 1 General Information
1.1 Welcome

Thank you for choosing the U100 CDMA2000 1x USB NIC(Network Interface Card). To guarantee
your card always in its best condition, please read this manual carefully.

1.2 Safety precautions

- Some electronic devices are susceptible to electromagnetic interference sent by NIC if inadequately
shielded, Try to use the terminal at least 20 cm away from TV sets, radio and other automated office
equipment so as to avoid electromagnetic interference.
- Operating of NIC may interfere with medical devices like hearing aides and pacemakers. Consult a
physician or the manufacturer of the medical device before using the NIC.
- Be aware of the usage limitation when using NIC at places such as oil warehouses or chemical
factories, where there are explosive gases or explosive products being processed.
- Do not touch the antenna while calling.
- Please put the NIC on the safe place. The NIC may cause injury if used as a toy by children.
- Do not put other things on the NIC to avoid overlaying radiator.
- Please use original accessories or accessories that are authorized by LINKTOP. Using any
unauthorized accessories may affect your NIC’s performance, hurt your terminal or even cause
danger to your body and violate related national regulations about telecom terminals.
- Do not expose your NIC to direct sunlight or store it in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the
life of electronic devices.
- Prevent liquid from leaking into your NIC.
- Do not attempt to dismantle the NIC by yourself. Non-expert handling of the devices may damage
them.

1.3 Cleaning and maintenance

- The NIC is not water-resistant, so do not use it in high humidity places such as the bathroom.
- If you want to clean your NIC, please use clean fabric that is a bit wet or anti-static. Take off your NIC
from PC before you clean it.
- Do not use chemical cleaning solvents or strong detergents to clean your NIC, such as alcohol, dilution
agent and benzene.

- Use the NIC within a temperature range of -10 C~55 C and a humidity range of 25%~85%.
- Do not use your terminal during thunderstorm.
- Do not take out your UIM card if there is no necessary. The damaged or lost of UIM card may cause
difficulty in maintenance of the NIC.

Indicator turns light when the NIC starts working.

2.4 Interface and Installation

2.4.1 Interface description

2.4.2 Installation
1. Insert audio cable into audio socket
2. If connection requires a R-UIM, insert R-UIM into card socket. Read the direction logo before pushing
the card.
3. Insert NIC into PC USB interface.
4. Wait till the power indicator turns on, run the installation -- Setup.exe to install drivers and client
application

2.5 About R-UIM Card

2.5.1 R-UIM card

Please insert a valid R-UIM (Removable User Identity Module) card into the NIC before usage.
Please do not touch the metal surface of the UIM card, or information in the card may be lost or damaged.
Keep the card away from electricity and magnetism.
Warning: Please power off NIC before removing the R-UIM card. Inserting or removing the R-UIM card is
forbidden when connected with the Laptop or PC.

2.5.2 Usage of R-UIM Card

- Power off NIC(remove it from PC).
- Push the R-UIM card into the R-UIM socket. Make sure that the beveled corner matches with the
R-UIM socket. Close the R-UIM card gate back to lock the R-UIM card.
Note: If you cannot use NIC normally after you insert the R-UIM card, please check whether the R-UIM
card is inserted correctly or the R-UIM card is valid (please consult with the network carrier). Do not
power on/off NIC continuously for 3 times, otherwise the R-UIM card may be injured.
 3 Basic Operations

Run the client application software Modem.exe after the NIC’s power led turns on.

3.1 Access Internet

Click button ‘Modem’ to open the modem control page. (Figure 3)

3.1.1 Settings

Click button ‘Setting’ to open the setup page. (Figure 4)

The default username is ‘card’, default password is ‘card’ and default dialing number is ‘#777’.

Change these figures only under instruction from your ISP. Do not forget to click button ‘Save’ to save
your new settings if you have changed something.

3.1.2 Dial

Click button ‘Dial’ to access the Internet.

The ‘Status Report’ window logs all operating information. If your NIC cannot access Internet, these logs
will help to diagnose. (Figure 5)

When the NIC access Internet successfully, the client software will start reporting Time Duration, Speed,
Send Bytes and Received Bytes. (Figure 6)

3.2 Voice call

Click button ‘Call’ to open call service page. (Figure 7)

3.2.1 Dial a call

Click on the numeric keypad to enter a dialing number.

Dialing service supports smart dial service. Smart dial is a more easy and more comfortable way to
retrieve a phone number from Phonebook. When the digits that you dialed are more than 3 digits, the
‘Smart Dial’ will list out all stored phone numbers which match the dialed digits, with the name of the
number. Then you can select a number by double-click on the name. (Figure 8)

Click button ‘Call’ to dial after you have entered a phone number.

Or click button ‘ReCall’ to dial the last call that you have made.

3.2.2 Receive a call

When a call incomes, button ‘Call’ will change to ‘Answer’.

Click ‘Answer’ to receive the call, or click ‘Hangup’ to reject the call.

The caller ID with phone number and caller name will be shown.

3.2.3 During a call

3.2.3.1 Earphone Volume

Click button ‘Volume’ to open earphone volume control page. (Figure 9)

The NIC supports 4-level volume and mute. Move the cursor to increase or decrease the volume. Then
click the red cross to close the page.

3.2.3.2 DTMF tone

You can send DTMF tone to network during a call by click the buttons ‘1’~’9’, ‘*’ and ‘#’.

3.2.4 Call history

In the call history page, you can read and operate on the Dialed, Received and Missed call records.

Right click on the record, which you want to operate on, to open the submenu. (Figure 10)

3.3 Short Message Service

Click button ‘SMS’ to open message service page. (Figure 11)

3.3.1 Send SMS

This service supports multi-sending and smart dial. (Figure 12)

Enter the phone number in the ‘Number’ edit box and press Enter (on your PC keypad) to add it into the
number list. Enter your text in the ‘Message’ edit box, it supports maximum 160 ASCII characters.

Click button ‘Send’ to start sending. Or click ‘Save’ to save the text in Outbox without sending.

3.3.2 Receive SMS

When you receive an SMS, a new message icon will show in the icon line. And it will switch to
‘Inbox’ page automatically. (Figure 13)

Double click on the Unread SMS to read it. Or you can right click on the SMS to open it by submenu.

3.3.3 Message box

Message box includes Inbox, Outbox, Sentbox and Template. Every box supports a submenu to operate
on them, right click to open the submenu.

Template box stores 10 template messages. You can edit or append them to your message.

3.4 Phone book

Click button ‘Phonebook’ to open phonebook page.

The phone book supports three groups, ‘Family’, ’Friend’ and ‘Office’. And it supports a right-click opened
submenu to operate on the phone numbers. (Figure 15)

Note: Multiple selection for multiple sending SMS. Click on the checkboxes of the phone numbers that
you need to select them. Then right click to open the submenu and click on ‘Send Message’. It will switch
to SMS page and add all numbers in the list.

4 Troubleshooting
Fault Solution

Driver Installation fails a. Make sure your target disk partition has at
lease 50MB free space

b. Shut down all other software before installing

Power Led always off a. Make sure the NIC is inserted to PC properly

b. Remove the NIC and insert it again

Client application cannot communicate with NIC a. Insert the NIC to PC, wait until the power led
turns on, then run the application

b. Make sure the PIN lock of the R-UIM is off

Accessing Internet fails a. Make sure your R-UIM has applied Internet
service

b. Make sure your R-UIM is not overdue

c. Make sure the ISP in your region has opened

CDMA 1X service

d. Confirm your settings from ISP
