This Service Bulletin applies to the Natural Gas fuelled Gensets indicated
in the table above - but does not include Low Btu/Biogas fuelled Gensets.
Warranty Impact
Selecting and using the correct grade of engine oil is critical for achieving engine
service life, engine reliability and performance.
The information contained within this Service Bulletin does not authorise TRP or
Campaign practices.
Document Overview
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to outline the correct oil specification and
maintenance of engine oil for Cummins HHP Lean Burn natural gas fuelled
engines; as well as to update and simplify Cummins ESB recommendations and
guidelines for the end user.
This Service Bulletin does not define an approval procedure for new oil selection;
for oil approval refer to Cummins Engineering Standard 14615. This Bulletin
assumes that the oil being used has already been approved by Cummins Inc.
This Service Bulletin does not aim to give advice on oil sampling and analysis
(refer to ESB Service Bulletin ESB-SPB 22.3) for causes of oil deterioration or
corrective action.
NOTE: Never use diesel engine oil in a natural gas engine SERIOUS
ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR!

The approved oils are (oils shown in blue are premium grade oils):
Cummins Inc. / ESB only approve the use of high quality SAE15W40 (multi-
grade) engine oils. The oil requirements for the QSK19G are as follows:
Cummins Inc. bases its oil drain specifications on duty cycle and oil
contamination. This contamination occurs in all engines at varying rates
regardless of design.
Maintaining the correct oil and filter change interval is a vital factor in preserving
the integrity of an engine. Filters must be changed when the oil is changed.
Cummins Inc. strongly recommends regular oil sampling and analysis. Refer to
the latest revision of ESB Service Bulletin ESB-SPB 22. If regular oil analysis is
not performed, then the oil change interval is reduced and oil analysis must be
carried out immediately prior to the oil change to determine that the oil
contamination was within acceptable limits at the time of the oil change.

NOTE: QSV Engine Platforms Only (all model variants): The maximum oil
change intervals when using Premium Grade / Long Change Interval Oils
(with oil analysis) can be extended in steps of 500 hours, where the oil
analysis results prove that the oil was still fit for continued use, i.e. the oil
sample analysis results have not reached the CAUTION limits for all oil
analysis criteria, as detailed in ESB Service Bulletin ESB-SPB 22.
NOTE: Please note that oil filter change intervals may be different to the oil
change intervals quoted above. Refer to the engine-specific Operation &
Maintenance manual for further guidance on oil filter change and engine oil
change specifications, intervals and procedures.
