Results

This chapter presents the results of the study.

Table 3 shows the performance of grade seven (7) students of

Caloocan High School in pretest of basic topics in Mathematics. It reveals

that no students got a score of twenty nine (29) and above. Only thirty

two percent (32%) of the respondents have average mastery in basic

topics in Mathematics. It means forty four (44) out of one hundred thirty

six (136) students have scores in the range of twenty two (22) to twenty

eight (28). While thirty eight percent (38%), fifty two (52) students, are

in the range of fifteen (15) to twenty one (21), have low mastery. There

are thirty five (35) students got scores in the range of eight (8) to
fourteen (14). This is twenty six (26%) of the respondents who have

very low mastery. And, there are five (5) students, that is four percent

(4%) of the respondents, whose scores are in the range of zero (0) to

seven (7). They have absolutely no mastery in basic topics in

Mathematics.

Table 4 reveals the performance of the respondents involving

the mean of their scores in pretest. With one hundred thirty six (136)

respondents, the summation of their scores is two thousand four

hundred eighty (2 480). The mean of the scores is 18.24 which means

that the respondents have low mastery in basic topics in Mathematics

before the One-Month Back to Basic Program.

The percentage of mastery of the respondents in operations on

whole number in pretest is cited in table 7. It shows that the students

have average mastery in all learning competencies involving operations

on whole numbers. They have sixty percent (60%) mastery in adding

whole numbers and fifty eight percent (58%) mastery in multiplying

whole numbers. They have same percentage of mastery in two

operations on whole numbers, subtraction and division, in which they

got both fifty four percent (54%) mastery. While they got the lowest

percentage in solving problems that is forty six percent (46%).

The overall percentage of mastery of the students in operations

on whole numbers in pretest is fifty five percent (55%) which reveals

that they have average mastery in this basic topic.

Table 8 shows the percentage of mastery of the students in

operations on fractions in pretest. Students have low mastery in all the

learning competencies involving the operations on fractions. They got

twenty one percent (21%) in addition of fractions, twenty three percent

(23%) in subtraction of fractions, both twenty four percent (24%) in

division of fractions and problem solving, and thirty four percent (34%)

in multiplication of fractions.
The overall percentage of mastery of the students in operations

on fractions in pretest is twenty four percent (24%) which reveals that

they have low mastery in this basic topic.

The percentage of mastery of the respondents in operations on

decimal in pretest is being shown in table 9. It is cited that students

have average mastery in performing addition of decimals with thirty nine

percent (39%) of mastery. The respondents got low mastery in

subtraction of decimals with twenty eight percent (28%) mastery,


multiplication of decimals with twenty three percent (23%) mastery,

solving word problem involving decimals with twenty one percent (21%)

mastery, and the lowest percentage of mastery is division of decimals

with only sixteen percent (16%).

The overall percentage of mastery of the students in operations

on decimals in pretest is twenty eight percent (28%) which reveals that

they have low mastery in this basic topic.

Table 10 reveals the summary of the percentage of mastery of

the students in basic topics in Mathematics in pretest. It is stated that

students have average mastery in operations on whole numbers with

fifty five percent (55%) mastery. Students have low mastery in two

basic topics which are operations on fractions with twenty four percent

(24%) mastery and operations on decimals with twenty eight percent

(28%) mastery.
The overall percentage of mastery of the students in basic
topics in Mathematics in pretest is thirty six percent (36%). It means
that they have average mastery.
