Mr. Henry Argil, and Mr. Carlos Collentes are Executive Officers of the Peace and Order Committee of Barangay Poblacion, Makati City. They are the immediate people tasked in keeping the peace within their area of responsibility which is Barangay Poblacion. They are the officers who are likewise tasked to respond immediately when the occasion arises. For them, Law is something that is obligatory and mandatory in nature, with setting an order as its primary goal. It sets the standard of peace in which the immediate constituents are obliged to follow. According to them, it may or may not be morally right, but for them, as long as it is clearly promulgated for the common good, deliberated justly, and it adheres with the first laws laid down by God, such as the 10 commandments, then it is the law. The 10 commandments, laid down by God through Moses according to scriptures are the primary laws in which all succeeding man-made laws should adhere to, according to Mr. Argil and Mr. Collentes. They cited an example of a law which they think is not morally right and which does not adhere to such commandments which is the Reproductive health law. Abortion for them, is clearly not in line with what God, through our religious doctrines are teaching us. Given that we are a country who firmly believes in the Roman Catholic religion, the RH law is a law that is not in accordance with the laws laid down by God. But, there are provisions of the RH law that they believe is morally right, such as the provisions in relation with family and sex education. In conclusion, Mr. Argil and Collentes perception of law is somewhat analogous with what St. Thomas Aquinas has laid down in his writings. Law is an ordince of reason, promulgated by competent authority for the sake of common good They see law as something that is necessary for keeping peace and setting the standard of order in the society. They also see the importance of the overlap between the laws laid down by God through the scriptures and the laws promulgated by the authorities.
