Movie Analysis

October Sky

I. Experimental Design
1. Statement of problem.

Inspired by the launch of Sputnik, Homer decided to make his own

rockets. He aims to answer the following in making of a rocket:
What is the correct solution for the chemicals in the rocket?
How will the rocket successfully fly?
How will math formulas help the rocket fly?

2. Hypothesis.

With the help of math and when the materials and chemicals are
correct, the rocket will successfully fly. In Homers hypothesis, using a
math formula, Homer predicted that the missing rocket landed about
6320 feet away from the launch pad.

3. Variables:

a. Independent Variable
Mass of rocket, weather condition, chemical mixtures,
construction of rocket

b. Dependent Variable
Flight of rocket

c. Constants
Nozzle, launch site
II. Moral and Ethical Emphasis Questions
1. What was the most important lesson that you have learned while
watching October Sky?

I learned from the movie that we should work hard to fulfill our
dreams and we should never give up even there is a hindrance in what
you want to do. Like Homer he did not surrender even his father didnt
support him at first.

2. Did all of the events portrayed in the filming true? Describe the scene
that you found especially accurate. Which sequence didnt seem to
match reality? Why?

I think all of the events or scene in the film is true because all of the
scene in the film is not impossible to happen in real life besides it is
based from a true story.

3. Imagine that, like Homer, you could correspond with any scientist living
today. Who would that person be? What questions would you ask him
or her?

I would choose Angel C. Alcala and I will ask him, if he is in the

situation of Homer would he still continue to make his dreams come
true even though there is a hindrance in his dreams.
