Distributive Property
Dear Families,
Associative Property of Multiplication
My name is Mrs. Murdock and I am the MSU intern
Skip counting
placed in your childs classroom this year. I have had the

honor to have met most of you at conferences or around

the school. I have very much enjoyed getting to know
your students and look forward to helping them grow as
learners. After fall break I will be lead teaching math and
literacy with Mrs. Zemans help. I wanted to send out a Our Learning
little bit of information about what I will be working on with
your little mathematicians! After fall break we will begin chapter
4 which is all about how to multiply
with the factors 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
Sample and 10.
I am going to emphasize during this
chapter that all of the whole number

Our Learning
multiplication facts are conceptually
related. So if you know that 5X5 is
25, you can more easily find the
answer to 5X6. 5X5 is 25, 6 is one
more than 5, so 5X6 is 25 plus one
more 5 = 30!
You can expect your child to bring
home homework that provides
practice with multiplication facts and
strategies.

Try at Home
Using the sample problem above, have your child draw more
groups of 3 for 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 cookies. Then have your child
answer questions such as How many raisins would be on 8
cookies? What do you multiply to find out?
