Question 1- Differentiate Real time systems and Distributed systems.

DEFINITION
Systems that must produce the output within specified limits of time after obtaining the requisite
input are referred to as real time system.
Where as a System whose components are not all localized at one place is called a distributed
system
SPECIFICATION
Real time systems include all those systems that have a very small response time.
Whereas Distributed systems include localization in terms of physically separated at different
geographical locations.
USED IN
Real time systems are used in large organizations.
Whereas distributed systems are used in middle organizations.
TURN-AROUND TIME
The turn- around time of real time system is very rigid.
Whereas turn-around time of distributed system is not rigid.
COMPONENTS

DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM

EXAMPLE
Aircraft autopilot system is a good example of a real time system. The autopilot must respond to
an emergency immediately, failing which disastrous consequences are inevitable.
Whereas The internet is a very good example of a distributed system. A web page may be located
at a logical site called www.abc.com physically hosted on a server possibly at another site.
FUNCTION
In real time system, the time interval required to process and respond to inputs is so small that it
controls the environment. Real time processing is always online whereas online system needs not
to be real time.
Whereas distributed system uses multiple processors to serve multiple real time application and
multiple users. Data processing jobs are distributed among the processors accordingly to which
one can perform each job most efficiently.
