TExES Competencies

Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for

communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.

I believe that a teacher has to understand that not all children are capable of

learning material in the same way. We have to make sure we meet the needs of all

students by teaching in all different ways. Whether it be auditorily, visually, or

kinetically. Teachers must provide an outstanding quality of lesson plans that can

meet all three different learning methods in order for each student to be successful

in their classroom.

Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages

students in the learning process.

A teacher cannot teach first graders in the same way a teacher would teach seniors

in high school. Therefore, a teacher must find appropriate ways of actively

engaging their students according to their age. An instructor must also get to

know their students to find what best intrigues them into learning. Whether that be

for younger children, singing an engaging song to start the lesson or for older

children, grouping them into groups for a science experiment that correlates with

lesson plans.

Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in

childrens education and knows how to interact and communicate effectively with

parents.

Teachers must find ways to actively involve family with their students education

every month. Some ways to actively involve family would be by providing a

monthly newsletter or by having parents join in on field trips and parties. A

teacher must also encourage parents to communicate with them by holding

student-teacher conferences in order in make sure students are being successful

with their education not only at school but at home. Also, answering any

questions or emails in an appropriate and timely manner.

Competency 012: The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively

interacting with other members of the professional community and participating in

various types of professional activities.

An instructor must be able to get along with all different personalities of

fellow co-workers. You cannot be afraid to ask questions in order to become a

better teacher or be ill towards constructive criticism. During themed weeks have

fun by participating with their co-workers in dressing up and know when to be

serious when it comes teacher evaluations or meeting with administration.

Competency 013: The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical requirements

for educators and is knowledgeable of the structure of education in Texas.

A teacher must be aware of all Texas Minimum Standards of child care service so

they are aware of what they are allowed to do and not do. When your students are

with you they are not only there to learn but you are there to provide them a safe

and confrontable environment. A instructor must also be aware of Texas

requirements not only for child care but for Texas education requirements so that

you are setting your students up not only to be successful the year they are with

you but the following year.
