SHEAR REINFORCEMENT

If section is O.K. Only then Av is calculated. This condition is from an overall philosophical
standpoint to avoid shear - compression failure and to cover the effects of approximations
made in converting the structure into the approximated mathematical model. it is preferable to
provide vertical stirrups for shear rather than crank the flexural reinforcement since the latter
detail the resulatant vectorial outward force at the bend in the cranked reinforcement has the
tendancy to wedge-out the concrete lying within the bend.

Av = 0.5 (Vu - Vc) p/(fsy d)

Vc (Kg)= 10bd= 10*3000*1480/100 = 444000 kg

(b& d in cm) 4440000 N

Av = 0.5*(643.25*10000-4440000)*100/(415*1480) =
162.203 mm2
dia = 12 mm
Spacing= 1394.52 mm c/c
providing spacing= 150 mm c/c
Legs = 2
Reinfor prov = 1507.96 mm2

Step 3 Calculate Shear- friction reinfocement Avf

Avf = Vu/0.85 fsy u

= 643.25X 10000/( 0.85 x415x1.4)

= 13025.21 mm2

Step 4 Calculate direct-tension reinfocement

Hu = 26.25 ton<0.2Vu

0.2Vu = 0.2*643.25 128.650 t

so, Hu = MAX(26.25,0.2*643.25) = 128.65 t

At = Hu/0.85 fsy

= 128.65x10000 / (0.85x415 )

= 3647.06 mm2
Step 5 Calculate flexural-tension reinforcemet Af

Af = (Vu*a+Hu*(h-d')
0.85*fsy*d

= 643.25x1e4 x 1213+26.25x1e4 X(1900-1850)/(0.85 X415X1480)

= 14970.69 mm2

Step 6

Compute total primary tensile reinforcement:

As > (Af+At) provide largest reinforcement

> (2/3 Avf + At)
> (0.04fc/ fsy)bd'

(Af+At) = 18617.7
(2/3 Avf + At) = 12330.5 provide 18722.89 mm2
(0.04fc/ fsy)bd' = 18722.9
No of Layers = 2 No's
dia = 25 mm
nos of bars = 39
No's = 40 No's
Area = 19634.95 mm2
Reinfor provided = 19634.95 mm2
Percentage = 0.35 %
spacing = 157.89 mm c/c
providing @ 150 mm c/c

Step 7 Calculate total section area Ah of stirrups (closed ties) to be provided

horizontally. One below other , below and next to As:

Ah < 0.5 Af
Ah > 0.333 Avf provide larger of two, these stirrups shall be provided
below As and within a depth of 2/3d' below As

Ah <0.5 Af= 7485.34 mm2 provide 7485.34 mm2

Ah >0.333Avf = 4337.39 mm2

dia = 20 mm
Legs = 2
No's = 12
Reinfor provided = 7539.82 mm2

Horiz bars is to be provided at upto a distance of 2/3 d = 1.267 m from top

spacing = 110.61 mm c/c
