1.0 SCOPE
This document covers the procedures to clean with Pig after pressure test of the
Nitrogen/oxygen pipelines. To expel alien substance such as welding draft, rust,
sand, gravel, etc. after completing new pipelines.
20 SAFETY
For oxygen pipeline, it is extremely important to remove such contaminants as
rust, oily compound, organics and whatever materials could become source of
ignition under gaseous oxygen so at utmost precaution shall be taken for safety.
To meet such special customer request a method has developed called *Pig
Cleaning’. Pig cleaning is especially useful for internal cleaning of a long distance
pipe, including underground pipes which cannot install a vent or drain to eliminate
welding bead, or to guarantee industries, "Pig cleaning" is a must.
3.0 POLLY-PIG
It is made of elastic high density polyurethane and is surrounded with a durable
materials “elastomer”. It is also wound with a spiral or a cross shaped belt
4.0 PREPARATION
After completion of Pneumatic Test of Pipeline all drain and vent valves shall be
checked for operation ability and blow the gas through drains and vents to remove
the residual & dust.
5.0 CLEANING SEQUENCE
(1) After pressure test of pipeline and subsequent draining of test fluid, the
pipe shall be cleaned with pig as per the procedure given below. Inline
valves if any shall be replaced with spool pipe piece before hand.
(2) Pipeline portion shall be cleaned once with elastic Pig expelled by dry
gaseous nitrogen to remove any moisture.
(3) Pipeline portion shall be cleaned three times with double sponge Pig
expelled by dry gaseous nitrogen to remove the trace of moisture if the
line is hydro tested,
(4) Pipeline portion shall be dried by Ar blowing ifthe line is hydro tested,
Air blowing operation should not be carried out in rainy weather. Day time
operation is recommendable because of a lower humidity in atmosphere.
Air blowing may be required to continue until degrees of moisture.
(5) _ Pipeline portion shall be cleaned once with an elastic pig for checking
Presence moisture.

(6) Pipeline portion shall be cleaned three times with wire brush pig, Brush
pigging will be continued if the pig brings out any solid bodies or particles,
or excessive dust.
(7) Pipeline portion shall be cleaned with new elastic pig for checking the
Cleantiness. Cleaning will be continued till satisfactory internal cleanness
Of Pipeline and approval by GAS inspection team.

f. One shot of elastic pig
(8) The pipeline shall be sealed by nitrogen at the pressure of 0.1 kg/em2g,
The pressure shall be checked periodically to ensure the nitrogen
pressure has not been lost,
WORK STEPS OF EACH PIG CLEANING
‘Only one pig or a pair of pigs is to be introduced into the pipeline at anyone time.
(1) Line check of the
(2) Launcher set up.
(3) Catcher set up.
(4) Checking backpressure.
(5) Set up of the pig in the launcher.
(8) Checking the connections around the launcher and the catcher.
(7) Launching of the pig.
(8) Confirmation of discharge of the pig.
(8) Checking the pig and visual inspection of pipe inside.

EXPELLING GAS
Nitrogen or Air
Quality: Dry and Oilfree
Required flow rate: 10 Nm/min. max.
Normal operating press: 0.8 - 1.5 kg/em2g
Max. Operating press: 7.0 kglcm2g
Notes
1. Dryness of Air
Page 3 of 4Leer NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL GASES co. (Gas) _ Si $ABIC
Relative humidity below 30% is construed as dry air. If any desiccators
are used, outlet air shall be checked for its dryness by means of
psychomotor every 10 minutes.
2 Oifree
If an oil lubricated air compressor is used, then an activated carbon or
alumina absorber, followed by a filter shall be used. The absorber and
filter shall be inspected regularly to ensure that they have not become
saturated with oil
