DISCUSSION

Packaging is an object used for containers or packaged places and can provide protection in
accordance with the purpose. The presence of packaging that can help prevent or reduce damage,
protect the material that is in it from pollution and physical disorders such as impact friction, and
vibration. In terms of promotional packaging serves as a stimulator or attraction buyers. Packaging
should also be easy for consumers to use the product. Common packaging materials for packaging
agricultural products include wood, paper, plastic, metal, and cardboard (Nurmina 2002).

Packaging by layer is divided into three, namely primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
Primary packaging is the main container that directly contact with food or product. Secondary
packaging is the packaging that protects the primary packaging and does not direct contact with the
product. Tertiary packaging is usually used as distribution and transportation packaging. Primary
packaging must be non-toxic and inert so there is no chemical reaction that can cause discoloration
and taste. Primary packaging has certain conditions that depend on food to be packaged such as
protect food from contamination, protect water and fat consciousness, prevent odors and gases,
protect food from sunlight, withstand pressure, or collision (Suyitno 1990) .

The packaged product is a chocolate biscuit that ideally has a crispy texture. Usually
chocolate coating biscuits will stick on the packaging so it takes a safe primary packaging for direct
contact with the product. Chocolate biscuits have the properties of solid, easy to bind water, easy to
bind to the air resulting in products not crunchy and damaged when contaminated with microbes.
To pack the chocolate biscuit products used primary packaging in the form of aluminum foil which
direct contact with the product and the secondary packaging of paper paper board. Aluminum foil
has high storage properties, strong and not easily torn, resistant to heating process, resistant to
penetration of fat, oil or other food types, resistant to UV rays. Aluminum foil also helps the product
to maintain its purity, cleanliness, taste and freshness. Paper board paper as a secondary packaging
has the function of protecting the product and primary packaging from impact and keep the
packaging shape to stay solid. Paper board is strong, thick, resistant to friction and stiff.

To coat paper board used plastic type PE (Polyethylene) to be resistant to water and
microbes. Judging from the nature of products and packaging materials aluminum foil, paperboard
and plastic packaging is in accordance with the function of packaging.

The advantages of the secondary packaging made is its unique shape serves to attract the
attention of consumers, easy to carry, and add product selling value. Secondary packaging has seven
slots as a place of biscuits and the existence of an open-locked system is useful for keeping the
packaging together so the product does not fall.

Tools and Materials

Tools used are cutter, ruler, pen, scissors, glue, and doubletip. The materials used are
paperboard, aluminum foil, and PE plastic.

Conclusion

Aluminium packaging as primiary packaging is in accordance with the packaged product because
chocolate biscuit products are easy to stick to aluminum. Secondary packaging serves to protect the
product and as a primary packaging container. PE plastic protects the paperboard from damage to
water and damage from air and unique secondary packaging resembling ketupat serves to increase
the selling value of the product and easy to bring.

Suggestion

product innovation should continue to be done to increase the selling value of the product one of
the weaknesses of this packaging is too big therefore must be tailored to the packaged product.
