Shodhaganga and Its Top Ten Universities: A Brief Study

Abstract: Shodhaganaga is an important part of INFLIBNET centre, New Delhi. The UGC
through its Regulation-2009 mandates submission of electronic version of theses and
dissertations by the researchers in universities with an aim to facilitate open access to Indian
theses and dissertations to the academic community world-wide. The INFLIBNET Centre has
implemented the task of hosting, maintaining and making the digital repository called. It is
envisaged that the ShodhGanga. "Shodhganga accessible to all Colleges and universities and
also we will avoid the duplication of research work through the Shodhaganga. This article
deals with the Name, located states and year of establishment of Top ten universities in
Shodhaganaga, Top ten Universities of Shodhaganga and its e-theses Shodhagangas Top ten
Universities and their under departments

Introduction
In the largest net working world, INFLINET (Information and Library Net Work) very
important role in higher education of India. Inflibnet contains Shodhganga and also the higher
education system in India is one of the largest in the world consisting of more than 700
degree-awarding institutions and 35,539 colleges, 90% of the universities offer doctoral
programmes in various subjects. UGC (University Grant Commission is an apex part of Indian
Government. With reference to Shodhganga, so it is providing e-Theses and Dissertation on
various subject fields of higher education (under the universities and colleges of UGC). We can
get majority of e-Theses and Dissertations accessible in PDF format. Shodhganga would
overcome serious problem of duplication of research and poor quality resulting from the "poor
visibility" and the "unseen" factor in research output.
Shodhganga was set-up in January 2010 for submission of electronic version of theses
and dissertations by students and researcher in Indians all universities. As on 31st Jan 2015,
the repository hosts more than 30100 full-text theses from 196 universities and 186
universities have signed MoU with the INFLIBNET Centre on Shodhganga. Bellow figure shows
the top ten universities in home page of Shodaganga.

Data Analysis
After that following tables give the analytical information on Year wise submissions of
theses is shown in Chart. Name, located states and year of establishment of Top ten
universities in Shodhaganaga. Its top ten universities and their under departments and
available of e-theses in these universities.

Table-02 shows the Majority 18.94% percent of departments in Panjab University,

13.29% percent of departments in Karnataka University and Maharaja Sayajirao University
of Baroda, 11.83% percent of departments in Aligarh Muslim University and Maharshi
Dayanand University , 7.65% percent in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University
and Jawaharlal Nehru University, 6.92% percent in departments in Gauhati University ,

5.64% percent in Sri Krishnadevaraya University. Less percentage (2.91) departments in

Anna University.

Table-03 shows the Majority 14.93% percent of e-thesis in Panjab University, 14.84%
percent of e-theses in Aligarh Muslim University, 9.37% percent of resources available in
Karnataka University, 10.41% percent in Jawaharlal Nehru University, 9.13% percent in e-
theses availing in Gauhati University and Anna University, 8.77% percent in Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University 8.09% percent Maharaja Sayajirao University
of Baroda 8.09% percent of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda 7.67% percent of Sri
Krishnadevaraya University. Less percentage (7.62) e-theses available in Maharshi
Dayanand University.

Conclusion:
Shodhaganga is providing electronic based theses, dissertations and synopsis on
various subject fields of higher education and also we can get these resources in Open access
mode. It is called envisaged that the central repository of theses and dissertations.
Shodhganga is to avoid the duplication of research work in higher education of India. So, its
repositories are increasing day by day to support research and academic content of Indian
higher education. . But honesty of creation of original content is ultimately the responsibility
of the research scholar. Copying of intellectual property of original author is not fare and
advisable in research. Shodhganga consists top ten universities and their e-based theses and
dissertations and also it maintains the quality of its theses content and it is also important
that content created by the researcher should be verified before awarding the PhD.
Antiplagiarism tools made available to universities would play an important role in curbing the
plagiarism in universities.
