1. Read 190 to 204 in your BAYBs.
2. As you do so, keep a double-entry journal (like a t-chart). On the left side
summarize important ideas from Thoreau. On the right side, discuss what
you think they mean or why they might be important.
3. You need at least ten entries that span the beginning to the end of the of the
reading.

Monday: Annotate Trump Speech looking for use of ethos, pathos, or logos.

Thursday: AOW 6; Two Trump Paragraphs w/one paraphrase and one quote each.
Follow the CLEAR structure, and use varied templates to introduce any quotes or
paraphrases. Cite each piece of evidence in MLA. Have, as well, at least one
conjunctive adverb underlined. Refer to any glittering generalities or loaded words
if relevant.
Friday: Write down an answer to these questions:
Who is most persuasive
Why they're more persuasive
New evidence proving that they're more persuasive
Why the other person is less persuasive

Homework: 9/25-9/29
Monday: One paragraph analysis: which group had the most persuasive argument?
What did they use that persuaded you? Given all of that, what type of persuasion
seems to be most effective: ethos, pathos, or logos?
Tuesday/Wednesday: Write out two quotes from Equiano. Each quote must be
introduced with a different template from page 12 of your BAP. Each quote must
have a MLA citation at the end of it. Then, after each quote, write an explanation of
what type of persuasion is being used and why.
Thursday: AOW 5/1-Pager
Friday: Two paragraphs in the CLEAR format. Have two introduced quotes with
MLA citations with each. Vary your templates. Each paragraph is to examine how
Equiano uses ethos, pathos, or logos, so each claim should be about that. One
underlined conjunctive adverb needs to be in one of the paragraphs.

Homework: 9/18-9/22
Monday: Half page persuasion write: you must convince either your English class or
your English teacher of something. Your persuasion process must include all three
forms of persuasion. The homework must include the following: your argument, an
analysis of how it contains ethos, pathos, and logos, and at least a half page of
writing.
Tuesday/Wednesday: AOW 4 (its due a day early this week!)
Thursday: read your personal book. 1-pager due a week and a day from today.
Friday: read your personal book. 1-pager due a week from today.

Homework: 9/11-9/15
Monday: Read page 8 in your BAP. Then read the news and find one written
example of ethos, pathos, or logos. Write down what the example is and why it is an
example of ethos, pathos, or logos.
Tuesday/Wednesday: Find one example with your friends, of someone in public, a
teacher, or even with your family, of ethos, pathos, or logos being used (or some
combination). Write down what was said, written, or done, what type or types of
persuasion it is an example of, and why it is an example of type or those types of
persuasion.
Thursday: AOW 3
Friday: Read Equiano, 50-59. Create a KWLI chart and fill it in as you do so.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Choose one of the following categories and write a one-
paragraph argument supporting one side of one category.:
Category 1: humans should work as often as possible in order to avoid being lazy or
getting in trouble vs. we should only work when it is needed.
Category 2: earth, nature, and all of its members, including humans, are equally
important and interdependent vs. humans are the owners of earth and nature,
including animals, is composed of things to be used.
Thursday: AOW 2
Friday: Read Sinners in The Hands of An Angry God, 44-49. Answer questions 5-7

Homework: 8/28-9/1
Monday: Two paragraphs: paragraph 1summarize the views of time and nature
for the Europeans and the Native Americans. Paragraph 2argue as to which side
has the correct view.
Tuesday/Wednesday: Read 20-26 in literature book. Answer qs 1-4 for Sun Still
Rises, 1-4 for Sky Tree, 1-2 for Earth Only, and 1-4 for Coyote Finishes
Thursday: AOW 1
Friday: Read literature book, 1-19. Take a full page of detailed notes.

Homework: 8/21-8/25
Monday: Three ring binder w/three dividers. Marginalia on What Driving While
Texting Tells Us
Tuesday/Wednesday: One paragraph self-analysis: what are my strengths and
weaknesses as a student, and what can I do to grow over the next two years?
Thursday: Marginalia: Thrown Among Strangers

Homework: 8/17-8/18
Thursday: Final film due Wednesday (also the last day to turn in late work)
Friday: Two paragraphs (six sentences each): Summarize what Douglas Barton
argues about how top students act differently and whether intelligence matters.
Then, write about how you could apply these actions to your own life going forward.
Note: Summer Assignment Due Friday the 25th
