On the issue of same-sex marriage, my stand is on the negative.

US-based Pew Research Center noted that the number of government which consider granting legal
recognition to same-sex marriage are growing. Around two dozen countries, mostly in Europe and the
Americas, already allow same-sex marriage. However, as of date, a marriage or union between two
Filipino citizens of the same sex is not legally recognized in the Philippines.

Support for marriage equality in the Philippines is a minority perspective. A survey on same-sex
marriage conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) in February 2014 showed that only 23% of
Filipinos support legal recognition for consensual same-sex relationships.

On the basis of some latest surveys, the so-called super majority of Filipinos are yet to support a union
which deviates from our normal, strict, and close perception of marriage.

More than the religious aspect, it is our laws that is our basis why we are anti-same sex marraige.

Article 1 of the Executive Order No. 209, otherwise known as The Family Code of the Philippines, which
governs the law on marriage provides that:

Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in
accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family and
an inviolable social institution whose nature, consequences, and incidents are governed by law.

The law is clear, marriage is a contract between a MAN and a WOMAN, implying that marriage is of a
heterosexual relationship.

The law further provides under Article 2 that No marriage shall be valid, unless the essential requisite,
among others, requires Legal capacity of the contracting parties who must be a male and a female;

The law is once again clear, that there cant be no valid marriage unless the contracting party is a MAN
and a WOMAN.

What must be the reason of this essential requirement of our law?

It is pro-creation.

Marriage is not only for companionship, just like what pro same-sex marriage says. The primary purpose
of marriage is to pro-create. By pro-creation, a man needs a woman, and a man needs a man.

Without procreation, it is inimical to the society, and detrimental to the existence of mankind.
