Animal welfare and rights in Australia

Australia is the smallest continent in the world and the sixth largest country too.
Its economy considers as one of the world's booming economies.Australia has
varied climate and large pastures areas with available water sources,that what
have made it known for its large animal wealth, with a large livestock breeding,
ranking second in the world after China in terms of abundance of cattle.

As we know Australia is a federal country wich means most of the regulations

developed generally by the state and territory level; There is little national
animal welfare legislation in Australia; most animal welfare regulations are at the
state and territory level1 .

Now all of the six states wich make up Australia prohibit human actions that may
lead to unnecessary harm for animals, in addition, create a duty of taking care on
the animal by their owners.

According to World Animal Protection Australia got in 2014 a C out of possible

grades A to G on their index 2. The index includes recognition of animal sentience
and the importance of animal protection, prohibition of cruelty and protection for
different categories of animals...etc

In contrast Each year, 520-620 million animals are killed in

Australian slaughterhouses1 in addition Australia is one of the world's most
efficient producers of cattle and was the world's largest exporter of beef.3 And that
which explains comparatively the increase in animal product consumption per
capit, because according to Wikipedia the australian consumer is world's highest
per-capita consumer of land-animal meat at 90.21 kilograms per person(2014).

Finally, I think no one in Australia will be happy when he watches this numbers
and statistics, but the positive thing is they maybe causes a real people reaction, if
they contact with their politicians who can, in turn, affect on legislation and
animal protection, More people also will choose vegan products instead of animal
products when they are seeing and reminding animal suffering.
