Component
Context Students will be able to identify what setting, character and key
events about a story. (beginning, middle, and end)
This will be the beginning of the lesson.
Students will be able to retell the main event of a story and
details about the main characters.

Kindergarten
Length 30-45 minutes daily
Relevant Standards K.6. Students analyze, make inferences and draw conclusions
about theme and genre in different cultural, historical, and
contemporary contexts and provide evidence from the text to
support their understanding

Learner Outcomes Students will be able to identify the elements of story such as
settings, character, main events
Students will be able to discuss the main idea and relate it to
personal experiences
Assessment Student will work on beginning middle and end worksheet.

Students will work on Main Character and setting worksheet.

Students will create and illustrate their own story and label the
element of story (Formative assessment)

Anticipatory Set Read The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs! by Jon Scieszka.
Discuss the elements of story characters, setting, beginning,
middle and end.
Teacher will say Has anyone heard the story of the 3 little
pigs?
Students will watch Parts of a Story Song video from YouTube.
Student may dance with the video.
Procedures Have students work on Bookabi on their tablets/ computers.
Have students create their own story.
During whole group have students share their stories and have
students name the elements of students story
Who were the characters in the story?
Why do you think the character did this in the story?
What happened at the Beginning, Middle and End of the story?
Closure Exit Ticket: Students will retell a part in the story and identify
what part of the story it is.
Modifications and/or Teacher will monitor students during class discussion and
Accommodations independent work.
Have sentence starters written on the board.
Give students plenty of examples to show how to create story.
Replay Parts of Story Song and demonstrate dance moves to help
remember parts of story.
