Big Idea/Unit Goals:


Can students distinguish food that is healthy and unhealthy?
Can students replace unhealthy foods with healthier options?
Do students know the benefits of drinking water?
How much water should they should be drinking based on their activity level?

Unit Summary:
In this unit, students will learn about the food pyramid and the befits of drinking water. The first
lesson and activity will allow students to determine what foods are healthy. The second lesson and
activity will allow students to replace unhealthy foods with healthier options. Learning to recognize
unhealthy foods and replacing them will allow students to live a healthier lifestyle

Assessment Plan:

Lesson 1:
Student Learning Objective: The instructor will provide information about eating right and being
active along with a brief history of the USA history on physical education.

Acceptable Evidence: The instructor will have students engage in a quick write about the
presentation.

Lesson Activities: The instructor will be presenting a slide show about eating right and being
active. Throughout the lesson, the instructor will ask students questions such as what is an example
of a healthy food choice> the instructor will also ask questions about the presentation itself to
ensure the engagement and focus of the students.
Lesson 2:
Student Learning Objectives: The goal for this lesson is for students to be aware of what they are
eating and making better choices.

Acceptable Evidence: Students should be able to identify the differences between a healthy mean
and an unhealthy meal.

Lesson Activities: The teacher will be giving students a webercise activity to complete. On this
worksheet, students have the opportunity to explore different websites and become more familiar
with the components that make up a healthy meal.
Lesson 3:
Student Learning Objectives: Students will be able to explain to their peers what a healthy meal
consists of and give examples of healthy meals that can eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Acceptable Evidence: Students will have been able to create a days worth of healthy meals by using
the food pyramid.

Lesson Activities: Students will not create a concept map. The concepts that make up the concept
maps are the areas of the food pyramid. Students will write the 5 food groups and write 4 meals or
snacks that fall under that category.
