Attempt all the three questions

Question One
As a Technical Expert in wastewater treatment, using a flow diagram draw a sketch of a Wastewater
Treatment Plant of your choice state and describe all the treatment processes and units involved, (not less
than 20 processes and/or units, clearly emphasizing why you must have that process and/or unit), several
assumptions will be make, briefly state your assumptions (not less than 20 assumptions). Finally, give the
conditions that are supposed to be achieved before discharging the effluent into the environment (40
marks)

Question Two
The UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) developed 15 years ago (2000), now expired (2015)
was replaced by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the next 15 years (2030). The former
(MDGs) had eight Goals and of interest, Goal 7 called for Environmental Sustainability, however, while
some of the MDGs were achieved, it was generally a failure and as such was replaced by the SDGs with
17 goals. Of interest, Goal 11 of the SDGs calls for Access to safe water and sanitation and sound
management of freshwater ecosystems are essential to human health and to environmental sustainability
and economic prosperity. As an Environmental Waste Management Expert,

a) How can the coverage of waste management be increased? (20 marks)

b) What is the guarantee that this goals will be achieved by 2030? In other word, what should be done
differently in our Ugandan context to ensure that this goal succeeds? (20 marks)

Question Three
Environmental (Ecosystem) Sustainability how can this be achieved amidst a drive for social economic
developments and achievements that are surpassing the carry capacity of the environment, subsequently
resulting into massive waste generation and eventually environmental degradation. (20 marks)
