Teaching
Experience

August 2016- ALPHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS- CORNERSTONE PREPRATORY ACADEMY San Jose, CA
current Kindergarten Teacher. I am a kindergarten teacher at a charter school in San Jose, CA. I oversee my classroom of 28
students. We are a school that emulates high expectations, while focusing on the joy factor in our students. I teach ELA,
math, social studies, science, and writing to my students. I also attend weekly professional development sessions at my
school site. In addition to professional development, I also have weekly check-ins and data meetings with my principal.
During my first year teaching kindergarten I was able to utilize my data skills by tracking letters/sounds, sight words,
and DRA. When it came to letters/sounds my class grew from 11% to 100% by the end of the year. Sight words went
from 69% to 91%. We did not do DRA at the beginning of the year, but instead did the first round in late January, then
completed the EOY DRA at the beginning of May. My students went from an average score of 2.82 in January to an
average score of 8.64. My placement school sets the goal of having all kindergarteners end the year at level 4. This
was a growth of 78%. I credit much of this growth to the implementation of student data folders. Students were able to
track their own success.
