Dubai is located on a sheltered harbor/cr eek and has been one of the principal
ports on the Persian Gulf region since the 1870's. Dubais econom y f lourished
f rom pearls and inter national sea trade. W hen oil was discovered in 1966,
Sheikh Rashid utilized the revenues f rom the oil to spur inf rastructure
development in Dubai. The largest man- made harbor in the world was
constructed at Jebel Ali, and a f ree zone was created. Dubais econom y is
highly diversif ied, with oil taking a back seat to the construction and tourism
industr y as well as tr ade and manuf acturing. Attractions include a f uturistic
skyline with remarkable architecture f eaturing the tallest building in the wor ld,
the Burj Khalif a (829.8m 2,722 f t).W orld-class tennis tournaments, PGA Golf
tours, regattas, horse races, desert rallies and one of the worlds largest air
shows attract millions of visitors to the city each year. Dubai has become the
wealthiest internat ional cit y in the middle east, with only one quarter of the
populat ion consist ing of native Emir atis.
AIRPORT INFORMATION
Dubai International Airport was est ablished in 1959 and has been on a steady
expansion course ever since. The f irst phase of the Airport s expansion plan
was completed in the year 2000 with the Sheikh Rashid Terminal. The unique
structure consists of shimmering blue-green glass and alum inum panels and
measures 800 meter s in length and stand s f ive stor ies high. The 2nd phase of
expansion began in early 2002 and was completed in 2008. The passenger
terminal is made up of Terminal 3 located under the aircr af t ramp areas and 2
stretched sat ellites ( Concourses 2 and 3). Both Concourses are similar in
architecture to the original Sheikh Rashid Terminal. In September 2012, the
Concourses have been renamed to make it easier f or passengers to navigate
though the air port. Concourse 1 became Concourse C. Concourse 2 become
Concourse B and Concourse 3 become Concourse A.
As of October 2012, Dubai Airport ranks 11th wor ldwide by passenger traff ic
and 8th by cargo traff ic. Dubai is the hub f or Emirates, the lar gest airline in the
Middle East, operat ing over 2500 f lights per week to 122 dest inat ions across 74
countries. Emir ates f leet consists of mostly wide body aircraf t and includes 26 x
A330- 200, 6x A340-300, 78x Boeing 777-300ER, 12x Boeing 777-300 as well as
26x A380-800.

SCENERY COVERAGE
FlyTampa- Dubai comes with a extended Photo-Scener y that covers most of the
cit y of Dubai. Many of Dubais f amous highrises and other landmarks have been
modelled. Note that some areas of Dubai are under heavy construction. In such
areas, not all buildings are up to date. The map below is showing the rough
coverage area. Cust om 3D buildings have been placed in the darker area only.
The f urther you move away f rom this dar ker area, the sparser the Scener y will
become.

QUESTIONS AND ANWERS
Some small seams can appear in the airport ground textur es. This can be
minim ized by t weaking the Texture Filter ing settings (Anisotr opic-Filter ing)
in FSX's display Sett ings and the graphics card drivers.
The def ault vehicles were excluded because they can't be made aware of
surrounding buildings, result ing in possible vehicles half way inside building
walls, collisions with our jetways and custom apron clutter.
Please see the Recommendations sect ion f urther ahead in this document.

QUESTIONS AND ANWERS
Papi and runway lights are not bright enough or too bright and runway
lights do not come on during daytime/fog.
Dubai uses our own custom runway Lighting system. W e created new Halo
textur es f or Lights which look somewhat dif f erent f rom the def ault FSX
light ing. Note this custom Lighting is not aff ected by global Halo
replacement texutres from Addon such as REX and others. Unf ortunately
this cust om light ing method will not detect f og situations dur ing dayt ime.
The hold-marking in this scener y have been placed at their real- world
positions, which in some instances can be too f ar f rom the runway f or the
FS engine to process. The solut ion is to taxi closer to the runway unt il
clearance can be obt ained.

RECOMMENDATIONS
FSX Graphics Display Settings should be within the green marked areas. Red
may result in either poor visual qualit y or poor perf ormance.
Air line Traff ic has most impact on perf ormance at Dubai. Depending on the
Time of Day, there can be over 100 Aircr af t on the apron, which can
dramatically decrease perf ormance.
W ater Eff ects at Max 2.X can also result in a considerable perf ormance hit
and trigger a Bug wit hin FSX wher e Special Ef f ects such as Sand Dust, Strobes
and Floodlights stay active af ter changing to a Time when such eff ects should
be hidden.
EMB Ser ies HDR Bloom Plugin will improve the lighting in Flight Simulat or
without much impact on perf ormance. W e highly recommend t his instead of
using the "Bloom" setting in FSX.

RECOMMENDATIONS
FS W ater Conf igurator (FSW C) is a f ree tool that lets you cust omize the FSX
water without impact ing perf ormance.
