, training, or experience, has successfully
demonstrated the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to hte subject matter, the work or the subject. Inspectors
should be familiar with the type of equipment to be evaluated.

TYPE OF CONTROL ( FREQUENCY) TYPE OF CONTROLLER

WEEKLY Rig personnel during operations

MONTHLY Rig personnel during operations

3 MONTHS Rig personnel and personnel with adeguate knowledge of rigs

6 MONTHS Individual must possess adeguate knowledge and experience in the

inspection criteria. Typical persones qualified to supervise the inspection
could be an engineer, NDT technician, ASNT Technician.

inspection criteria. Typical persones qualified to supervise the inspection
could be an engineer, NDT technician, ASNT Technician.
2 YEARS Individual with adeguate experience and knoledge

5 YEARS Individual must possess adeguate knowledge and experience in the

inspection criteria. Typical persones qualified to supervise the inspection
could be an engineer, NDT technician, ASNT Technician.

INSPECTION

The equipment is to be disassembled and cleaned to the extent necessary to conduct NDT of all defined critical
areas. An ultrasonic thickness test is recomended on all tubular style ( or closed style) members to test for internal
corrosion.
All foreign material such as dirt, paint, grease, oil, scale, etc. shall be removed from the cencerned parts by a suitable
method ( e.g. paint-stripping, steam-cleaning, girt-blasting)
All welds should be visually examined. All welds of in critical area should be inspected using magnetic particle (MT)
or liquid penetrant (PT) method. An alternative is to utilize ultrasonic test.

IMPORTANT
When clean some component (e.g. cardan, shaft, sheave, etc.), after its important to greasing its

IMPORTANT
In the absence of assembly drawing and/or critical area drawings, all area of primary load carrying compo-
nents shall be considered critical. This data shall be used by the inspector to adapt the inspection procedure.
In addition, the users may provide the history of repair, if available.

IMPORTANT
The following inspection program is an suggestion for inspection of rig. The prevention of damage or breaks
is a care of operators that they work on rig.
Checks of the following documents are minimum for rig inspection, to improve checks is a care of custo-
mer

IMPORTANT
For the greasing and oil lubrication routine maintenance see Use and Maintenance.

WARNING
With these suggestions users should be made a complete inspection before ( if anticipated) and after criti-
cal jobs (e.g, running heavy casing, strings, jarring, pulling on stuck pipes and/or operating at extreme low
temperature)

FREQUENCY OF CHECKS

The user of the equipment should be develop his own schedule of inspections based on experience, manufactures
recommendations, and consideration of one or more of the following factors:
- environment
- load cycles
- regulatory requirements
- operating time
- testing
- repairs
- remanufactured

RECORD OF CHECKS

The users shall mantain an equipment file containing pertinent informationregarding the equipment. The equipment
file should include the following:

- documentation delivered by the manufactured

- documentation estabilished by the user during the life of the equipment

Records of inspections shall be entered in the equipment file as well as any load test data related to or indicating the
load- carrying capacity of the equipment.

Entries describing repair, remanufacture and testing activities shall be included in the user equipment file.
Records shall indicate:

significant defects ( type, dimension ) reported on a drawing

location and extent of repairs
NDT methods and results
primary-load-carryng components replaced or remanufactured
the date and the name of the responsible person(s) involved in the inspection, maintenance, repair or remanu-
facture.

corroded parts, and for tight joints or turned pins. REPORT
The chains are considered worn when it has reached 3% wear
elongation.
In drives with large sprockets ( more than 66 teeth), allowable wear
is limited to 200/N less 3%.
And, in fixed-center, non-adjustable drives, allowable wear may be
limited to as little as one-half of one chain pitch wear elongation.
