High blood pressure is often called "silent disease" because patients usually
do not know that their body has high blood pressure; there may be no visible
symptoms or signs, so regular blood pressure monitoring is essential. The diagnosis is
made with a sphygnomanometer.
The national consensus has recommended that digital blood pressure gauges be more
accurate than manual tools (by trained medical personnel). Why? Digital tools have
the ability to measure diastole more certain than manual tools.
The following are the trigger factors that are thought to affect the increased
risk of hypertension.
1. Being over 65 years old.
2. Eat lots of salt.
3. Being overweight.
4. Have a family with hypertension.
5. Lack of eating fruits and vegetables.
6. Rarely exercise.
7. Drinking too much coffee (or other drinks containing caffeine).
8. Too much alcohol
If your blood pressure is high, monitor it closely until it goes down and can be
controlled properly. Doctors usually suggest changes in lifestyle that are included in
the treatment for hypertension as well as prevention.
These steps can be implemented through:
1. Eat healthy foods.
2. Reduce consumption of salt and caffeine.
3. Stop smoking.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Lose weight, if needed.
6. Reduce alcohol consumption.
