Biblical Pronunciations

(Rev. 8-8-2011)

This list should have most Biblical proper names or uncommon Biblical words that
were in the former lectionary for Years A, B and C as well as any that are used in the
Revised Common Lectionary for Years A, B and C.

Like many English words, there are variants in the pronunciation of Biblical names and
other words, and different sources have differences in pronunciations. Some of the
sources below list different variants; others provide only one choice.

Finding a Word without Scrolling through the Entire List

To search the list in the PDF file, use CTRL-F (Control-F) for find. Then type the
name you want (or the first few letters of it) and then the Enter key. It will take you to
that word or letters. In the alternative, the first line of each section begins with three
identical letters followed by all the words that begin with that letter of the alphabet. As
an example, if you want a word beginning with P, type PPP and then the enter key.
That will take you to the beginning of the section with words beginning with P. Then
you can scroll down to the word you want.
