Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred at our school last night,
resulting in the arrest early this morning of a juvenile male.

At about 8:30 last night, a suspicious juvenile entered Syracuse High and
allegedly brandished a knife when approached by nighttime custodial staff.

At the time, a number of students were in the building taking part in extra-
curricular activities. Syracuse Police were quickly notified, placed the building in
lockdown and searched the premises. When police arrived, a fire had also been
started near a dumpster behind the school. Fire crews responded and put out the
fire immediately. No injuries were reported.

The juvenile, who left the building, was later located and arrested.

We appreciate the quick response, the investigative work and the continued
efforts by the Syracuse Police Department and those of our school staff to help
keep our school safe.
