Josh Foley
Josh Foley, (B. 1983) holds a
Bachelor of Contemporary
Art (Hons) from the
University of Tasmania.
He has exhibited extensively
throughout Australia and
has received a number of
prestigious awards, grants
and residencies. His work
is held in many public
and private collections
throughout Australia,
notably in the collection of
the Queen Victoria Museum
& Art Gallery.
In 2011 Josh won The John
Glover Prize which is the
richest landscape prize in

Since 2011, Emma has been
exploring concrete as a
material in jewellery. She
enjoys distorting perception

scale, down to a scale that

as a piece of jewellery.

Hanna mixes the age-old
tradition of wet felting with
a modern twist. Capturing
natures textures and
patterns using natural

Tasmania. She completed

Arts from the Emily Carr
University in Vancouver
in 2011 and her Master of
Philosophy in Ceramics
Mae Finlayson -
textile, ceramics
Mae Finlayson is a
practicing artist living in
Launceston, Tasmania. Her
individual work explores
the handmade and familiar,
while her collaborative work
creates audience-activated
artworks. She trained
from the Australia National
University, Canberra in 2016.
My work investigates the
combination of practical and
abstract forms in ceramic,
still-life groupings. I am
curious about the way we
interpret objects and how oral
and written language informs
our understanding.

Samantha Dennis -
jewellery, sculpture
Samantha Dennis is a young
and emerging artist based
in Launceston, Tasmania,
where she crafts a range
of jewellery, wheel thrown
ceramics and elaborate
sculpture works. Her studio
practice ranges from private
commissions through to
commercial production, by

In 2015 she completed BFA
Honours at the Tasmanian

KATE PIEKUTOWSKI
Kate Piekutowski is an
Australian/Polish artist who
predominantly works within
the area of printmaking.
Born in Hobart, Tasmania,
Piekutowski nished her
Bachelor of Fine Arts in
2011 from the University of
Tasmania and later completed
her Masters of Fine Arts
(June 2013).
Through the medium of
etching, she explores the
concept of cultural identity.
Her works reect on a
disconnection with her
Polish heritage and ancestors

as well as discusses the
history of Europe and its
folkloric background. Being
a rst-generation child of
migrants, she is intrigued
by the concept of belonging.
Piekutowski intends to trigger
within the prints senses
of nostalgia and memories
of a homeland as well as
depicting her own personal
naivety of a romanticized
world.

RFDS Tasmania Dental Program
Dental service delivery
by the RFDS received a
significant boost when the
Commonwealth announced
funding to expand service
provision for communities
of disadvantage across the
nation.
People living and working in
rural and remote areas are
disproportionately affected
by problems associated with
poor oral health largely
because they have poorer
access to services while
studies have shown the
direct correlation between
oral health and avoidable
illness.
The RFDS is increasing
services to tackle the
disparity that exists
between urban and remote
communities. Poor oral
health is the leading cause
of potentially preventable
hospitalisations in Tasmania.
52% of Tasmanian children
aged 5 6 years of age
and 53% of 12-year-olds
experience dental decay.
The RFDS has purchased two
dental vans at $25,000 per
vehicle and fully equipped
them with $50,000 worth of
dental equipment including
handpieces, scaler and
suction unit, autoclave,
ultrasonic and dental chair
to service remote areas of
Tasmania. Unfortunately
capital item purchases
are not covered via
Commonwealth program.
Here in Tasmania, the newly
established RFDS Mobile
Dental Care service offers
preventative screenings,
oral health promotion
and treatment by a team
comprising a dental therapist,
dental assistant and two
contracted dentists. The
outreach program is offered
3-6 November
in a flexible service structure
and delivered in rural and
remote communities.
The North-West Coast of
Tasmania is the first region
to receive the much-needed
outreach service. The RFDS
dental team has set up a
mobile clinic in classrooms
to conduct treatments
including fissure sealants,
fluoride varnish applications,
oral hygiene promotion and
fillings.
RFDS has also setup a fixed
dental clinic at Circular
Head Aboriginal Corp office
2017
in Smithton, complete with
chair, portable equipment
and sterilisation facilities,
to treat local Tasmanian
Aboriginals and community
members in a culturally
aware environment.
RFDS also collaborates
with Oral Health Services
Tasmania and the Australian
Dental Association and with
local health and community
programs to ensure all
children under the age of 18
and adults holding a health
care card are eligible to be
treated.

TCF Quilt Challenge

This year we will have a
double event showcasing
the talents of Tasmanian
quilters.
There is the 2017 TCF
Textile Challenge where
the quilter has been
required to use material
provided by XLN Fabrics.
The nalists in the
Challenge will be displayed
at Venue 4, with the
winners announced on the
Saturday night.
Previous Challenges have
illustrated the talent we have
in Tasmania.
This year we are
introducing an exhibition
of quilts at the same venue
by well-known quilters
Sue Domeney, Jess Dobson,
Jess Frost and Cindy
Watkins, which promises to
be a highlight of the TCF.

Titiled Transformation this
quilt is by Deloraine textile
artist Cindy Watkins. This
quilt is a completely original
design composed primarily
of freestyle embroidery and
applique.

This took well over
150 hours and approximately
3500 meters of thread.

Sixty years ago the Rotary
Club of Deloraine was

WOAD and Sheepdog Trials
Sheep Dog Trials
The Deloraine Working
Sheepdog Club will conduct
a 3 day trial on the 4th,
5th & 6th November in
conjunction with the Craft
Fair. It will be run on the
Deloraine Showground (at
Venue 7) and all spectators
are most welcome.
The event consists of every
competitor given 3 fresh
sheep to be worked around
a set course with their dog
within a fifteen minute time
period. This time honoured
spectacle has changed very
little in the last 100 years
throughout Australia. The
art of sheepdog trialling
is becoming increasingly
attractive to more women
with over a third of the
competitors now being
female. It is one of the few
competitive events that men
and women can compete
on an equal footing. It
represents a combination
of dog training and
stockmanship.
The Trophy for the Open
Event is the Malcolm and
Joe Taylor Perpetual, and
honours this local couple
who have trialled across
Australia very successfully
over the last decade. We
would anticipate 15 to 20
handlers and approximately
60 80 dogs will compete
over the 3 days.

Artisans Angkor
The TCF is proud to announced
that it will be bringing artists
craftspeople from Artisans
Angkor in Cambodia.
Artisans Angkor is a semi-
public and social Cambodian
company that was originally
created to help young rural
people find work near their
home village. As the offshoot
of an educational project called
Chantiers-Ecoles de Formation
Professionnelle, aiming at
providing professional skills
to communities with little
schooling, Artisans Angkor
has maintained its actions in
education by developing its
own training program in the
handicraft sector.
Since its creation in 1998,
Artisans Angkor has striven
to offer fair salaries, safe
working conditions and
numerous social advantages
to its employees. It has now
opened 48 workshops in the
Siem Reap province and it
provides employment to over
1100 people, including more
than 800 artisans.
Over the years, Artisans

real showcase of Khmer
workmanship for its silk fabrics

Estelle has enjoyed bringing together creative souls,
teaching craft to primary and secondary school
students. For 15 years Estelle hosted week long master
classes with tutors from Australia, USA, Germany, U.K.
and the Netherlands at her studio in the N.T.
WAYNE Z HUDSON
Estelle continues to create, explore new techniques &
materials and enjoy viewing the work of artists in
I was born in Burnie, Tasmania . I completed an
apprenticeship in upholstery and later studied
all media.
Fine Arts at the School of Art, Hobart, University of
Tasmania, where I completed my PhD degree in 2000.
(Furniture Design) I travelled to Europe and America Judge
for six months supported by Australian Council for the
Arts, I studied various courses in America, including
blacksmithing. I undertook two, 3-month internships at
Albert Paleys Studios, Rochester, New York and a six-
month artist in residency program in Auckland, New
Zealand. In 2000 I was awarded the Cite d Arts in Paris
for a 3-month residency, supported by the Australian
Council of the Arts. From 2002 2012 I was Head of the
Sculpture Studio, University of Tasmania, Launceston.
My work focuses on the space between Functionality
(Seating) and Sculpture. My interest lies in the BARB HARVEY BIO
