Grading Policy:
Grades will be entered in a timely fashion following the submission of assignments.
Please allow more time for longer assignments, such as essays or projects, so that a fair
grade can be given. All grades will be displayed on Active Parent/Active Student so
that both parents and students can monitor performance.

Key:
NG No Grade; assignment was not handed in. NG = 0
Numeric Grade (0-100) actual score received.

Due Dates/Late Work Policy:

Due dates are announced in advance and students will have an opportunity to make
note of these on their calendars. In addition, announcements concerning assignment
due dates will be communicated to both students and parents using Remind. For these
reasons, due dates are absolute and late work will be penalized ten points for each day
late. Once there are no more points to deduct, the assignment will be marked as a zero.

Absences:
It is the students responsibility to gather and complete any work missed due to
absence.

Students who are absent on the day an assignment is due are expected to hand in the
assignment immediately upon returning to class. If the assignment is to be submitted
online, every effort should be made by the student to submit the assignment on time
from home, but the student may submit the assignment immediately upon returning
to school if this is not possible.

Daily work done and turned in during class on the day of the absence may be handed
in up to three days late without penalty.
Students who miss school due to excused school-related events, such as sports or other
types of competitions, will follow the same guidelines.

Assignment Types:
Daily Grades These assignments may be done in class or may be assigned as
homework. A complete and good-quality attempt contains neatly written or
typed complete sentences organized according to the provided directions.
Assignments not meeting these basic standards will not be marked until the
student properly revises the assignment. These grades account for 40% of a
students average.

Test Grades These assignments are used to assess a students understanding of

a concept after practicing it in class. Possible assignments in this category may
include pencil and paper tests, essays, or projects. A complete and good-quality
attempt contains neatly written or typed complete sentences organized
according to the provided directions. Assignments not meeting these basic
standards will not be marked and cannot be revised once they are handed in.
These assignments account for 60% of a students average.

Outside Reading Requirements:

Often, students will be asked to read portions of their assigned novels at home as a
homework assignment. When necessary, a copy will be provided to students either on
paper or electronically so that this may be accomplished.

In addition to assigned novels, students will be responsible for selecting and reading
novels throughout the year. These novels may be selected from the classroom library,
the school library, or brought from home.

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is defined as turning in someone elses work as your own. All submitted
work is checked against both the submissions of classmates and the Internet. If a
student commits plagiarism, whether the assignment is a daily grade or a test grade,
they will receive a grade of zero that cannot be made up or replaced. The students
parents will be notified of any cases of plagiarism, and the student may face
disciplinary actions through the administration.
