ABSTRACT

MARAASIN, KEN LADAO. College of Agriculture, Department of Animal

Science, Mindanao State University, Marawi City. April 2017. Anthelmintic Efficacy

of the Different Levels of Powdered Papaya Seeds (Carica papaya) to Native Chickens

(Gallus gallus domesticus).

ADVISER: Dr. Claire B. Salvedia

The study was conducted to determine the efficacy of powdered papaya seeds as

a dewormer to native chickens. Following the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) a

total of 26 free-ranged native chicken were randomly distributed into four (4)

treatments, namely; T1-control (untreated) T2- 2ml of powdered papaya seeds;T3-4ml of

powdered papaya seeds, T4-6ml of powdered papaya seeds. Anthelmintic treatments

were administered orally using syringe every 4:00 in the afternoon within three (3)

consecutive collection of fecal samples for three (3) days. The same procedure was

repeated after 10 days.

All the data were processed and analysed using SPSS version 20. Result

revealed a highly significant (P0.05) differences on the number of parasites expelled

from the different treatments with three identified helminth species such as Asacaridia

gallinarum, Heterakis gallinae, and Capillaria Spp. Based on the environmental result

of the experiment, it was concluded that among the treatments,6ml of powdered papaya

seeds had the highest anthelmintic efficacy with regards to reduction of fecal egg

counts expelled from the experimental birds.
