Turbine Size Growth
Today the largest offshore wind turbine is 8 megawatts (MW), and even larger machines are
expected in the near future.
This enlargement in the size of the machines adds other challenges to the offshore installations.
Weight creates a demand for bigger lifting capacities
The increasing hub heights require taller booms for the onboard cranes.
The increased volume of the turbine components occupies more space on the installation vessel

Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV)
The main types of vessels utilized for installation of wind turbines are as follows:
Jack-Up Rigs with Crane
Heavy Lift Crane Barges
Shear Leg Crane Barges
WTIV with Crane
Vessel with Skidding System

Heavy Lift Crane Floater Shear Leg Crane Barge Vessel with Skidding System

Among the 4 types mentioned, the best solution is WTIV and Heavy Lift Crane Barges.
