AIM OF THE RESERCH

This article aims to study about the opinion of the teachers regarding gifted students. The

researcher aims to answer those questions pertaining this matter: (1)What are difficulties that

gifted students experienced? (2)What are the features that distinguish gifted students then the

others? (3) What is the perspective of society towards gifted students? (4)What are the problems

that families of gifted students have? In this research, the researcher failed to look into the

opinion of the parent of the gifted student in which they are more in spending time together at

home than with their teacher. In other words, the parent knows their child behavior more than the

outsider. The researcher only considers the opinion of the teacher. They should consider the

opinion on both sides in order to have a deep understanding and obtaining information about the

gifted children. Although the researcher only considers the side of the teacher, it will give more

information on the education of the gifted student where the parent might not have that

information regarding the children education and behavior in the school setting.

METHOD

The researcher used qualitative method in order to get the information regarding the opinion of

the teacher towards gifted children. The strength of using this method is that the data is based on

the participants own categories of meaning, it is also useful for studying a limited number of

cases in depth and describing complex phenomena. The researcher also can conduct cross-case

comparisons and analysis as well as the researcher can study dynamic processes (i.e.,

documenting sequential patterns and change). The researcher also obtains the data that are

usually collected in naturalistic settings in qualitative research and it usually responsive to local
situations, conditions, and stakeholders needs. The critiques from this method is that the

researcher fails to make quantitative predictions in which the researcher might encounter

difficulty to test hypotheses and theories with large participant pools, it might result to lower

credibility with some administrators and commissioners of programs. The researcher generally

takes more time to collect the data when compared to quantitative research in turns they will face

time consuming problem and the results are more easily influenced by the researchers personal

biases. I think this study should be conducted using mixed method in order to get more sufficient

information and the result are more suitable to be generalized to the larger population. Mixed

methods are especially useful in understanding contradictions between quantitative results and

qualitative findings. It also give a voice to study participants and ensure that study findings are

grounded in participants experiences. Mixed methods have great flexibility and are adaptable to

many study designs, such as observational studies and randomized trials, to elucidate more

information than can be obtained in only quantitative research. It also be seen as a mirror in

which it portray the way individuals naturally collect information by integrating quantitative and

qualitative data. For example, sports stories frequently integrate quantitative data (scores or

number of errors) with qualitative data (descriptions and images of highlights) to provide a more

complete story than either method would alone. Although mixed method have an advantages but

it not escape from disadvantages. Given that each method must adhere to its own standards for

rigor, ensuring appropriate quality of each component of a mixed methods study can be difficult

(Wisdom, Cavaleri, Onwuegbuzie, et al., 2011).

SUBJECT GROUP

The researcher only administer this study to 10 teachers that working in Denizli Science and Art

Centre. The strength is that in deep study can be made because it needs the researcher to conduct

the study in natural setting. There also can been seen that the participant do not have equally

chance to be selected in the study. Although in deep study can be made but the result cant be

generalized to the larger population. When the result failed to be generalized, it is difficult to test

hypotheses and theories with large participant. Most of the results are more easily influenced by

the researchers personal biases because it based on the individual opinion rather than the whole

population.
