Erratic Low Speeds on Treadmills with Power Boards

Model # PCTL 5359.0
Stock# 30888
COMPLAINT:
Customers and Health rider stores are reporting that some treadmills are experiencing
problems when running their treadmill at low speed. The speed may not run as slow as it is
set to run, or it may appear to be erratic.

CAUSE:
If the configuration resistor RPS1 on the MC-60 motor controller in these treadmills is not
clipped, the treadmill will experience problems when running at low speeds.

CORRECTION:
To correct this problem, RPS1 on the motor controller must be clipped. Use the following
procedure to configure the controller for proper operation.
1. Remove the safety key and unplug the treadmill.
2. Remove the motor hood.
3. Locate the MC-60 motor controller. Use the diagram to locate RPS1.
4. Using wire cutters clip the lead on one side of the resistor and bend the resistor away
from the circuit board.
5. Plug in the power cord.
6. Enter the consoles calibration mode by holding down the Stop and Speed s buttons
while inserting the safety key.

Release the buttons. NOTE: Some older consoles will use a different button combination to
enter calibration mode. Refer to the tech sheet on the treadmill or Icons Treadmill Technical
Manual to determine the proper buttons to press on these treadmills.

7. Press Stop once to move to level two of calibration mode.
8. Press and hold the Speed s button until the console displays an 85% PWM speed
control signal. The console will begin running at full speed.
9. If the treadmill is running within 0.2 MPH of its designed maximum speed, press Speed
and allow the treadmill to come to a complete stop on its own. Unplug the treadmill
and reattach the motor hood.
10. If the treadmill is running faster than its designed maximum speed, remove the safety
key and unplug the treadmill. Turn the MAX SPD potentiometer on the MC-60 motor
controller counter-clockwise slightly. Return to Step 5.
11. If the treadmill is running slower than its designed maximum speed, remove the safety
key and unplug the treadmill. Turn the MAX SPD potentiometer on the MC-60 motor
controller clockwise slightly. Return to Step 5.
